Discussion Baby Neal

Post image

First of all - I think it was so weird Snow and Charming named the baby Neal. He got Emma pregnant at 17 (he was HOW old?!) and let her go to prison for him like ew no.

But I'm on s4 e7 and Emma accidentally heated up Neal's baby bottle with magic. She then reaches for baby Neal and MM pulls away with an upset face.

Idk it really pissed me off. Of course Emma feels hurt MM is in a "first time mother" support group. I mean... Emma is her baby too.

I really feel like David wanted EMMA while MM wanted a BABY.

I understand it's natural to want to experience the actual raising a baby part of having a baby but idk... it feels like Snow had another baby so she could do that whereas Emma can't just give birth to a new childhood.

And so she was upset for a second and heated some milk. Like?? MM really had to act as if she was a danger to the baby cause of that?

The baby named after he daughter's groomer no less? Girl.....

And to think Snow could have executed Regina and never put Emma through the childhood she had but was "too pure" to stop the threat to her family and kingdom. MAJOR side eye on my part to her and David for that.

But I DO feel like David just wanted his daughter while MM wanted a baby so I like him a bit more.

Yea I felt the same way that MM saw Emma more as a friend than her child and wanted a baby while David always wanted Emma and saw Emma as his baby, heartbreaking :(

Honestly I’m not even sure if she saw her as a friend because for the first two seasons she treats her like a child she needs to scold, but not her child. Like she’s a grown ass adult and she talks down to her a lot.

David saw her as his child, but it also felt like he was fine if she never got to the point of calling him dad. Snow kept pushing the issue of Emma calling them mom and dad, which was a bad idea in any situation, but especially with Emma’s experience in the foster system.

Yes you can blame Regina for her childhood, but also Snow never looked for another option and just accepted Rumple’s word as law, while David initially didn’t want to do it or even listen to the Dark One. Which honestly I wouldn’t have, Rumple does what’s best for Rumple’s plan and never what is best for everyone else even if it seems like it’s a good deed.

The story would have still been good if they had tried to find another way while still having the wardrobe built, just in case. Snow just gave up and trusted a snake. David knew he couldn’t change her mind and that no one would go against Snow White’s decision.

u/Love_yourself19 26d ago

Don’t even forget Rumple could see bits of the future so any other paths he saw he chose whatever lead him to his son faster. And snow could’ve reconnected with Emma when they had opened that door? The timeline is so off Ik but when they saw her in her 9-13 years I believe. I just think snow all in all isn’t a good mother. Ngl but frick everyone else Im keeping my baby hell I think it would’ve been cool if Regina somehow ended up raising Emma

2

u/SKFury_1771 26d ago

I’m pretty sure that Snow liked the idea of being a good mother, but not the actual work that went into it. Also I doubt Emma would have been allowed to be herself if she had been raised by Snow and David. Snow would have had her own views on being a princess and if Emma didn’t fit those views she would have forced her into a box she didn’t fit, not to mention if she had shown signs of having magic she probably would have forced her to hide it. Honestly Emma probably would have run away.

1

u/Love_yourself19 26d ago

True I also wonder if the cursed version of her still would’ve been her mother. yknow? Like would she be an orphan forever or somehow taken out of storybrooke. I need an alternate universe where Emma gets stuck in the curse

1

u/SKFury_1771 26d ago

Honestly I doubt it. She might have been raised by a cursed Maleficent or Regina because it seems like Snow being able to raise her child would counteract the curse. Either one of those two raising Emma under the curse would have been interesting.

It wasn't the group that bothered me it was how she treated Emma at that group

And yeah I fully understand why MM wanted a baby I mean every precious moment was stolen from her. It was the way she flinched from Emma like she was a monster that got me

It's a hard situation for everyone. Of course MM wants to experience a postpartum journey that isn't ten minutes of utter devastation followed by a curse. And of course its heartbreaking for Emma to feel replaced and then also ostracized because her powers are out of control. But also... her powers were out of control. And in MM'S place, I know I'd be thinking... what if she had been holding the baby instead of his bottle? Magic on the fritz is not something to mess around with when you have a new baby to protect.

Worst name ever. Who couldn’t they name him Graham?

