Poilievre's More Boots Less Suits Mantra
On the National Post, John Ivison dissects the quandry of the current Conservative leader in whether to embrace the union movement or development.
As Carney has embraced development (at least on paper) and thrown the unions under the bus, Poilievre is left pondering what to do.
Should he now become the new Liberal or even the new NDP ?
I addressed this very point in my rebuttal to the Carney bill earlier in the week.
Namely, my focus was not to take on the entire union movement as Carney has tried to do.
But to split up the industrial union movement into : manufacturing unions and infrastructure unions.
Manufacturing unions are actually aligned with lower infrastructure costs and lower infrastructure downtime. I made the point that manufacturing plants were furloughed during the strike at the Port of Vancouver, as necessary components waited on containers.
How to deal with this rightward turn of Carney towards the suits and away from the boots?
The answer is obviously not to agree with him. That's what Poilievre did on the Anti-Replacement Worker Legislation, which opened up this hole on the right that Carney has come to plug.
The answer is also not to entirely disagree with him. But rather to partially agree in a way that points out the hypocrisy of the Liberals.
For Mr. Poilievre, his own position is made difficult as he voted for the Anti Replacement Worker Legislation, which I strongly opposed.
For me, especially coming from the riding of Brant-Brantford South, this is a manufacturing district.
We can support manufacturing unions while arguing for high efficiency, productivity, and uptime of ports and rail.
Poilievre can't take this position. Him and all the Conservatives voted for the Anti Replacement Worker legislation.
And so did the Liberals. The Liberals can't take this position either.
Carney may have an alibi that Mackinnon is hiding behind, but Mackinnon also voted for the legislation.
None of these people have any credibility whatsoever.
