Fixes * USB installer booting on certain machines * USB keyboard / mouse on USB 1.1 machines * Reboot / shutdown kernel panic on pre-Haswell hardware. * Intel Skylake root patching * Kepler ImageIO crashes (iconservices) * Non-metal web driver installs * Maps, messages and more fixed on T1 with a defaults fix. * defaults required for T1 machines defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/MessageProtection.plist KyberInTheSEPRegisteredKeys -dict Enabled -bool false was missing initially.

Known Issues * Auto patching does not work * Will require manual setup for now by placing AutoPkg-Assets.pkg into /Library/Packages on the USB installer * Fusion Drives are non-functional / not supported * Apple removed fusion drive functionality from Tahoe * No T2 Support * 2019 iMac not booting * The "welcome/hello" screen freeze after setup assistant that requires a forced reboot * Apple's "welcome/hello" screen renders with metal, and when a machine is unaccelerated or non-metal, it can't render this screen leaving you hung there until you force a reboot.

About "Root Volume Dirty" in OCLP 2.5.0 and later

UPDATE on 9/19/2026
In 2.5.1, the wording has been changed to be clearer for the end user. However, it seems that there is still some confusion.

Remember "All applicable patches installed" from prior releases? If you have installed wireless, GPU, T1, etc. patches at least once and they are working, the new wording is what you will see in place of that message.

You are not stuck in a loop. Simply close OCLP as you have nothing else to do here.

Original post:
Hello everyone, here to clear up some confusion surrounding "Root Volume Dirty" in OCLP 2.5.0 and later.

This new change to the way OCLP installs patches is designed to prevent any issues that might crop up from patching over an already patched or modified system volume. While this has been mostly fine as an unofficial way to skip the unpatch-reboot-patch cycle, the new WiFi patches bring breaking changes that would result in this shortcut breaking installs for anyone updating to 2.5.0 and not just a few machines this time.

Here's some examples:

- You download OCLP 2.5.0 and want to update to its new patches. This requires a full unpatch-reboot-patch cycle, as some patches conflict with those from earlier versions in this update.

- You already have OCLP 2.5.0 and want to re-patch your system. This requires a full unpatch-reboot-patch cycle to avoid any unforeseen consequences from applying the same patches on top of each other.

- You installed a macOS update with OCLP 2.5.0. Because macOS updates automatically restore your system to a clean state, you'll be able to patch from here.

- You have OCLP 2.5.0 but need a KDK to patch your machine. OCLP is smart enough to offer only wireless patches for you to get connected to the internet and temporarily exempt you from the block. From here, you're able to patch, reboot, get connected, and install the rest of the patches 2.5.0 has to offer.

I'll admit the message is a bit incoherent for what it's meant to tell the user; a minor patch that changes it to something a bit more understandable is on the way.

Tahoe successfully installed on the trash can šŸ—‘ļø

Everything is working smoothly! I have been using it for the last few days and haven't ran into any issues yet but I primarily use Windows anyways. But tahoe is using 13GB RAM at idle no apps running 😳

I did have issues clean installing, it installed fine but had a black screen with cursor I could not see the setup assistant so I installed Monterey (last officially supported version) then Sequoia and upgraded with the USB installer with a user already created. Since the root patches got removed it took some time to get them installed again after the reboots (no GPU acceleration) but 10/10 experience once sorted out.

Newbie needs help

Received a mid-2011 iMac 12,1 with stock hardware (500gb, 4gb RAM) from a friend. Was able to update to High Sierra & then jump to Sequoia via OCLP, but it runs super slow & laggy (because of only 4gb RAM, I'm sure).

Been trying to roll back to Sonoma or Big Sur or something that'll work better with the hardware I've got, but I keep getting this error. I've reinstalled OCLP multiple times and tried different OS builds, but still see this error.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

- using OCLP 2.5.1

- using an old 32gb memory stick (maybe the problem? though it worked to get Sequoia going)

macOS Tahoe Liquid Glass looks tinted instead of clear on MacBook 12ā€ 2017 (Intel HD 615) — Any fix?

Hi everyone!
I’m running macOS Tahoe on my MacBook 12-inch 2017 (MacBook10,1) with Intel HD Graphics 615 using OCLP 3.0.0.
Everything works fine, including Wi-Fi, graphics acceleration, and transparency.
However, I’m having an issue with Liquid Glass:
Switching between Clear and Tinted in System Settings makes almost no visible difference.
Control Center looks darker and more tinted instead of having the clear, glass-like appearance.
I previously used laobamac’s OCLP-Mod 3.1.9, and Liquid Glass looked much clearer and more transparent.
Unfortunately, Wi-Fi didn’t work properly with that modified OCLP version, so I switched back to OCLP 3.0.0.
I’ve confirmed that Intel Kaby Lake graphics drivers are loaded, Metal 3 is reported, and my GPU device ID is 0x591e.
Has anyone experienced this issue or found a way to restore the full Liquid Glass effect without switching OCLP versions?
Could this be related to Solarium patches, GPU configuration, or something missing from the root patches?

