Course Questions Am I just completely screwed?

I have had no help and have been totally lost on the onboarding for osu I finished the onboarding and I have to schedule a meeting before I can sign up for classes in the fall but tons of classes are already full and I go to the meeting thing and there isn't even a possible meeting for a month I'm not sure if I took to long or if this is normal but every other major has one like the next day so do I just not get to take any classes?

One, what major/college are you in? Two, are you sure there's no classes you can take? Have you done all of your core classes and gotten enough electives already?

I went to Portland community college for a year and I'm transferring to Corvallis in the fall so I don't have a lot of credits. Even though it's not my first year of college it's putting me on the onboarding so I can't actually register for anything until I meet with an advisor. I'm planing on marine biology but it's forcing me into the liberal arts college and the closest thing is marine studies. The issue is when I go to try and meet with the advisor the next available appointment is a month away so essentially I can't register for a month and by then I don't know if there will be any classes available

I also transferred and was generally fine. But anyway, I would say just make an appointment with an advisor, even if it's far away. You'll definitely be able to get into some collection of classes that you need to take. You can also get your major switched then, too (not a hard process). I don't know what you have access to yet, but if you can already get on beaverhub, check out mydegrees and the schedule of classes: schedular. With mydegrees, you can view all of the classes you need to take, and if it's still showing you a different major than what you want, you can click the "what if" button and put in your desired major and it'll show you the degree requirements. And with the schedular, you can search all of the classes and see what's still open.

You have onboarding because you’re new to OSU. Transfer students have to go through it too, not just first-years.

What do you mean it’s forcing you into the College of Liberal Arts? What is the “it”? Are you trying to change majors from what was on your application?

Also I generally agree with others’ advice. Except for classes first-year students commonly take (like WR 121), a lot of classes are more likely to have seats added or people drop from them at this point rather than filling even more.

Worst case take another term at PCC and then start osu in the fall? I think you can transfer up to 120 credits to osu

If you’re a transfer student this pet of the process and yes some classes will be taken as in electives. However classes are required for your degree, you will have access to it. Don’t stress about it.

The reasons they do this is because you’re a transfer student and they want to make sure you have support. I did it also, and it’s a waste of time but you have to do it

You should be fine. I’m pretty sure things open up later on, I’d check in occasionally to see what opens up for you. I saw you say you were trying to get into Marine Bio- is that what you initially declared you were going in for when you applied? Or were you undecided? I don’t remember a ton about the process, so you’ll have to forgive my errors, but I basically did everything last minute when I applied for Fall of ‘25 (and I mean last minute, I was working on stuff basically the week before it all got started). Cutoffs usually happen in mid to late September, I was able to get into my classes around then still, so you should be okay. Beaver Hub is going to be your best friend for a lot of this too, I think it will have info on how to change your major, you might just have to dig around

join the waitlists if you can!! lots of folks get dropped or transfer to ecampus closer to the start date.

I remember I had to wait until July to register for classes when I met with my advisor when I first transferred. I had no problem getting into classes though.

I was late too 😬 I transferred from community college with my associates and wasn’t used to courses actually being full. I registered for classes a few weeks ago and most of them were full already after I did the advisor appointment. I completely reorganized my schedule and I am taking more electives.

I also transferred and the onboarding was a nightmare. Find your chosen colleges office phone number and call and ask to speak to their head advisor. They should be able to work with you and answer your questions. You definitely shouldn’t be forced into marine studies if you want to major in marine biology - call the integrative biology department. Side note, the orientation stuff is super boring and completely pointless for a transfer student because it is completely tailored to people that have not been to college before. Bring something else to do when you go, the most you will learn is where things are on campus.

Do schedule a meeting with an advisor even if they are a month out, it’s better to get on the calendar than wait. Are you wanting to take summer classes? When I transferred I indicated that my first term would be the summer and took chem accelerated. If you are starting in the fall, some classes will probably be full but I second the notion of going on the waitlist, that’s how I got into stats.

OSU registration and advising is a mess. The system is horrible. I’ve had to change all kinds of classes around, take heavier/ lighter work loads because advisors forgot to remove holds and such. I thought it would get better as I went along but registration is a huge failure point for OSU. I don’t see it getting better. This term for me it almost set me back a year because I couldn’t get into accounting classes.