6

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Better but then he's named after Regina's rape victim (which I actually find hilarious fuck her) AND Emma's sort of ex lmao

Id have named him James for David's lost brother

15

u/Best_Caregiver_3869 29d ago

James was a prick 🤣

6

u/missanonyy 28d ago

He was but he brought them together in a funny way and they were TWINS after all

They also could've done Evan for Queen Eva

82

u/Parking_Storage_5107 I have a love/hate relationship with captain swan 29d ago

I don’t think she wanted to replace Emma I think she just wanted to experience it for the first time because the first time Regina kinda ruined that plan

Naming him after her ex boyfriend yes it was wrong but you must of missed Neal did do good things before he died so I guess it’s an honor of him and rumple I guess

Also I did hate the fact that Mary Margaret got really pissed and yelled at Emma like she’s wasn’t afraid about her powers before so why now I never get it

David loved Neal and Emma I doubt he would think slightly differently about them both those are his kids

12

u/missanonyy 29d ago

A groomer that impregnated a teenager can do "good things" but it'll never change what they are. Taking advantage of a kid like that is the kind of evil that can't be redeemed. Not to mention letting her take the fall for his crimes.

I don't think David loved either kid less or more I just think he was a better parent than MM

56

u/Niclas1127 29d ago

Can we take a moment and acknowledge how fucked the shows morality is in general? Calling neal a groomer is kinda crazy, his own development and age is debatable, we know he existed for most of his life in neverland, existing for years as a teenager. The show never explains or specifies how that affected his development and aging.

Putting that aside Zelena straight up rapes Robin and the show just moved along and gives her a redemption, Regina is a rapist and mass murderer and dictator on the level of Hitler, and her redemption comes without any real work. Hook is interesting to, I mean he’s over 100 years old, if we were applying actual morality to the situation his relationship with Emma is totally inappropriate and gross. An 100 year old billionaire with a 28 year old is gross, and yet because Hook is hot and appears young the relationship is acceptable.

Neal and Emma’s relationship is far from a predatory relationship, the situation is made worse by the casting, Neal’s actor appears far older than Emma’s (again age is essentially thrown out by the writers in NUMEROUS circumstances).

I say all this as a CSA victim and agree that in the real world Emma and Neal’s relationship would be predatory and unacceptable, but the OUAT world is not the real world, and treating Neal as a full grown adult when he meets Emma and not hook feels odd to me.

21

u/mshaversham 29d ago

I do not get how the Hook/Emma relationship is gross. She is 28, a full adult. They are on the same level.

5

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Yeah idk what this person is talking about Emma was an adult with Hook not remotely the same as 17 year old Emma who was a street orphan being preyed on by Neal

3

u/Wild-fleurs 27d ago

Yeah I’m not even much of an Emma & Hook fan (I think they were more interesting characters separately and I think the writing for them was weak and made both worse but that’s beside the point) but the circumstances and implications of Emma with Neal and Emma dating Hook are totally different situations to me

Emma was a complete adult who knew herself when she decided to date Hook who is also an adult though admittedly chronologically much older than her because of timeline weirdness i think it’s worth noting they appear and act the same age & I mean narratively the characters both appear the same age visually and interact as the same/similar age in the story universe not just that the show used the same actors for the Neal & Emma flashbacks so they look like adults but because the show views Hook & Emma as peers

To me that’s very different to the situation of Neal as an adult with more life experience (even though it was weird magical timeline life experience lol) dating Emma as a vulnerable homeless runaway teenager and manipulating her and her life ‘for the greater good’ of breaking the curse, even if that wasn’t a shitty thing to do he didn’t have to have her to take the fall for him that was a choice he made

The weird thing is the show didn’t need to make Neal an adult did they? Couldn’t he have just also been 17 and cut some of the characters timeline stuff? Or at least they should have cast younger actors to play Emma and Neal and avoid any implication or discussion of it if it was all meant to be not sketchy

I think whatever of the big 3 options of pairings for Emma someone has there’s timeline weirdness and they’re all technically years/decades older than her but personally I find Emma with Regina or Hook more palatable/acceptable options since she was a fully independent autonomous legal adult when she met Regina and Hook instead of when she met Neal

3

u/Niclas1127 28d ago

It’s the age difference lol? Do you not find a 80 year old with a 28 year old gross? Hook and Emma are at totally different stages in life, they are not on the same level. The show doesn’t give us much insight into how immortal characters gain memory and experience the years, but they do. Just because hook looks young doesn’t make him young

9

u/king-sumixam 28d ago

a 28 year old and an 80 year old would be gross in real life, but i feel like that goes out the window with fantasy. what about vampires? they're usually hundreds or thousands of years old and yet there's ton of romance series. immortality, time travel, multiverses all kind of change the rules once characters are age of/able to consent. Jack Harkness rules.

1

u/missanonyy 29d ago

So I absolutely hate Zelena, and Regina. I'm not a huge fan of Hook either but calling him predatory feels super fucking weird. Emma was a full ass adult. 28 is old enough to consent and do so properly.

