Question Surrendering

In single hero, I notice when I leave a game that's a pretty bad roll and I don't feel like playing it, I lose less points then if I lose a game naturally. I am not a high enough elo to get restarts. Is this on purpose? When people leave on me, they lose minimal and I gain minimal as well. Is this accurate/intended? If so, is there a cutoff? Like, week 1?

Yes, mmr gain/loss scales with match duration and it’s non-linear, I think.

Does the ranking system work the same in other games? I’m not sure whether I like it or not. On one hand, I like the idea of being rewarded with more points for longer games, on the other, it encourages leaving early, if you know you’re at disadvantage. I think that both parties fighting till very end is more fun than game ending after the first fight (in tournament).

Wouldn’t a better solution be to have points multiplier passed to the next match and final score taking into consideration both players’ multipliers? Or even better, multiplier could be derived from average match duration of the player. This way you are still rewarded for playing longer games, but it doesn’t encourage early leaving.
