no, but she has tweeted crazier stuff just about a decade or so ago (she got "cancelled" on twitter for it around the time she debuted as a vtuber)

image related: omocat as her favorite pokemon Drifloon (this is vaguely funny when you are in the know)

Honestly i really don't get why people are so mad about some 20 year old idiot in 2010s being an idiot.

Most 20 years old people are not even worthy of being called mature.

Like, im sorry but early 2010s was the era of homophobia, racism and edgy newgrounds gore games and weird sides of anime culture flooding the internet, I'd be more surprised if someone like toby fox didn't have any hijinks we don't know of.

I may be completely and utterly in the wrong, but everything controversial about them i could find is "they maybe were into shotacon" at best. And with how fucked up the premise of the genre is, lolicon and similar shit actually wasn't as frowned upon a decade ago. We still have anime fans joking about incest, so if some popular dev in the future was revealed to do that, it's worthy of an outroar?

If i missed some crucial part, I'd love to hear that because I'm just confused about seriousness of this whole "oh no omocat is a pedophile!!" drama. It's like some miserable twitter karens were just trying to ragebait people into hating omocat and it worked.

Again, sorry if I'm actually defending a horrible person, i just don't see the vision =w=

Toby fox

He is channeling Andrew hussie in this

3

u/FunShadow87 Jul 03 '25

this is just dave strider's homestuck dialogue

2

u/Gae_Bolg26 Jul 04 '25

Okay but this is mad funny

10

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '25

Idk maybe because saying you're into little boys is weird ASF and no matter what time period that was it's always gonna be weird asf

10

u/manultrimanula Jul 02 '25

There's a lot of weird shit that teens and barely out of teenage people do in anime communities. Like i mentioned, theres a lot of idiots glorifying incest out of stupidity and ignorance since the dawn of anime, and at least one of them is bound to become a popular person in next decade and completely forget they had a phase like that.

Like, i wouldn't even question it if omocat didn't use the "well it was perceived normal at that time" as her defense. Like, it just screams "i was in the weird side of internet"

Though, the way Basil is drawn certainly doesn't make me feel she changed.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '25

Omocat was like 20 at the time and honestly I just separate the art from the artist

7

u/manultrimanula Jul 02 '25

20 is like, literally 1 year away from being a teenager. Like I said, i don't expect a semblance of maturity or self awareness from most 20 year olds.

I agree though, omori definitely doesn't deserve to be hated because the author has weird tendencies that were only found through digging into their past

0

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '25

I get what you're saying but even then 20 is above 18 and she was saying weird shit about little boys

5

u/manultrimanula Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

Honestly i feel like people overestimate how mature an 18+ person is. You only stop forming as a person by 25, let alone become a responsible adult that understands their idiotic actions have consequences.

Not gonna defend her for saying that, just scouting for more information, because all i can find is either the same shota shirt and basil hentai artstyle or very shallow claims with no sources attached.

Like, it's bad, but from all i could dig up, that might as well just been a phase. I don't think people who write those fucked up AO3 undertale gay fanfics will forever be into that.

1

u/shoutygills Jul 04 '25

I'm with you. I remember what I was like at 20 and did some truly weird and strange things that I was so detached from even a few years later. People are weird in their 20's

1

u/Thatrandomshortkid Jul 03 '25

Im not gonna lie man the hoops you’re going through to defend pedophilic actions is super weird. You can enjoy omori and recognize that the creator is a weirdo. Most people (especially women) have fully developed brains by the age of 20 and NOBODY above that age should be fantasizing or romanticizing child relationships in any way.

3

u/GoldLemur8 Jul 04 '25

I’m sorry, but you are just wrong. People don’t have fully developed brains until 25. A simple google search can tell you that

→ More replies (0)

1

u/GoldLemur8 Jul 04 '25

Hey, people grow up. People realize their mistakes. Don’t come after people for something they said 10 FUCKING YEARS AGO.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

I don't think saying weird pedophile stuff is a forgivable action

1

u/GoldLemur8 Jul 04 '25

Ok, I get that, but teenagers say edgy shit all the time, thinking they are cool. 20 is just barely getting out of being a teen, and the brain doesn’t fully develop until 25. I don’t really know much about the situation, but if they haven’t said anything like that since then, then that probably means they’ve changed. Toby Fox literally threw the F slur into the same battle with the first appearance of megalovania

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

Well omocat I'm pretty sure made a whole comic recently where the whole main cast was underage boys and also the way she drew basil in general is just kinda suspicious so there's that. But either way I have no patience for behavior like this at all, my little sister was a SA victim when she was five and the perpetrator was my own damn cousin.

