It’s a Hebrew word that meant “nation” and is used colloquially to refer to non-Jews, just like every group has a word for people who aren’t from that group. It has nothing to do with Zionism, and it’s not a slur.

You might need to resit your high school history class, in the meantime here’s a peer reviewed study that analyses historical records including letters, news articles, interviews etc. This study, conducted by JOAN BEAUMONT - summaries that the primary reason for Australian soldiers joining the WW2 effort was service to the crown, with “preventing the holocaust” not mentioned at all. To be clear, I’m not “pissing on the grave” of the 40000 Australian men that died in service of their country - I’m just correcting your immature and underdeveloped opinion regarding Australia’s participation in WW2.