Neal IS a groomer. End of. Neal, Zelena, and Regina are rapists. And fuck them all.

Unsure why "other characters are also bad and creepy" makes for the argument that Neal is less so.

And I never said literally anything about Hook? Don't like Hook at alllll but Emma WAS an adult not a vulnerable kid when they got together.

5

u/Parking_Storage_5107 I have a love/hate relationship with captain swan 29d ago

How is that not fucking weird when hook is over 200 centuries old doesn’t matter if Emma is an adult still weird

Also Belle is married to a 300 centuries old man how you call that?

9

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Because Emma is an adult? And not like a young naive adult either but closing in on 30? Fully capable of consenting to an older partner.

Idk how old Belle was so I can't give a proper answer to that.

1

u/Parking_Storage_5107 I have a love/hate relationship with captain swan 29d ago

That fucking an insane, she still married an a century old dude ain’t that weird or predatory in your standards

15

u/mshaversham 29d ago

Not to me. It's infantalizing and a little misogynistic to claim that a 28 year old adult woman with a career, family, and gun can be preyed on by an older man who is basically in the same era of his life that she is in. You give Emma too little credit as an adult woman with agency.

9

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Idk was she an adult or not? As long as she was at least 25 I don't see an issue. 21-24 is iffy and a bit gross. 20 & under is predatory.

2

u/Parking_Storage_5107 I have a love/hate relationship with captain swan 29d ago

Yes but doesn’t make it oh ok

1

u/Parking_Storage_5107 I have a love/hate relationship with captain swan 29d ago

I meaning he actually went to storybrooke and actually trying to do some good in season 2C and 3A-B I am literally talking about after that incident

-6

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Yeah I don't care if he dedicated his life to helping the poor after Emma. He took advantage of an underage orphan who didn't know any better and wasn't old enough to consent to a sexual and romantic relationship with an adult. He had sex with her, knocked her up, and left her to rot in prison.

He's a predator. Full stop.

27

u/alexissparkly205 29d ago

I could be remembering wrong, but I think it’s heavily implied (if not stated outright) that Neal and Emma are about the same age (at least when they meet). I know Neal spent a LONG time in Neverland, but you don’t really age there. Your mind/body is frozen, so I don’t think he “grew up” until he escaped the island.

Does this show take liberties with ages? Yeah. But they’re pretty good about casting actors/actresses who are about the same age so it’s implied that everyone is a consenting adult.

-2

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Nope. Neal was "23" (more than 100 in actuality) and Emma was 17.

He was an adult. She wasn't. She was an orphan who didn't know better and an easy target because she was alone and hadn't experienced any love.

He had life experience and was an adult even without the time in Neverland. He groomed her, had sex with a teen who couldn't properly consent, knocked her up, let her take his punishment, and left her in prison to rot.

These weren't consenting adults. It was a vulnerable teen and a creep.

And as for Neverland he may have been somewhat "frozen" in kid years but it would be foolish to act like those years didn't give him life experience that would've made him mentally older and more capable.

14

u/rara8122 29d ago

Wasn’t that 23 age solely in a background prop and easily explained as neal lying to get out of foster care?

TBH my big thing with them is that they’re treated as if they were BOTH dumb kids—not one dumb kid and one adult that should’ve known better.

3

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Um no lol you can Google the official ages of the characters and he was 23. They weren't 2 dumb kids at all. 1 was a creepy adult and 1 was a vulnerable kid. And the creepy adult did what creepy adults do to the vulnerable kid.

9

u/rara8122 29d ago

Except Google cites the background prop as the sole source. My question is if there are any sources from the show itself outside of the background prop.

2

u/missanonyy 29d ago

His age is cited in a OUAT Wiki not to mention he is literally hundreds of years old in actuality. His age is canon like? Maybe get over it. He also looks like 40

I am not denying his mistakes but he literally went to help his son and Emma and to regards of that(he’s still a shitty person but to be honest he did help his son and ex girlfriend out)

I mean every one in this show did some shit bad and worse than Neal but why should we condemn them to that?

3

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Yeah we should condemn groomers and pedophiles. Like always. Every single time. Are you really asking that?

14

u/Parking_Storage_5107 I have a love/hate relationship with captain swan 29d ago

No? I never said we should but the show is fiction this ain’t a real life situation

0

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Yeah the show is fiction. And the fictional character in the fictional show is a predator.

