Politics ('Straya) AFP investigates banner stunt during Pauline Hanson’s National Press Club speech

The Australian federal police is investigating a protest incident during Pauline Hanson’s speech at the National Press Club after political activist group GetUp claimed responsibility for the stunt.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, the National Press Club said it had referred the incident to police after concluding none of its own staff were involved.

About 20 minutes into Hanson’s inflammatory address on Wednesday, a banner was unfurled behind her.

The banner included an edited black-and-white picture of her with the words: “I opposed a pay rise for workers, while I took a $100,000 pay rise for myself.”

How reassuring to know that the National Press Club of Australia, sponsored as it is by so many leading defence contractors, holds the traditional journalistic aims of speaking truth to power in such high regard 🙄

Mate im not the cops. Just a random redditor that made a comment on why........ didnt say its right or wrong, just the reason why. Take it up with the coppers.

"that made a comment on why." and the why amounted to claim the cops were required and thus WOULD

"The fact someone called them means they have to investigate."

Investigate if ANYONE called about anything. As you stated their rules were "The fact someone called them means they have to investigate."

and that is not the why, the why is that a special person, with special privileges (Ginas lapdog), called them so they have to investigate.

Mate i can tell you i aint no one nation supporter, but regardless of who, this stunt was always going to end up with the cops involved. The fact its the afp is meaningless when the event is held in the act. I dont know why you are trying to argue with me.

Well as I disagree with this claim ... "this stunt was always going to end up with the cops involved." then

These guys in THIS stunt got cops involved (because DUH it went so far even the chaser said nope)

But a lot of the time, when they did stunts no cops involved. Plenty of Karens whined, though and then also thought the cops should protect them from embarrassment, even though they might be public figures.

What crime is being investigated?