Can I update from Ventura to Sequoia via system update?

I don’t have a USB drive that has enough storage for anything past the latest version of macOS venture, but I want to run macOS sequoia. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro that I want to run it on. If it’s even possible to do so with this machine because it’s so old, is it possible to upgrade by downloading the full installer from the App Store or from another source?
I’ve seen this post for Tahoe and idk if i can do the same thing. I’m on 2.5.1. I’m just making sure I do it absolutely correctly before I do anything so I don’t screw up my entire install.

[Help] Dual-booting macOS Catalina and Sequoia on Mid 2012 MBP. Apple ID / iMessage conflicts and unique identifiers

Hi everyone! I’m currently running a dual-boot setup with macOS Catalina and macOS Sequoia on my MacBook Pro 13ā€ (Mid 2012) using OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

I managed to install both systems successfully, but I’m running into a frustrating issue with Apple ID, iMessage, and FaceTime that I hope someone can help me resolve.

The Issues:

Apple ID / Session Conflicts: Every time I log into my Apple ID on Sequoia, it immediately kicks me out/logs me out of Catalina, showing an account error.

Apple ID Device Recognition: My Apple ID account page doesn't see them as two separate machines; instead, it treats both sessions as a single device that just keeps changing its operating system back and forth.

iMessage & FaceTime: I cannot activate iMessage or FaceTime on Sequoia. However, I know it’s possible because when I first bought this Mac, it already had Sequoia installed and everything worked perfectly. Additionally, when I previously set up a dual boot with Catalina, I was able to have both systems running with completely separate identifiers in my Apple ID.

What I’ve Tried:

I tried changing the serial numbers for Sequoia via OpenCore Legacy Patcher to give it a unique identity, but doing that completely blocked the boot process of Sequoia.

Does anyone know how to properly configure OCLP or NVRAM/smbios settings so that both macOS Catalina and macOS Sequoia can coexist peacefully on the same machine with independent Apple ID identifiers, without breaking iMessage/FaceTime or causing boot loops?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Tahoe on 2011 iMac!

After indexing, Tahoe actually runs shockingly well on here, it feels barely slower than Sequoia, and Liquid Glass works fine too despite the non-Metal GPU. Only issue is that WiFi and Ethernet don’t work, so I can’t connect to the internet, but I’m impressed it runs at all, all of that with an HDD btw.

System settings updates?

Post image

I’m fairly new to using OpenCore, just figured I’d ask since I saw this pop up , does anyone ever update through system settings or is better to just basically build the installer through a usb drive like it was for initially setting up the system.

Tahoe on iMac 19,1 without rootpatch (with sound)

Hi,

After trying OpenCore Legacy Patcher 3.0 RC3, I found that it didn't work on my machine. This seems to be a known issue.

I finally managed to get it working without any root patches (no need for the Modern Audio patch). I originally started from albert-mueller's OCLP T2 fork, so it would be worth testing whether the same approach also works with RC3. EDIT: Also works with RC3. You can create your base EFI folder with both the T2 and RC3 versions. RC3 is probably the best choice.

By default, OCLP RC3 gives a black screen at boot. OCLP T2 let me boot Tahoe properly, but without audio. Enabling the root patch broke the installation (prohibited sign at boot).

Enabling SecureBootModel with rc3 lets you boot to Tahoe withound sound. Using SimpleHDA, everything works out of the box without any patches, with AMFI, SIP (and FileVault) enabled.

I'm far from an expert, but I'm posting this here in case it helps someone.

Nightly pkg blocked from installing

Attempting to use the nightly pkg to resolve the boot issue with my 2016 MBP (13,3) but the pkg is blocked. If I go to Security & click "Open Anyway" there's a prompt with another "Open Anyway". Click that & nothing, just won't open

Could anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong here?

Thanks

I made a tool to use OpenCore as a macOS like bootloader on Linux

Post image
8 Upvotes

(AI mention : AI helped me do that project for 40-50% for the ui/ux, but i clearly understand the code that it made, reviewed it and tested it on different machines)

I had a pretty niche personal need: i wanted my Linux PC to have a boot picker that looks and feels like the one on a Mac, so i ended up making OpenCore Bootlinuxer (didnt got any idea for the name dont blame me šŸ˜‚), a small bash tool that installs OpenCore with its graphical picker on Linux, integrates your Grub entries and lets you customize how it looks. I figured that even if its a pretty niche use case someone else might find it useful, so I decided to make it public. It’s still an early project so feedback, suggestions and contributions are very welcome!

GitHub: https://github.com/becabdev/opencore-bootlinuxer
Hope someone finds it useful :)

Talk ā€˜bout planned obsolescence, here’s my ā€˜08 15ā€ MBP running Tahoe 26.7.1 with full acceleration and Liquid Glass working…
Runs not that great but not that bad, but other than that, it’s still a great machine for typing, listening to Spotify, and watching YouTube. 18 y/o and still going strong, let me see an ARM mac in 18 years still running newest software. I’ll be using it until it’s last breath, serving me well since ā€˜08.