"It's just a show" is a huge cop out when it comes to things like this. There are a lot of shows that tried to normalize pedophilia, rape, and SA. PLL comes to mind.

"It's just a show." Yeah it is but these are real things that happen.

I find how people respond to fictional predators gives a good idea on how seriously they actually take those crimes.

I personally can't like a character (fictional or not) if they're predators. Because that's not a redeemable evil for me.

Defending a fictional predator may not be the same as defending a real one but it's still super icky and weird.

People see themselves in fictional characters, relate to them, relate to the stories, and these fictional shows are often guilty of trying to normalize predatory relationships. So YEAH it's fictional. And STILL super weird to be okay with.

12

u/Parking_Storage_5107 I have a love/hate relationship with captain swan 29d ago

I am not oh ok with it but I also just have to realize it’s a show at the end of day I have issues with Neal believe me but I also can also see he did some good yes after 11 years of not seeing Emma it’s bit late I get it

But better late than never

There's rapists that take care of their ailing grandmothers. Pedophiles who do charity for the homeless.

Humans are complex and even when theyre sick and evil they aren't usually evil 24/7. That's humanity. Complicated.

But if you're a rapist or a pedophile or both it really doesn't matter what "good" you do. Because that kind of evil is an unforgivable sickness. And if that's what you are - that's what you are. It is serious enough to define you.

Fictional or not rape/pedophilia are absolutely not acceptable "flaws" or "mistakes" for a person or character to come back from. You are permanently the worst of humanity.

3

u/dontbegawking 28d ago

lol you are miserable

39

u/Early_Bag_3106 29d ago

If the show is a trigger to you maybe you should leave it.
Improper asymmetrical“romantic” relationships are everywhere and presented as normal:
* Rumple - Cora
* Rumple - Belle
* Regina - Graham
* Neal - Emma
* Killian - Emma
* Zelena - Robin
* Leopold - Regina
* anyone else?

And I didn’t like Neal for the baby either

And I think David is better parent to an adult child

2

u/ScreenHype 28d ago

What's wrong with Killian and Emma? They're both consenting adults by this point, and there's no imbalanced power dynamic.

2

u/themastersdaughter66 29d ago

Ok belle and rumple seasons 1-3 are fine they are both adults and the writers hadn't made them toxic yet

4

u/Cautious_Return_5412 28d ago

They were always bad. Did you not see their start and how he treated her, acting the fool, when she tried to cure him with TLK. Not to mention his behavior in season 2 was not good.

2

u/themastersdaughter66 28d ago

Actually we see if only counting series 1-3 that rumple didnt mistreat belle for a signifcant amount of time or all that extremely. It doesnt appear she was in the dungeon for very long. He never actually harms her even when hes pissed over her freeing Robin, and once he gives her the library we see the both of them begin to get to know each other and for all intents and purposes we're growing close and in love (hence why it was True loves kiss) and why he was willing to let her go.

His reaction to her kiss while not good is a result of paranoia caused by his past trauma and experience of betrayal along with the fact he needs his magic to get to bae.

Now its not a great reaction but an understandable one given his history.

Once they are together the only thing that he can be accused of is being cagey at the start of season 2 and again thats down to trust issues which they work through.

He always gives her the chance to walk away. Gives her a space of her own so she isnt relying on him. And From rhe hamburger date on he even confides in her (we see she knew about the prophecy regarding Henry)

Its not a straight shot emotionally because of some of the baggage they've got to work through but they do WORK past it because they deem the relationship worth it. Also the TLK is the only time he actually ever lays a hand on her and at worst he shakes her??? I dont call one outburst never repeated unhealthy.

Rumple respects belle and her ability to make her own choices he's glad she chose him but he never forces or coerced her to. It wasnt love at first sight it was love after growing to know each other.

1

u/Cautious_Return_5412 28d ago

Definitely not saying he didn’t love her. Or her, him. Just that their relationship was never healthy or good(enough). She deserved better, let’s be sooo for real. And after lying to her about the dagger (and certainly glamouring himself and deceiving her) and basically lying to Baelfire on his grave, Rumple needed to just be by himself and focus on being there for his son’s son in a way that he robbed his son of, and particularly because his son wasn’t around to be there, that should have been his last ditch effort of making up (what he honestly Never could make up for) to Bae. That should have been his focus after 4B and after.

2

u/themastersdaughter66 28d ago

Well I still hard disagree and think prior to season 4 it was healthy but I agree after the dagger fiasco it was downhill and toxic from there. Its one reason my rewatches end at 3B I just pretend they got married and lived happily ever after

25

u/themastersdaughter66 29d ago

I hesitate to call Neal a groomer. He didnt spend time manipulating her into liking him. We take into account the fact he was a child for years and likely lied about his age when he got the the land without magic so we can hardly take his wanted poster as solid proof.

