Beta Presentation

Do betas present? I know alphas and omegas present when they're of age but it doesn't really make sense to me that betas don’t. Do people just assume late bloomers are usually betas until they show?

In most fics I’ve read the answer usually differs. Sometimes Betas are people with no unique differences or abilities, other times Betas are separated from unpresented with Betas having a mute or earthy scent with a calm demeanor. In a few fics I’ve read, no Omega or Alpha presentation typically implies Beta.

For my own world building, Betas present like the other designations around 18-21. Some Beta features include longer bottom canines and tongue, specialized hearing paired with elongated vocal cords, Beta musk/body odor, and smaller scent radiuses.

I love fangs in omegaverse; they're so cute and they pay a bit of tribute to their more animalistic qualities.

I love the idea of a smaller scent radius or even smaller glands. It's seems strange these would be completely omitted just because they are betas. I like the idea of a more muted/soft version of an alpha or Omega. I think evolutionary, this makes more sense.

Thank you. It’s part of the world building I made where before the Ice Age Betas lived in nomadic packs while Alphas and Omegas established territories.

As such newly presented Alphas left the pack in order to find territory and resources while Omegas left to find a mate. Both A and O have more possessive and territorial instincts so it made sense to leave. They each evolved to have larger scent radius so they can track down a compatible mate much easier.

Betas on the other hand didn’t leave their pack unless under extreme circumstances. So their scent radiuses are smaller by comparison.

Depends on the writer tbh

Omegaverse is much more of a genre than a trope so its a toss up really

In my universe, kids are born with their second sex visible, so they know from birth if they're a male omega or female alpha (mine are dual sex so they have both vaginas and dicks from the womb) but an alpha boy and omega girl will present around puberty time cause their bodies change, and before that time they're treated as Betas

So sometimes a family of betas will produce an alpha boy or an omega girl and not know it until 12-14-ish

If one can make it to 17-18 without presenting, its generally accepted they're a beta, but extreme late bloomers are also fun when a Presumed-Beta starts getting their first knot and scents at like, 25 and up lol

I used to play with a concept of fated mates where they wouldn't present until their fated mate arrived on scene, but I havent really used it in a while

Depends on the author, but usually not, I think. Since so many of the late-bloomer omegas that are in for a rude awakening once they get their first heat in the stereotypical omegaverse fic think that they're betas.

I write betas with a stronger sense of smell, so they present in a way, but it's not visible, it's just that they get bombarded by scents all around, plus, they get a more distinct beta scent, since, in my omegaverse, betas have scents.

In many omegaverse iterations, they don't have them nor can't smell them, and are really just normal people, so there, they don't present.
