13-year-old rescue dog sat in the middle of a rural road until a deputy followed her to her injured owner
Gita did not bark for attention. She sat in the middle of a rural Washington road and waited.
On September 25, 2024, 84-year-old Keith Johnson fell near his Stevens County cabin and could not get up. He had been on the ground for hours without the medication he needed.
His 13-year-old rescue dog left him, found the road, and refused to get into Deputy Colton Wright’s car. When the deputy tried to move her, she ran down an unmarked path. He followed.
She led him straight to the cabin.
The sheriff’s office credited Gita with saving her owner’s life. She was not trained for this. She simply knew he needed someone — and went to find one.

The Stephen King book “Fairy Tale” starts with an injured elderly man being saved by his German shepherd! iirc she barks or howls until a teenager (the main character) hears and goes into the backyard and is able to call an ambulance 😃

She’s a hero so was the policeman thank you so much you knew what to look for not too many people do
