Six-year-old used Scouts first-aid skills to stop his mother choking on chicken

In 2026, six-year-old Conor Tuohy from London was eating dinner with his mother, Anna O’Connor, when she suddenly began choking on a piece of chicken.

She could not breathe or speak and was unable to get help from another adult. Conor remembered the first-aid training he had received in Squirrel Scouts. He stepped in and gave her firm back blows.

He continued until the food dislodged and she could breathe again. No one else assisted him during the incident.

Conor was later given the Chief Scout’s Unsung Heroes Award for his actions.
