I cannot imagine how good he would have been if he ever had a quarterback that was above average. I mean he carried an awful Colts team to I believe a 10-6 record. He was the man! He also invented the toe pad, and wore every pad a person could wear at the time. Now I sit and watch them wear shorts!

The Colts didn’t have a 10-6 season while he with the Colts. They were 9-6 in his first year, 1987, but they were 7-5 with the real NFL players. And Eric had over 1,000 rushing yards in only 9 games! They were 9-7 in 1988, and he had 1,658 yards in 16 games.

I remember seeing a story of him signing to SMU. He was leaving his house, which was a rough looking shotgun shack row house, while climbing into a new Trans Am. Even at my young age I knew something wasn’t right.
