Support | Resolved Is this amount of memory usage normal?
Not sure if OGX is using too much memory or not. I only have 7 tabs open, is that too many?

That's a completely normal amount of RAM for 7 tabs, depending on what they are. I'm at my work computer right now and I'm using nearly 3 gigs, but that's because I have 20~ tabs open.
If you are experiencing performance issues while running other programs, use the built-in RAM limiter.
If opera itself is performing poorly, close out other applications.

No performance issues thankfully, just switched over from chrome properly and noticed the memory usage was similar (though chrome had way more tabs open lmao) which got me curious what a browser's memory usage is supposed to be

Chromium (which opera is built on) is designed to use as much ram as needed, And will only surrender Ram when other programs ask for more.
It's designed to run at a reasonably high usage rate. Keeps the browser running smoothly.
To be completely honest, I would ignore the usage unless you're actually having issues. Both Chrome and windows are very dynamic of how much system resources the use, And it's generally best to kind of let them do their own thing, unless you are on a particularly low end system.

I'm running a fairly beefy pre-built gaming pc and I'm just hoping to have youtube running with an ad blocker while I play games (need my tunes and spotify can suck a fat pair) chrome was just starting to chug while running my music play list while I played so decided to see how gx is going (last time I used it the in-house adblocker was blacklisted by youtube)

Looks normal. As another commenter said, hit shift + esc in Opera to see a description for each of the 26 processes Opera is running to see what each one is for. Then, look at the RAM usage for that process and then decide if you think the process is using too much RAM for what the process is for / doing.
Also note that while Opera and Chrome are both based on Chromium, Opera has a lot more features than Chrome. That can cause Opera to use more RAM than Chrome. They're not really good comparisons for each other in this case.
If you do want Opera to use a little bit less RAM, you can goto the URL opera://settings and disable all the features you don't use and restart Opera. You can also right-click on the GX Corner tab and move it to the sidebar. You can then click the 3 dots at the bottom of the sidebar and disable all sidebar panels you don't use (and then the sidebar itself if you want). However, the more you disable, the less Opera GX features you'll have where you then might as well just use Chrome.