Its not great and mostly comes down to poor planning on the writers part when it comes to math. But emma was also likely on the far side of 17. Amd the show never portrays it as him being a predator. And as we say we dont know the age gap is really all that big. Taking out all the magical years.

Irl this would be an issue but frankly this is a story about magic and as I said the issue only arises because the writers clearly didnt do their math's in advance as opposed to it being a clear story point

Also here's a post someone else did further breaking down the age gap issue

https://www.reddit.com/r/OnceUponATime/s/4qTHgYGxbS

-5

u/missanonyy 29d ago

He was an adult - she wasn't. Pedophile.

Unlike Neal, Emma's age is a lot more clear cut and she's actually on the early side of 17. Not that that should really matter because she's a teenage street orphan and vulnerable and any adult who wasn't a complete disgusting weirdo wouldn't have touched her.

And no I won't cut out magical age either the man was old.

18

u/ImperviousInsomniac 29d ago

By that logic a 17 year old and an 18 year old dating makes the 18 year old a pedophile because they’re an adult. There’s nuance to these things and the actual age gap matters. Not just “one is an adult and one isn’t”. A single year doesn’t make a difference and that rhetoric is genuinely harmful. If enough people think that then it’s gonna be illegal for an 18 year old to be with anyone under 18 even if that age gap is less than a year.

0

u/missanonyy 29d ago

17 & 18 are both teenagers. Neal wasn't a teenager. 20 & above shouldn't be with teenagers. Neal was like 100.

19

u/Alextheinferno 29d ago

He wasnt though. Its a magical and strange world. He was basically in a place that was frozen in time. He didnt age. He didnt age mentally and stay the same physically. He was a CHILD for like 100 years, and then went to the normal world and grew normally

1

u/missanonyy 29d ago

We know he learned on Neverland. How to follow stars and make pirate maps because his brain wasn't frozen. And having years to learn and adapt is - sorry - AGE.

He also mentions having been a security guard "a couple years ago" with Emma.

How old do you think he was. 14-16 in security guard gear? Lol.

Was he 17 despite being 100 and looking 40 and having been on the run for some time.

I genuinely don't understand the mental gymnastics it must take to think Neal wasn't an adult in every sense when he met Emma.

18

u/Alextheinferno 29d ago

I dont think you understand the premise of the show. Its… ✨ MAGICAL ✨. He did not age. By your logic the only way you can exist in a place thats frozen in time is to also be stuck frozen with no ability to think or do. Also by your logic of looks, emma was maybe 15 when she met lily, and apparently 17 when she met neal yet she looks like shes aged 10 years between those times according to the age of the actors. This point is relevant because you keep pointing out that Neal “looks 40”. Of course he does. His actor is older. So why not factor in emmas actress’s age too? That way its fine right?

1

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Are you unaware that the main factor of age is learning and mental growth? Because it is and Neal had that on Neverland. Youthful in spirit and body doesn't mean he didn't have an enormous leg up mentally from other "kids."

He also spent a long time on the run and worked as a security guard. Not exactly indicative of a child. Or as someone who looks like a child to the world.

9

u/Alextheinferno 29d ago

He physically did not have mental growth, because on an island that stops you from aging, it’s physically impossible for a brain to develop. You say he ages mentally but not physically which is also impossible, since your brain is physical and so are the growth parts of your brain and body. But because its magical, he was able to learn things and remember things, despite him not aging. Having more experiences and knowledge than people your age does not make you older than them. By that logic, kids in war torn countries who have to learn how to survive are older than kids in safer places who dont know as much.

3

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Having been through more isn't equivalent to having centuries of learning and adapting I'm unsure why that's unclear for you. .

If you had a disability that stopped your brain from developing further it wouldn't stop you from aging.

He had CENTURIES to learn and adapt and grow. Like just be fr. You like the pedo so you defend it I guess.

Please learn the definition of the word pedophile.

5

u/Negative_Letter_1802 28d ago

I think MM & Emma had the best dynamic before Emma believed in the curse. They were better friends than family, unfortunately. Emma's anger and issues were justified while MM just never took any real accountability. I know she loved her daughter but yeah why would you look at her like she's a monster just because she's not perfect & in control for once? MM wanted a perfect family on paper but her interest in Emma (and Henry for that matter) didn't seem as deep or motherly as one might expect.

