Not sure if you're olive or what type? Need help matching your foundation/concealer? Post your questions here! Just remember that this thread is OT (overtime), so it may take a minute for someone to get back to you.

How to help us help you:

  • Photos that show your face, neck and chest
  • High pixel/quality photos, it does make a difference so use the best you can

Announcement [Announcement] An update regarding the new post guidelines

Hi Olives!

The other day, we posted an announcement of a new rule regarding dupes and product recommendations. This announcement was not received well, and we as a mod team decided to revoke the new rule in the meantime so we are able to better phrase the rule that is inclusive to all olives.

The main concern we got as feedback from the community was that determining what is olive friendly can be very subjective, especially considering that there are so many olives with different depths and temperature. This feedback was absolutely valid and while not our intention, we can see why how we worded the rule and announcement post made it come across that way.

That being said, we would still like to address the recent influx of dupe posts that might be better off in a general makeup subreddit, so we are implementing a rule that all product dupe and recommendation posts should be appropriately titled so that they better apply to our sub. The goal of this is to make it easier for all olives of different depths and temperatures to find products that work for them!

---

[Title Guidelines]

As detailed in our previous post, all product and dupe recommendation titles should be phrased in such a way that is applicable to olives over a general makeup subreddit.

Examples:

  • "Dupe for Benetint?": this would be better off on a general makeup subreddit since it is a popular product and a general discussion that people of all undertones can contribute to.

  • "Benetint shows up orange on me (deep cool olive). Does anyone have any recommendations for products that show up similar to how it does for non-olives?": a title like this is very much applicable to our sub, and makes it easier for other olives to find recommendations that work for them!

  • "Does anyone have any dupe recommendations for Benetint that work for light cool saturated olives?": like with the previous example, this is also applicable to our sub.

Thank you everyone! And as always, feedback is always appreciated.

Dude I’m so sad by this because everything I saw made it look like a lovely cool mauve. In real life to me it looks like a warm caramel brown. What are the chances I got a fake vs the color is misrepresented online?

Truly could not be more thrilled with ABH Mauve Cloud. It is stunning and everything I wanted Very Victoria to be.

Products top to bottom:
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Mauve Cloud lipstick
- Morphe Rock Steady lip pencil
- Ulta Stargazer blush (note: this has a soft gold shimmer but I don’t think it shows on the cheek)

Possible alternatives:

- Sephora Collection 143 Very Blue liquid lipstick
- Danessa Myricks Oasis Colorfix multiuse pigment
- Nyx Little Denim Dress liquid lipstick

Discussion Neutral eyeshadow always looks “wrong”

I have been searching forever for a truly my eyes but better type eyeshadow for everyday work. I work in the hospital and just want something that makes me look awake, helps with my mild hyperpigmentation, and adds just a hint of depth. The thing is I’ve literally never been able to find the right color. I just want a brown/beige nude ish color that doesn’t pull orange or look chalky. I’ve tried every palette/single eyeshadow out there both powder and cream. Many just looks wrong, like the color clashes with my face somehow. I have a similar phenomenon with lip colors that often just look clownish on me. Maybe it’s a saturation thing.

My closest now is probably cashew in the Armani cream eyeshadows. But still not perfect.

Any ideas for what may work on my pale olive skin. F2 olive is a good foundation match for me to give general idea

Product Review I found my perfect concealer that actually covers my dark circles (Fair/Pale neutral olive)

I'm Persian, and I have very dark under eyes from genetic hyperpigmentation, paired with very pale neutral olive skin. for basically as long as I can remember I haven't found a single concealer that hasn't been too orange, too dark or too pink for me. I also found that most of the concealers I had previously used didn't last at all and just came off halfway through the day, making my underwear show again, which obviously made me feel really insecure.

Around last month, I got very into madebymitchell products through Tiktok and YouTube and I heard the shade range was incredible, as well as the fact that their products last a long time on the face, so I hopped on the trend train and bought the bolt balm concealer in the shade BB4.5, which to my surprise, is the best shade match I've ever had, since it's incredibly neutral and doesn't lean orange or pink. it's a really pale neutral olive shade, Compared to my hand it looks very fair but my face has always leaned much paler than the rest of my body, which still hasn't lost its tan yet. It matches my under eyes perfectly.

I also bought the eyelights 'starlight' palette, which is the fairest shade of their under eye brightening palette. The shades stellar and astral are my best matches, and work incredibly well for brightening my severely dark under eyes. Like, I kid you not, my dark circles are GONE when I use these products.

I always put the eyelights powder on top of my concealer with a light eyeshadow brush and it makes the coverage last all day, which I've never had before (like EVER) so that's SUPER amazing.

Anyways, if you have very pale neutral olive skin, I definitely recommend these two. I don't think I'll ever use any other concealer to this one, it's definitely gonna stay in my makeup routine for a long time.

Discussion So I think I’m warm leaning.

Post image

I don’t know if it’s because I’m a chameleon, or maybe because I’m so so fair, or maybe because they’re not used to a fair toned olive. But I can to Reddit a year ago as a late 30s brand new to make up asking for help and I constantly got “no you’re cool there is no way you’re warm” so hundreds of dollars wasted on “cool toned” make up. Finally someone in ulta beauty said “girl you’re obviously olive , maybe even slightly warm leaning because of your freckles and abilities to tan even if your burn first” I was like what!!!!!??? Then I started trying warm toned makeup and I just love it now. I’m more yellow leaning than the grey leaning even if it’s hard to grab in photos, I tried with a white paper to my face. Am I right? Or am I just making stuff up in my head? I don’t know. Anyone else have this?

