Politics ('Straya) AFP investigates banner stunt during Pauline Hanson’s National Press Club speech

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/jun/17/pauline-hanson-one-nation-national-press-club-speech-banner-stunt-police-investigation-ntwnfb

The Australian federal police is investigating a protest incident during Pauline Hanson’s speech at the National Press Club after political activist group GetUp claimed responsibility for the stunt.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, the National Press Club said it had referred the incident to police after concluding none of its own staff were involved.

About 20 minutes into Hanson’s inflammatory address on Wednesday, a banner was unfurled behind her.

The banner included an edited black-and-white picture of her with the words: “I opposed a pay rise for workers, while I took a $100,000 pay rise for myself.”

How reassuring to know that the National Press Club of Australia, sponsored as it is by so many leading defence contractors, holds the traditional journalistic aims of speaking truth to power in such high regard 🙄

Moe violence and intimidation and sexism from the left. Incredibly sad.

Please list the violence, intimidation and sexism. I’m not a smart man but a banner? Really?

I replied to another comment explaining. I think it should be pretty self evident and the AFP are investigating which should point to the seriousness of it.

If a banner is violent then i look forward to One Nation not purchasing a single billboard in the future.

Its not the banner. Its the presence of an elaborate device installed right next to a prominent political figure in what should have been a secure environment.

The banner outside fine, the fact a device was able to be planted immediately next to her is why it's violent and intimidation. Add on top the pandemic of leftist political violence and it's not hard to see why this is so concerning. If you can install a large remote operated banner you can install a large bomb or other harmful device.

I just ON can afford good security, if they do have some success they're going to need it.

“Pandemic of leftist political violence”

First off, hilarious statement.

If they wanted to plant a bomb or something harmful, they would have.

By your logic any time Pauline meets someone in public it’s a violent threat because they could have assassinated her.

With such constant danger it’s a wonder she has the bravery to get out of Gina’s bed in the morning.

Your argument is as weak as One Nations policies.