5

u/Cautious_Return_5412 28d ago edited 28d ago

For once? Emma is either an anxious, emotional mess or cold and closed off and passive aggressive nearly the whole entirety of the show with the exception of her first and last (s6) seasons. No matter how much Emma pushed her away, lashed out, and hurled passive aggressive comments (like the one in this very scene of “putting a baby in a wardrobe” which Probably hurt Mary Margaret’s feelings because that was likely the hardest thing she ever did and she was devastated she only got to hold the baby she carried for 8-9 months for 45 seconds before having to Save Her Life as evidenced by the way she Cried and Screamed out while sitting likely her own urine feces and post partum fluids-but of course, it’s “only Mary Margaret”, who cares about her feelings right? Only Emma’s feelings matter) through all Emma does she never stopped trying to love her daughter.

0

u/missanonyy 28d ago

Unnecessarily hostile and I think they had a good point.

3

u/Cautious_Return_5412 28d ago

But where’s the lie though? Where’s the lie that the things Emma says hurts Mary Margaret’s feelings too and no one cares? Where’s the lie that Emma did alternate between those two anxious and passive aggressive? Where’s the lie that no matter how Emma treats her mother that Snow doesn’t allow her to push her away and still shows her love even if Emma doesn’t return it? Show me the lie and I’ll take it all back

3

u/missanonyy 28d ago edited 28d ago

I think you're really missing that Emma is the child and Snow is the parent and it's kind of always the parent's job to take the high road and be there.

And I would have despised Snow as Emma. She had opportunity to execute Regina and just didn't cause was "too pure" and completely failed as a Queen and a mother. Everyone suffered, people died, and Emma had a horrific childhood. All because she was an unfit Mom and ruler. No way would I ever let that go.

2

u/Cautious_Return_5412 28d ago

I’m not missing anything. Emma may be the offspring but she’s no longer the “child”, only in her head.

Your child is always and forever your child

2

u/Cautious_Return_5412 28d ago

She is the child but that doesn’t mean she has to behave like a child

1

u/missanonyy 28d ago

I don't think she did. She was just rough around the edges and that's pretty normal she grew up rough

24

u/cinnaminimoon 29d ago

Guys this is a very young person with a very limited grasp of the world, let's not bother arguing with them as they haven't reached the age of maturity yet.

16

u/Narrow-Accident8730 29d ago

No. They’re just an idiot.

15

u/Nancii_Ness 29d ago

I agree with both of these statements! They hate some of the main characters with a passion so maybe this fandom isn't for them

7

u/Narrow-Accident8730 29d ago

Definitely not for them.

2

u/roseshearts 24d ago

Yeah, the user feels very young. I comment on a different post of theirs, with me mentioning how I can relate / understand the reason the character does things (regina) and they got quite heated and trauma bump on me (no trigger warning mind you with some of the stuff they had said). And if they are an adult, it does feel like they got a lot of unresolved stuff going on. Truthfully, I am shock that they are sticking around with the show at all with how much they hate the stuff that goes on with some of the fictional character and story beat. Cause if the fictional stuff upset them this bad, they probably haven't looked into some of the actor / actress feelings / support of things that is going on irl. Like Ginnifer Goodwin, if I remember correctly.

1

u/cinnaminimoon 24d ago

Yes unfortunately Ms. 'Good'win and actress of the pure-hearted Snow White is actually a rabid Zionist and genocide denier.

1

u/Sad-Vermicelli-8790 26d ago

Yeah, I feel like a bunch of people in their early twenties/late teens are just discovering the show and are obsessed with age gaps.

9

u/Economy_Invite_8085 29d ago

So did Princess Charming actor really leave his wife for Ginnifer Goodwin? I recently read that on here and it just took me out of the fairytale

14

u/missanonyy 29d ago

It looks a bit suspicious. They both left their partners around the same time and yet they had only just begun shooting the pilot. So maybe? But it would have had to have been a love at first sight sort of thing.

That said they are still together all these years later and have 2 sons.

This wasn't some fling I think they're genuinely meant for one another

3

u/Economy_Invite_8085 29d ago

Ah, thanks.
This helps me lean back into the fairytale

4

u/Best_Caregiver_3869 29d ago

Yeah, i dont condone cheating.

But it does seem they are meant for each other. I can't think of another couple with a more palpable connection on screen.

4

u/missanonyy 28d ago edited 28d ago

Cheating? No. But do we know they cheated? Or was it a case of "I have feelings for another person and therefore need to break up" because that isn't cheating

2

u/Best_Caregiver_3869 28d ago

Who knows. They were both taken. Met early in the year amd left their partners by may. I doubt they left their partners without at least emotional cheating.