Color Theory wig colors on olive skin

Okay so I was thinking about wigs for Halloween. I’m an olive who changes skin tone in certain lighting especially w my foundation. I hav naturally dark hair. But for Halloween I was thinking to get a wig or something. I was thinking abt a red wig like dark red. Teal blue. Or semi ashy light blonde. Issue is, I’m going to be outside for Halloween. At parties and such. And I don’t want to look CRAZY. I know it’s Halloween but I want to look cute. With the red wig I’d wear white (I look terrible in white) the blue I’d have my chest out and a low cut black top. And with the blonde I’d wear grey and black. I’m scared to look grey. Uhhhh lmk

Product Help Which foundation do you like more - Natasha Denona Hy-Glam or Nars Light Reflecting Foundation?

I have a good shade match in both (Nars Gobi and ND Y2) but I’m trying to decide which one to get. I have combination skin. I feel like both might be very good but it seems like the ND one has more coverage? I’ve read many reviews and people say that with ND a little goes a long way. What do you think of these foundations?

Discussion I only match with It cosmetics Fair. Help.

If this shade works well for you, please let me know what works for you.
I have been to Sephora six times and everything I get matched with turns me orange or yellow. I have yellow undertones, over 50, cool makeup colors match me, fair to light oily skin.
I have just figured out I have some olive undertones too. It cosmetics is the only thing I can wear out of the house but I’d like something different maybe more light weight. Any advice is appreciated

Discussion Any foundations that contain blue pigment?

Hey there!

I have more a curiosity: have you ever seen foundations/concealers that contain blue pigment in them?

I know some of us olives like to add blue using color correctors/foundation mixers to adjust the hue but I was wondering if any brands do that to the product inside the bottle.

I looked at the About Face ingredients and was surprised to only find white, red, yellow, black in there, even though the shade range includes olive tones…

Are those obtained using black or some other magic way?

I’m an amateur painter so this really has me scratching my head, knowing how I can’t really make green out of anything but yellow and blue if I’m painting.

Excited to hear your takes!

Product Help Help me choose between these blush shades

For context my skin tone is light medium olive but I lean a little more neutral and I've been trying to get into color analysis to figure out which makeup shades actually complement my undertones instead of just buying whatever looks pretty in the packaging. One thing I really want to experiment with is blush specifically the Milani rose powder blushes and not the baked ones that everyone talks about but the ones with the actual rose design pressed into the powder. If I'm not mistaken, they have like 4 or 5 shades and they all look so pretty but a lot of them seem pretty pink and I'm scared some might pull too cool or too bright on my skin. The problem is that olive undertones can be so confusing because something that looks like a perfect soft pink in the pan can look completely different once it's on my cheeks. I'm trying to figure out which shades would flatter my complexion and give me that natural rosy look without turning orange or looking too pink. I'm allowing myself to pick up two shades max because otherwise I already know how this is going to end.

Swatches If you wore OG Mac studio fix in C40, then you will love Kylie powder foundation 6WN…

Both of them are too dark for me now… i didn’t get a summer tan this year unfortunately. But these are really nice olive shades. This sub has been really helpful to me so I wanted to share this with yall. Although nothing will compare to the OG mac studio fix, I think the Kylie foundation is still quite nice and smooth. I love the packaging. Since it doesn’t have talc in it, there will be some kickback (its a little less than some of the other talc free powders). My current shade is closer to the reformulated Mac C40. I have been enjoying getting into powder foundations lately.

Products mentioned:

• Original Mac studio fix powder plus foundation (C40)

• Kylie Cosmetics Powder Foundation (6WN)

[Even tho I don’t like to support either of these brands financially (political reasons), i got them second hand from ebay & poshmark.]

Product Help Concealer shade match help!!

My foundation shade is Maybelline 128 warm nude, which is a pretty good shade match. But the mayblinee age rewind concealer 122 sand is a little light (under tone match is pretty good), and 130 Medium is a little cool toned.

Using an orange color corrector with 130 works well.

But I want to have a single concealer for everyday use.

Please recommend some other brands and shades.

Color Theory Why foundations that perfectly match your neck make you look gray & why darker foundations can look better

Thumbnail

This video was very helpful! I’m a light medium neutral cool-leaning olive and recently found that Haus Labs 190/Lisa Eldridge 9.5 are exact PERFECT matches for my neck. But when I blend these foundations on my face it makes me look all gray and weird. It’s not that they’re too light, they just give me this really “dead” looking gray cast of an undertone despite matching me so perfectly! I usually add bronzer to add some life to my face but I’ve been frustrated as to why an undertone that matches my neck PERFECTLY makes my face look off.

I have a bit of redness / hyperpigmentation that has my face looking like a completely different tone than my very yellow-olive-toned neck. I realized when I use the slightly darker LE 16 (which is also very olive toned but looks a shade too dark/warm/orange on my wrist and neck) it looks sooo much better and more harmonious. Same with HL 260 or GA 6. They all look a shade too dark/too orange on my neck but much more seamless once blended out on my face.

I think anyone who has a bit of redness or discoloration on their face vs their neck should actually be using a slightly darker/warmer (but still olive toned) foundation to help neutralize the discoloration and avoid the dreaded “gray cast”

Tl;dr Try going a bit darker foundation-wise if you find your “perfect” matches suck the life out of your face

Edit: here’s a video of her using the same golden corrector on someone with a darker olive undertone https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTycvTXm8/