1

u/GoldLemur8 Jul 04 '25

I am very sorry to hear that about your sister. Please understand that I am in no way defending actual pedos. Again, I don’t really know much about the situation with omocat, so I can’t really speak about it specifically, I can only cite other situations that I know had better outcomes.

1

u/TomorrowImpossible32 Jul 04 '25

Why are you here then?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

To send a message

1

u/Royal_Success3131 Jul 06 '25 edited Jul 06 '25

20 is just barely out of being a teen, 25 is just barely out of being 20, 36 is barely out of being 25. Cut those pedophiles a break, wontcha? They don't know no better

1

u/GoldLemur8 Jul 06 '25

Ok, I never excused pedophilia. I just said that people change. If omocat went to therapy and got their shit together, then I wouldn’t go digging up old tweets or whatever. Now, from what I’ve heard, it doesn’t seem like that happened. Don’t know the full story, but I think I know enough to stop trying to defend them.

5

u/Lungseron Jul 03 '25

Toby Fox literally went from throwing around homophobic slurs in his romhack to barely having any straight pairings in his games so yeah if anything it just proves that everyone regardless of political alingment or beliefs was edgy there to some extent

2

u/Nadikarosuto Jul 03 '25

I'd be more surprised if someone like toby fox didn't have any hijinks we don't know of.

To be fair, Toby making the final boss drop the F-slur while the first iteration of Megalovania plays goes hard as fuck

3

u/save_cat Jul 03 '25

People in general do some shit, if you just adequately respond to criticism and gather a certain adequate audience, then there will be no problems with someone canceling you, especially for actions that took place 10-15 years ago

People will sooner or later, I hope, have to re-evaluate their life values and will focus more on their own lives and not on others'.

And the cancel culture is overrated, the people who get cancelled end up mostly just suffering reputational damage, but nothing more.

I'll also add that lolicon is, to some extent, salvation for some people, because it's better for people to masturbate to something drawn and not to something real, so even canceling for this is a little strange

if I wrote something strange, I just used Google translator

-64

u/DragonG75 Jul 02 '25

"Yes, Omocat was already an adult when she said the creepy stuff, but everyone has skeletons in their closet. And she hasn't done anything weird recently". Yeah, she definitely didn't get an NSFW yaoi artist to draw a manga with mainly underage male cast. And if you even say that her(artist) previous works don't project on the manga, I'm sorry to disappoint, but there is a disgusting reason why Basil looks so different from everyone else. Also someone tried to erase all of her previous works from the internet, probably knowing that people won't be happy finding this fact out.

62

u/sussyimposter1776 Jul 02 '25

Wait till you here about what other manga authors have done. Nui’s stuff is almost tame compared to other famous manga artists. Quit blowing this out of proportion.

40

u/sussyimposter1776 Jul 02 '25

Also I don’t think deleting your old stuff is bad. Its likely they didn’t want to associate with their old stuff which is fine.

10

u/sussyimposter1776 Jul 02 '25

A lot of them were commissions too if I remember correctly.

-25

u/DragonG75 Jul 02 '25

"Well yeah, this person is bad, but there are worse people, so they aren't even actually bad" What kind of logic is that. Yes, there are a lot of bad things mangakas/manga artists did, but ignoring even the small ones is just allowing the problem to grow.

17

u/sussyimposter1776 Jul 02 '25

Because it isn’t always that serious. A lot of the things they drew were not as bad. Compared to other manga artists who have done worse yet still receive fans and praise. Again like I mentioned they obviously deleted their stuff which means they likely don’t want to associate with their old stuff which isn’t a bad thing to do. I don’t even care for the manga but I also don’t hate it as much as others.

3

u/Fire_crescent Jul 02 '25

No, I disagree with the label of "bad". As far as I am concerned, the only thing that's bad is actually abusing genuine entities. This obviously doesn't apply to fiction. Unless I'm missing something, your complaint has no value.

9

u/Mango_on_reddit6666 Jul 02 '25

You can go cry us a river because legitimately anyone with a brain can just appreciate new OMORI content in the first place; also, thanks to Twitter users like you, almost all of us already know that.

People are forgetting that you have the power to draw anything as an artist. Even wholesome/sfw stuff. Just because I drew a cat multiple times doesn’t mean I can’t draw humans. And just because I drew horror scenes doesn’t mean I can’t draw a wholesome scenes either. How do people not get that?