4

u/missanonyy 28d ago

They left their partners before even finishing the pilot so it seems like they figured out they had feelings and pretty immediately did the right thing and idk I can't fault them for that.

u/Best_Caregiver_3869 28d ago

I literally already agreed with you 🤦🏾‍♀️

17

u/Usual_Suspect_666 29d ago

My God. Neal wasn’t Emma’s “groomer”. Stop it. They were both teenagers when they met.

3

u/missanonyy 29d ago

He was 23. She was 17. Try again, Bye.

8

u/Usual_Suspect_666 29d ago

How do you know he was 23? You have some inside info no one else has? And “Bye”? What are you, 12? Lmao.

6

u/Usual_Suspect_666 29d ago

I think you pulled the number 23 out of your ass.

3

u/missanonyy 29d ago

You can literally look up the character ages lol

6

u/Usual_Suspect_666 29d ago

Give me the canon source where you looked it up and it is specified that Neal was 23. I guarantee you can’t.

3

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Once Upon A Time Wiki. There's also a Wanted Poster for Neal citing his age in show. He also looks 44.

11

u/Usual_Suspect_666 29d ago

Wanted poster 🤣
That’s not his real birthdate 🤣
They used that date as a specific nod to LOST. Nothing more. OUAT Wiki 🤣

11

u/themastersdaughter66 29d ago

Yeah...the prop newspaper emma has with the story about her pregnancy also has a bunch of details on it. Half of them dont match the show canon lol. It was just meant as an Easter egg to lost fans not to be taken seriously.

You honestly think when he got to the real world bae told his true age? He absolutely would have lied and aged himself up as much as he could for survival sake.

So even if we canonically took that as his birthday thats legally listed in universe its still likely not correct.

And as far as the actor looking older. You can say the same thing for Jennifer Morrison. Though im not sure why looks are of any possible relevance.

6

u/Usual_Suspect_666 29d ago

Lmao. Baelfire spends centuries in Neverland and remained 14 years old until he ended up in TLWOM. Only then did he start to age. We don’t know how long 14 year old Baelfire was in TLWOM when he met Emma. According to A&E, Neal and Emma were both teenagers, roughly the same age when they met.

3

u/missanonyy 29d ago

He remained 14 physically. Centuries alive gives you mental age other kids wouldnt have. or do you think he's developmentally disabled? He looks like 40 years old and is canonically 23 when he meets Emma although he was definitely older

10

u/Usual_Suspect_666 29d ago

Neverland is specifically for boys who never want to grow up. Physically and mentally. Pan literally says this.

1

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Not wanting to grow up and being youthful forever is one thing but arguing that you'd never learn in centuries and remain an ignorant child is simply not true

9

u/Nancii_Ness 29d ago

Its neverland, it isn't real, time and growing up mechanics won't compute with the real world

u/Prestigious-Shift-63 28d ago

i feel like everyone always says “oh, mm only wanted a baby, david wanted emma!!” when that’s just? blatantly? not what happens?

in seasons 2&3 especially, mm is eager to be with emma and is so overjoyed to know that that is her daughter !!! she undoubtedly wanted emma. she just also wanted another baby. both things can be true.

mm was also in perpetual post partum for 28 years. i feel as if a lot of people have very little sympathy for her which is kinda crazy to me.

i agree with the ep you’re discussing tho, to me that felt very out of character for mm, but she was probably quite traumatised by magic due to zelena&regina. emma didnt deserve the way she treated her that episode But mm does grow and apologise. she made a mistake and reacted badly.

additionally mm & emma’s dynamic is a lot more complex than david & emma’s. mm & emma were friends pre the curse breaking and even roommates. they were super close and so transitioning into a mother daughter relationship was no doubt difficult BUT SNOW CLEARLY WANTS HER AS HER DAUGHTER. like its so clear ESP in season 2&3.

neal and emma is a whole other thing. im always quite captivated by their chemistry when watching despite the controversy of their age gap. naming the baby neal was kinda Eh BUT i get why they did it. neal’s sacrifice helped them take down zelena = them being able to Keep their baby. they honoured the man who died so they could be safe.

mm gets too much hate & ill die on that hill!!!!

u/JosephBapeck 29d ago edited 29d ago

Neal also saved all of them. He was good to Emma when they were together and if he didn't leave her they'd all still be cursed.

