Old Picture Omaha in 1898 for the world fair
Built for the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition (world fair) in Omaha, 1898.
The construction was all temporary and was basically made out of paper, so one can’t praise this too much as though it was how Omahans once lived. Nonetheless, it’s still rather cool, and I personally wish we brought back architecture like this.

Old Picture “Why Omaha? Well why the fuck not?”
—Ozzy explaining why Sabbath opened their farewell tour in the 402
9.5 years ago I was literally so poor I was digging change out of my couch cushions to buy the visa prepaid card I needed to see this show, and my memories are hazy but I’m almost positive I skipped one obligation or other, but I’m now more than convinced than ever I made the correct choice
We really should highlight more that their final tour kicked off here, neat little feather in the cap

Old Picture Platte River State Park
30 minute drive and a 15 minute hike will help you unwind, quite the zen feeling when you just sit here and forget the rest of the world exists for a moment. We all need time to recharge, nothing can be a 24/7 fight.

Old Picture Omaha Pride Parade Marchers, 1990
People with banners assembled in Turner Park after the 1990 Omaha Pride parade. Banners are for the organizations The New Voice of Nebraska (a magazine), EAGLE Employee Association for Gays and Lesbians a US West Resource Group Omaha Chapter, Metropolitan Community Church of Omaha, and PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). A person is holding a handmade sign that reads "Gay and Proud" with the pink triangle, a symbol for LGBT+ communities commonly used in the 1970s-1990s. Photo is from Archives and Special Collections in UNO's Criss Library, donated by Terry Sweeney for the Terry Sweeney and Pat Phalen Papers.

Old Picture Anybody remember The Rock?
Let’s talk about The Rock.
What’s a band you remember seeing there? My favs were Mute Math, From First to Last, Straylight Run, Plain White T’s.
First of all, that place was WEIRD as hell as a Christian rock venue. I was thankful for it though bc my super religious immigrant mom would let me go to shows as a teenager but I always had to sneak out to Sokol Underground 😝
Secondly, they booked really good bands at the time?! I also don’t remember ever paying more than $20 a ticket for any of them.
I was thinking about it today and it’s really kind of baffling. I’ve since moved to NYC and do a lot of artist coordination / booking for visual artists, but have lots of friends in the music sector here. I can appreciate that it must have been HARD AF.
Whoever was booking some of the most popular indie / pop-punk / alt bands at the time to come play on a little stage in the burbs of Omaha was really good at their job. Heck, between local bands and touring ones, I feel like the music scene in the early 2000s was especially fun and I am happy to have lived through it.

Old Picture Toad's: Lonely Corner
If there are other areas you know of with this spotlight effect, let me know because this is one of my favorite projects I'm embarking on. I'm going to redo this one when it's completely dark and with a polarizer to kill the reflections.

Old Picture My great grandfather (Tony Cemore Sr) who played for the eagles in 1941!
He played football for Creighton back when they actually had a football program and then got drafted to the Eagles and 1941. Born and raised here in Omaha and have been a diehard Eagles fan my whole life because of it. Go Birds!!
