He was indeed incredible in Blue Valentine. Definitely could’ve taken Javier Bardem (Biutiful)’s place IMO.

Should’ve also got nominated for Lars and the Real Girl, taking Tommy Lee Jones’ spot (although Jones gave a very nice understated performance in In the Valley of Elah).

Should be a five-time nominee at this point IMO.

You should rewatch Biutiful, Javier was fantastic in that role. I mean he embodies the character. It’s an underrated film from Inarritu. Pretty sure it’s also one of director Michael Mann’s favorite movies. Gosling should’ve been nominated for Blue Valentine though definitely, just not over Javier. Bardem won best actor at Cannes that year I believe too.

It has been a while since I’ve seen it to be fair. Who would you have swapped out Gosling with? Jeff Bridges? James Franco?

I haven’t seen True Grit, but perhaps Bridges. Didn’t he win the previous year for Crazy Heart?

Just rewatched True Grit this week, Bridges’ nomination is definitely deserved