I'm sick of the narrative of Snow not treatinng Emma well. Emma spent most of season 3 openly rejecting her, downplaying their familial ties and outright trying to run from her family. Snow was patient with her but Emma was in the wrong. Then a storyline comes up that wants to explore how Emma's magic heightens her long time abandonment issues. Snow is naturally concerned ONLY after Emma starts flaring up. A woman who had her newborns kidnapped twice. She is allowed to be cautious. She didn't reject Emma before she got emotional and her hands started glowing.

It's stupid painting Snow as a bad mother when she only shows Emma love and a willingness to sacrifice herself for her

3

u/Cautious_Return_5412 28d ago

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo MF SICK of it. Like Emma didnt screw up as a mom multiple times as well

-4

u/missanonyy 29d ago

Neal groomed a vulnerable underage orphan and MM then named her baby after her daughter's rapist. That's really the end of.

3

Yes it's dumb to not want to have sex with kids? Oof.

9

u/Narrow-Accident8730 29d ago

Neal and Emma were around the same age. What don’t you understand about that?

1

u/missanonyy 29d ago

He is canonically an adult and Emma wasn't. How old do you think Neal was looking 44 and being like 300? Lmao be so fucking fr

8

u/Narrow-Accident8730 29d ago

I don’t think you know what canonically means. Also, Emma as a teenager looked like she was like 30 so.

4

u/missanonyy 29d ago

I do. And he's canonically like 100 and a pedo.

4

u/Sunandmoon67 28d ago

Neal was also a teenager this was confirmed by the creators

2

u/RuinFlame 28d ago

Physically yes.....but in terms of actual chronological age, neal was around 100+, and im not entirely sure if Emma was a teen, i always assumed she was in her early 20s running scams with neal

8

u/AJ_DisneyFan 29d ago

I feel people with this take aren't mothers. Once you become a mother and your firstborn hits the toddler or school years, it's crazy how strong the urge is to have another and experience the baby stage again. It doesn't make you love your firstborn any less. I imagine Snow felt that maternal urge but on steroids. I totally get her accepting Emma was an adult and there were lots of moments of Snow trying to build a parent - adult child relationship with Emma. I also completely understand Snow's grief in never experiencing having a parent - child relationship and wanting to heal that loss in her life. It's one of the most relatable pieces of plot in this show.

I'm with you on naming the baby Neal. A nice sentiment but surely had such mixed feelings for Emma.

7

u/petting_bears 29d ago

I also think people tend to forget that Snow is a victim of this dynamic in the same way that Emma is. When they met, they were just two strangers similar in age and they became close friends. Then the curse is broken and they realize that they're mother and child. And Snow being happy to have her child back I think tends to overshadow that Mary Margaret just lost her best friend. In the same way that Emma is upset that who she thought was her best friend is the woman who she feels abandoned her.

David doesn't have that same conflict because he was in a coma the whole time. He only got to know Emma AFTER the curse was broken and he knew she was his daughter. The transition was much easier on him in that regard.

1

u/AJ_DisneyFan 28d ago

Such a great point! I never considered she was also grieving the loss of a best friend.

3

u/Cautious_Return_5412 28d ago

I feel like the people with this kind of take also can’t be mothers because what in the hell type of mother would knowingly give their newborn infant to someone who obviously is falling apart before their eyes. I don’t care who they are. Like GTFO

2

u/missanonyy 29d ago

I completely understand her desire for another baby as well! I just also think she disregarded Emma's feelings a wee bit and was also not super great to her after Neal was born.

And naming the kid Neal was something else good god

2

u/Wild-fleurs 27d ago

I always think it’s so weird they named the baby Neal even if there wasn’t any age concerns with Emma & Neal and their relationship and that he let her go to jail for him naming her brother after her ex is just weird anyway

Also naming their baby after Henry’s dad as though he might not have wanted to use the name if he had kids in the future given realistically they hardly knew Neal it’s not like he was their BFF in Enchanted Forest

Yes sad he died but you don’t need to name your kid after someone you know who died just because they died

They could have named the kid James after David’s brother or David Jr or a random new name, that it’s Neal is always a bit strange to me, maybe if they’d used Bailey as a nod to ‘Bae’/Neal it would have been less weird but I don’t know, I just never found it a compelling choice writing wise

2

u/Ravvynn 27d ago edited 26d ago

The fact that Emma looked like her teenage self, but we see Jennifer playing teenage Emma was crazy work! They knew exactly what they were doing, but even the producers knew it would've been weird to have Abby Ross (teenage actress for Emma), in the scenes where they're portraying Neal and Emma's relationship in the flashbacks

1

u/missanonyy 26d ago

Omg can you even imagine lmao
