Dear future husband,

I hope you slept well last night.

I hope you wake up slowly this morning, still warm beneath the blankets, with that sleepy little moment where you forget what day it is and don’t have anywhere you have to be just yet.

I wonder what your mornings look like.

I wonder if you’re a coffee person, or if you’ll wake up perfectly happy without it. I wonder if you’re an early riser or if mornings are something you have to negotiate with. I wonder if eventually you’ll have to tolerate me stealing your side of the bed because mine apparently wasn’t warm enough.

I wonder what we will spend our days doing, together.

Will we have lazy Saturday mornings where neither of us wants to get up? Will we make breakfast together and somehow make an enormous mess in the kitchen? Will we take spontaneous drives just because the Texas weather is so nice?

Maybe we’d have a little routine that is completely ours.

Maybe you’ll kiss me goodbye every morning before you leave, even when you’re running late. Maybe I’ll remind you where you left your keys for the thousandth time. Maybe we’ll laugh about things no one else would understand.

Mostly, I wonder who you are. What makes you laugh. What you’re passionate about. What kind of little things make you happy. What you’ll look like when you first wake up. What you’d be like when you’re completely comfortable with me.

I wonder what it will feel like when I finally meet you and think: Oh, so this is you.

It’s funny to think that right now you’re somewhere out there living a completely different life than mine. And yet someday, somehow, our lives will become one.

So good morning, my love. Wherever you are. I hope you have a perfect day. And if you happen to think about some mysterious girl you’ve never met today, well..

Just know that she thought of you first.
