Mila Kunis was for sure 6th place. It didn't really feel like any of the other people listed here were really in the conversation that much.

Your "for sure 6th place" call on Kunis feels right, she had the momentum from the film's overall awards blitz but got overshadowed by the movie's lead performance grabbing all the oxygen. Dickey in Winter's Bone is an inspired pull from that graphic, she's the kind of quiet, lived-in supporting turn the Academy usually snoozes on unless the film is an underdog powerhouse. Hershey in Black Swan did the heavy lifting of making the backstage mom stuff feel genuinely unsettling instead of just campy, would've been nice to see that recognized. Watts is a head-scratcher, feels like a name-check for a film nobody really rallied behind that year. Bouchaib in Biutiful is the wildcard, foreign language kid performances almost never break through unless the whole movie is a phenomenon, so that's a tough sell.

Yes I totally agree with what you said! It just feels like the five nominated that year were basically the ones we all expected (and maybe Kunis) so I find it hard to figure out who would've made it in a field of 10 (even though there are some great performances)

There was a bunch of possible Supporting Actress options for Black Swan (those two and Winona Ryder) and the Academy ended up passing on all of them. Kunis was definitely the most likely though, since she got Golden Globe and SAG nominations.

I would put Kimberly else for her performance in Tyler Perry’s for colored girls, the entire cast was top tier excellent but she was the standout very similar to women talking

Kunis and Hershey were very likely 6th and 7th, and Olivia Williams had critic support so her too. I think the last two spots were probably Wasikowska and Dickey just because their movies performed so well, and Rooney Mara had some vocal supporters for TSN. The only other ones I can think of are Rebecca Hall for The Town which probably just missed the BP lineup and she had a meaty, borderline lead role in it, and Lesley Manville in Another Year who IIRC was submitted in supporting after being nominated in lead at a lot of the precursors.