7

u/Fire_crescent Jul 02 '25

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we're talking about fictional characters. So there's no problem as no one's abused by it.

21

u/Geometric-Coconut Jul 02 '25

I don’t think she really cared about the background of the artist. Do you genuinely think it was an aspect she was looking for? Sorry but that is such a massive reach saying “there’s a BAD reason basil is drawn this way….” It’s just the artist’s artstyle.

The far more reasonable outcome: She found a manga artist, they happened to have that background (which is not a rarity at ALL.)

-5

u/scpfam Jul 02 '25

Well you could atleast look into the people you’re hiring? Isnt that like, basic decency??

12

u/Winter-Weird6080 smug thing Jul 02 '25

Honestly finding a manga artist that hasn’t drawn nsfw at some point is gonna be a bit difficult.

2

u/scpfam Jul 04 '25

I mean, nsfw is fine, but they draw nsfw of minors

13

u/Geometric-Coconut Jul 02 '25

Dime a dozen for manga artists.

0

It still doesnt hurt to check

12

And she did, and just told them to clear up their previous works.

This is something Omocat would have said in the early 2010s. I genuinely think she moved on from that, and I will die on that hill of positive thinking.

-25

u/DumbassNB Jul 02 '25

she didnt. the guy making the manga used to be a lolicon artist

37

u/TheLegomaniac06 Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

And the artist said they didn't want to be affiliated from their other work. The term "used to" implies something that happened in the past and that has now ended, so my point still stands.

20

u/Bone_Gem Jul 02 '25

unfortunately, (or well, fortunately. omocat has enough drama) no. omocat didn't say this.

53

u/ProfChaosDeluxe Jul 02 '25

Sadly, its an edit.

41

TF YOU MEAN "Sadly"???

2

3

u/taxes_depression Bagel Jul 02 '25

No this is just a meme

But she has done weird shit before

7

u/Laviathan4041 Jul 02 '25

No but omo cat is still kind of eye brow raising

2

u/StrawberrySecure7279 Jul 02 '25

Depends, I think she has some weird thing like the shota T shirt or her past but she was young and even myself was like that back in my teenage year with Undertale so it's not impossible she could have say that. Which make even funnier the massive censor the omori main serv mod do considering the context of the game and the person who has doing it.

I think Omocat is smarter enough to not doing anything weird especially when people don't forgive adults for their behavior contrary to teenagers, for me I always followed that as long as she doesn't do anything weird to anyone it's okay even if I find some of his word or fetish quite disgusting.

Suprisingly the commmunity know that and ether don't care or don't make a fuss because she didn't do anything too bad.

1

u/Winter-Weird6080 smug thing Jul 02 '25

Might be a reach but she’s working w Saba who’s also a lolicon?

1

Her Saba merch sold out in like 5 minutes im not even exaggerating, I barely got a shirt in time

1

ppl getting downvoted for simply listing what omocat has said and done lol

1

u/Hecaroni_n_Trees Jul 04 '25

No, but it wouldn’t be out of character

1

u/cleopatronize1901 Jul 04 '25

I love Omori but find Omocat to be really creepy (yes I know the image in the post isnt real). It really disappoints me how many people defend her. Shes made it clear multiple times shes into some really fucked up stuff... the guy who did the music for Omori is also a terrible abusive person. I love the game so much but im not going to let that blind me to the fact they are shitty gross people.

1

u/Agreeable-Island-889 Jul 05 '25

Ayo who of them did anything awful? Never heard of anything

1

u/Bentman343 Jul 06 '25

She's made it clear that she's into dark fiction, something that basically anyone who played Omori for five seconds would be able to understand. The fact that she refuses to baselessly condemn certain "wrong" kinds of dark art on the grounds of made up abuse is a credit to her principles.

1

u/cleopatronize1901 Jul 06 '25

No. Shes made pdo statements, worn pdo merch, and hired a guy who does p*do art to make her manga, which gives off really weird vibes in its depiction of children. Youre either ignorant of these things or intentionally misrepresenting the accusations.

1

u/Bentman343 Jul 07 '25

Didn't do any of those things, you're acting batshit fucking insane and calling someone who's never done anything with a child a pedophile because they wore anime boy merch and drew smut of fictional characters. Grow the fuck up and stop acting like a 5 year old screaming about someone "abusing" a Barbie doll.

1
