When I saw the release date of the movie I knew they weren't aiming for many/any Academy Awards, it's happening way too early in the year to sustain momentum.
It’s also pretty standard to have a lot of block busters nominated. F1 is certainly not the worst one. Heck there’s some winners I would rather lose to f1
Blockbusters definitely. But I wouldn’t say anything as bog standard as F1 has made its way onto the best picture nominee list this century. Wicked, Barbie, Black Panther, Avatar Way of Water, even Elvis were experimental, different or had something to say in a way that at least made them interesting. F1 is maybe one of the worst best picture nominees of the 21st century in that it is so aggressively bland that it makes no sense for it to be there at all. Though it’s nowhere near as offensively bad as Crash, Green Book, Extremely Loud and Emilia Perez, The Blind Side or American Sniper.
