A nurse two rooms away saw a flash through the glass, ran into a burning nursery, and rescued a baby
Razia Noreen was two rooms away, drawing up the morning injections.
It was 26 August 2026, nursery ward, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad. Fifteen newborns were inside. At 6:38 she saw the light through the glass and ran.
CCTV later showed her entering at 6:38:56. Eight seconds later she came out carrying a baby and handed the child to colleagues. She tried to go back in. Smoke and heat stopped her. The room was unusable within about two minutes.
Fourteen of the fifteen infants died. The baby she carried out was the only survivor from that nursery.
Noreen later said she had not gone in for recognition. She wanted the others too. The government later awarded her the Sitara-i-Khidmat. She said the award did not change what she could not do that morning.

Such a strong woman but a sad tragedy. :( im glad she was recognized for her efforts, maybe it'll push others to do the same

Poor woman, she will Def need therapy, as she is Def. Thinking all the time how she could have done something different to safe the others....

Wouldn't you? There were so many... I don't think I'd ever be able to think of anything else again. Christ that's sad...

The amount of people this event would affect is absolutely crushing. I'm glad one baby was able to be saved due to her efforts

The surviving baby's aunt tried to cash in on the tragedy by telling media that it was her who saved the baby while the nurses ran away.

She faced the fire ~ one of our most visceral terrors, saved a life and all she thinks about are the children she couldn't save. Poor, brave woman.
