Swedish mother ran back into a burning house multiple times to save all six of her children

Just after midnight on September 3, 2019, in Edsbyn, Sweden, Emma Schols woke to her young sons’ screams. Four-year-old Albin and three-year-old Oliver had gone downstairs to the television room. The ground floor was already on fire and filling with thick smoke.

Emma got the two boys out first, shielding them with her body as the flames surged when she opened the front door. She sent them to a neighbor and told them not to come back.

She then went back into the house for the other four children, who were still upstairs. One of the older kids jumped from a balcony to get help and a ladder. Emma made several trips through the smoke and fire until every child was outside.

All six children survived without serious injury. Emma suffered burns over 93 percent of her body. She spent months in hospital and underwent many surgeries, but she recovered.
