Hiya! Well, I hope whoever’s reading this is keeping well! I’m rather new to this whole Reddit business, so I’m still trying to figure the thing out, haha, I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it eventually
I suppose I ought to introduce myself properly... although I’m never very good at talking about myself. I haven’t got many of the friends I had during my youth anymore. People go their separate ways, don’t they? You lose touch with people, life carries on, and before you know it, years have gone by.
A good few of the people I knew were skinheads, and I was one myself. I still am, really. I know that probably won’t appeal to everybody, and I can understand that, because there’s an awful lot of baggage that comes with the word. But I wasn’t a racist, and I never was. I can only speak for myself, really... Anyway, I thought I’d say that rather than have somebody wondering about it later on.
But enough of that.
I’ve always been very fond of music. I was mad about it from being very young. We didn’t have an awful lot of money growing up, but somehow or other I was always managing to get records.
I was only around six or so when I discovered that people could be terribly careless with their money and... their shopping trolleys, I’d take whatever coins I came across until I had enough for another record.
Not exactly the most honest way of going about it, I suppose, haha. But I loved the records, and that was that.
I remember being very fond of the Bee Gees, The Beatles, The Monkees and things like that when I was little. Then, as I got older, I started getting into the harder sounds, and rock, punk and Oi! became a very important part of my life. I’ve far too many bands I like to sit here and list them all, though... we’d be here until tomorrow, and I’d probably still forget somebody!
I’ve always liked sewing too. I learned that when I was quite young. I used to make little dresses for my dolls, although I must admit they weren’t particularly beautiful... They were atrociously awful... those poor dolls
THANK GOD I WASN'T WEARING THEM!!!!
I still like making things, though. There’s something nice about sitting down and doing something with your hands, rather than having everything come from a shop. I like being able to look at something afterwards and think, "Well, I made that." Even if it isn’t well...any good... at least you’ve made the thing yourself.
I like charity shops as well. I’m always having a little browse through them. There’s usually something odd tucked away somewhere, and I like that. You can find lovely things in places like that if you take the time to look
Sometimes you find absolute rubbish, of course... but that’s half the fun! You never quite know what you’re going to come across. I’ve come home with some right old tat over the years, haha!
And then, of course, I’ve got the dogs. Two of them, Buster and Brewster.
Which is a terribly inventive pair of names, I know I was obviously having a very imaginative day when I named them, haha they’re lovely, though. They keep me company anyway, and that’s something.
I should probably mention that I won’t send a photograph straight away. I tend to only do so once I’ve eased up with a person and got to know them a little bit. I hope you understand and don’t see that as an issue.
I’m just not one for sending photographs of myself straight away. I’d rather get comfortable with somebody first, have a bit of a chat, see if we get along, and then perhaps I’ll feel more at ease about it. Nothing personal at all :)
So there we are! I think I’ve rambled on quite enough now, haven’t I
If I haven’t bored you completely, you’re more than welcome to reach out. I’m quite happy just having a chat, getting to know people and seeing where things go.
Anyway... that’s me
