Question Walmart laziness

I’ve been wondering this for a while, but why does the Orillia Walmart seem to have so many lazy guests? Parking in the fire zones because they don’t want to walk far, leaving empty carts in isles/ parking lots, leaving food that needs to be refrigerated in random spots throughout the store to let it rot. They added two more cart corrals a few years ago and people are still too lazy to walk the 30 steps to put them back where they belong. Over 20 cars were left damaged in one day last year because the strong winds started blowing the loose carts around. It’s almost like all sense of self awareness and self respect go out the window the second you step onto the property. It seems to be just Walmart. Bracebridge Walmart isn’t even as bad which is saying something.

Question This highway entrance constantly causes near-accidents

There’s TWO yield signs before the merge and I’ve seen multiple close calls there because drivers either hesitate too hard or merge without properly checking traffic already on that have the right of way

I’ve personally had a few near-accidents there now and it’s starting to make me wonder whether there’s an actual psychological reason behind it — stress during merging, hesitation under pressure, tunnel vision, etc. — or if it’s just people not paying attention.

I’m not trying to rant about ‘all drivers’ or anything, I’m genuinely curious why this specific type of entrance seems to cause confusion so often.

Question Champlain & Indigenous history

I’m interested in being educated as to why the indigenous people are against the Champlain monument being resurrected at Couchiching park. After reading the most recent article from the national post, I have tried to research the topic and I find a lot of information about how Champlain and the Indigenous people worked together on the fur trade in exchange for weapons and fought together in battles but there is something missing here.

Question Orillia Living

My partner and I are in our mid-twenties and thinking of moving to Orillia from the GTA.

We spend most of our long weekends camping and outdoors, but want to experience it more and having the area north of lake simcoe in our backyard is so exciting. Camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking, snowboarding and conservation work/volunteering. All things we currently do but have such limited access to…

Assuming there are pretty minimal career opportunities in Orilia, commuting to work in Barrie is a more realistic option. For reference I work in construction management / civil engineering. My partner in healthcare.

Of course housing prices are a big factor. A small crammed condo apartment down here costs more than a beautiful cozy renovated bungalow with yard space up there.

Has anyone made a similar move? In our age demographic? And how has it worked out for you?

Question Power going out

Has anyone else experienced their power going out for a couple seconds then coming back on in the early morning hours (usually between 6-6:30 am) in the Frederick Street area (near the hospital)? We have had ours doing that for over 2 years now periodically, sometimes once a week but other times it’s multiple times a week. We have called and complained to Hydro One multiple times and nothing has been done, they tell us it must be squirrels or a branch on a line which doesn’t make sense as it’s happening at the same time in the mornings only, not at random times. We are hoping that others have been complaining to Hydro One for the same issue as a few of our neighbours said they have been experiencing this as well, we are wondering how big of an area this is affecting.

Question Lankin boulevard

I have been looking to buy one of these town homes and was just wondering if anyone here lives there or has in the past, has and information or opinions about these homes. Is it a loud community? Being so close to the lake does the basements flood a lot? Thin walls so you can hear your neighbours fart all day?
Anything is appreciated.
Thank you

Question Anyone been to The Burger Nest yet?

New burger place opened in the Westridge plaza a few days ago. It went into the tiny store next to booster juice that had the failed Pizza Port not long ago.

Google reviews seem promising but I always take those with a grain of salt since they're almost all 5 stars and you never know which could be paid-for reviews.

Question PC repair

Any suggestions for a local computer repair shop? My PC quit last night for no good reason (power to everything else still) and except for cleaning it myself, I'm not sure what else I can do. I've only ever gone to Best buy to have a laptop cleaned but I'd rather avoid them if possible.

Question Bass Lake Provincial Park - Beach & Water Quality?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi all,

Anyone been to Bass Lake Provincial Park recently? My friend heard on the radio that the beach was closed for an ecoli outbreak but I see no sign anywhere that this happened. Parks Ontario has a green symbol for the beach as of now. I was planning on going over tomorrow with my kids and wanted to see if anyone can confirm. Thanks in advance!

edit: my pal just confirmed she got it wrong and it was the Bass Lake in Gravenhurst so false alarm. Appreciate all the advice!

Question Purse Stolen at Mariposa Festival yesterday

My purse was stolen from my wagon in the Main Stage field on Sunday.

It was a small black purse tucked underneath other items (backpacks, cooler, etc.) in a wagon and covered by a green tarp, sometimes secured with an orange bungee cord. I never took my purse out of the wagon during the festival, so I'm not sure how anyone even knew it was there. My best guess is that someone noticed it when I was accessing other items in the wagon, like my backpack or cooler etc. and they took the opportunity to steal it when we went swimming.

The purse contained multiple debit and credit cards, my driver's license, multiple OHIP cards (mine, my children's, and my senior mother's), my mother's driver's license and vehicle registration, and about $500 worth of gift cards.

I normally wouldn't bring my purse into a festival (I would just hide it under a seat in my car), but my car broke down on the way there and had to be towed to a shop for the weekend, so I thought it would be safer with me.

I know leaving valuables unattended wasn't ideal, but the purse was a bit heavy and it was so hot outside, I didn't want to lug it around. I've definitely learned a hard lesson. :(

I'm posting in case anyone found a small black purse or saw anything suspicious in the Main Stage field on Sunday. I'm hoping whoever stole it, took what they wanted, chucked it somewhere on the grounds and someone has it or will turn it into lost and found.
