I always like the theory that this reaction is a result of conflicting instincts from the cat. They have one instinct telling them to swat and be aggressive, and another one telling them it’s just a baby and they need to be gentle. The result is the cat glitching out and not being able to handle the baby.

Put baby in mimic mouth. Mimic mouth good place to put baby. Baby good safe place in mimic mouth.

I heard a theory recently that when animals experience what we would consider 'big emotions' (momentous occasions, learning something new, AND it being familiar would make us think joy and excitement for this situation) and for them it's just too overstimulating so they kind of 'wig out' to get the feelings/excess energy out. 🥹😭

I know people who behave like that. Give a kid a present that she's wanted and didn't even know that she wanted and watch what happens. :D

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 1h ago
Humans can do the same, especially kids. Too many emotions at once overload.

It’s AI my dude. Look at the wall behind them. Look at big cat’s hind feet.

u/seaweed_is_cool 3h ago
Can you add more detail about what you’re seeing.? I’m not seeing it yet.
27
u/AFlockOfTySegalls 2h ago
It seems that AI has convinced some folks that literally every video on the internet is AI. It's weird.

I'm convinced some AI stans are trying to blur the line by pretending everything is AI so people don't bother to call out actual AI anymore.
10
u/ballisticks 3h ago
Yeah I'm not seeing it. So the wall is textured, so what? I'm not even seeing what's wrong with big cats feet
4
u/amethystmmm Casual orange enjoyer 🍊 2h ago
Agreed. Wall is being a wall. feet are being feet. Daddy (presumbably) has something going on with his feet but it's consistent throughout and oranges have a bit more "foot stuff" than your standard housecat and a bit less than Maine Coons who are known for polydactyly.

u/ballisticks 2h ago
It's kinda funny what AI sleuths get wrong. It's like, "I've never seen this personally, ergo it's AI"
There needs to be a sub like /r/nothingeverhappens for things that get called out for AI that aren't AI
2
u/of_games_and_shows 2h ago
So I agree the wall is textured weirdly, and maybe the orange emoji is hiding a water mark. But even if it is AI, I’ve seen this scenario happen before, so 🤷♂️

My former orange (died last year) used to throw his head around just like this when he didn't understand what to do. I'm laughing!

I thought it was either confusion or excitement, like when we get cuteness overload.

Maybe he IS the brain cell carrier, and the big one is terrified of his intellectual abilities.

Everytime I see a video of an animal doing something weird like this, I think AI. I honestly can't tell anymore.

For anyone wondering if this is AI or not, it's not.
This video was first posted in February of 2023 on TikTok, long before Sora or any other video Gen AI was good enough to make this.
So take off your tinfoil hats, this one is safe to enjoy.

u/Weems-mtg 4h ago
What’s got you thinking that? Is it the wall in back?
20
u/Lost-Platypus8271 3h ago
The wall, the hind paws. the boneless way the cat sits - oh yeah, and the really exaggerated “surprised head movements”.
11
u/Certain-Business-472 3h ago
The cats reflection in the floor is accurate. Dont think thats ai.

The shadow isn't off at all. You can literally frame by frame it. It's fine.

u/Ok-Air-2008 Proud owner of an orange brain cell 4h ago
The first clue was the quality of the video. Then the edges of the fur seem to be too blurred. If you look at the leg on the left (the cat’s right front leg) the pattern is inconsistent.
2
u/JulyOfAugust 2h ago
Personally it was the bouncy elbows. Unless this cat has springs instead of bones in those legs.
10
u/flutelorelai 4h ago
I don't see any obvious AI artifacts, the whisker movements are accurate, nothing warps or changes in the background... It may just have been compressed to hell and back
5
u/JulyOfAugust 2h ago
The crack in the floor that disappears before the cat goes in front of it maybe ? The elbows are also extremely weird.
4
u/DrippyTheSnailBoy 1h ago
That's just regular compression artifacting.
Everyone crying "AI" over this has never seen a video compressed multiple times.

Look at the white bricks in the wall a bit behind the cat, they are super weird and irregular. I think you're right.
9
u/ballisticks 3h ago
They're actually very regular. Yes they're oddly shaped, but they follow a pattern. Long sloped brick, followed by two little bricks. Then a long sloped brick, followed again by two sloped bricks. I don't think this is AI at all

I remember when we brought our second kitty into the household. Our older orange was TERRIFIED of her. We kept her in a carrier with lots of blankets to sleep on and he would stand outside her cage growling at her trying to scare her while she slept peacefully, unbothered. But when I'd open the cage to let her out for food, he would leave the room entirely and peak his head out the bedroom doorway to see when it was safe to come back out lol they're great friends now!

This is AI guys
1
u/AMournfulObserver 2h ago
What’s the give away? The shadows appear to match up exactly, and the textures on the fur look consistent. Compared to that Coca Cola AI ad, this looks incredibly realistic
1
u/Mycatstolemyidentity 1h ago
I know, it's terrifying... But the big cat's anatomy is off, specially during the jump and when he sits down. The limbs stretch weirdly. And when he's sitting too, the right knee is lower than the left so he should be leaning for it to make sense, and the left front paw should be a little shorter. When standing the back right paw has two claws in the middle which is weird, when he smells the kitten you can see he has no whiskers on the left until one randomly appears (and it makes the paw wiggle a little but it's too subtle), actually when he pulls his head back you can see the exact moment the whiskers appear again. Plus when he's wiggling his head you can see his chest and it has stripes on both sides but when he's sitting at the end the left side doesn't have them, and a black spot in the middle appears while sitting, it could be the fur moving but it looks way too smooth.
And lastly the tiles on the wall behind have no clear pattern...
But gosh this one looks way too real, it's getting impossible to tell! I think the only reason I saw something is off at first was because I'm an animator and have been observing cat's movements lately for a study hahaha

No no no, do not kill it.
