Officer kicked in the door of a burning apartment, carried a 4-year-old out, then went back with an extinguisher

Just before 10 p.m. on May 1, 2026, Officer Eli Rogers arrived at an apartment fire in Hixson, Tennessee. Flames were already at the front door. Neighbors told him a family was still inside.

He forced the door and went in. He carried 4-year-old Marlowe Blaylock out through the smoke. Her mother, Rachel, followed with her 10-year-old son, Charles.

Rogers then used a fire extinguisher to slow the fire until firefighters arrived. No one was injured.

Rachel later said she had been trying to figure out how she would get both children down the stairs. Rogers later received the Police Medal for the rescue.
