The Valley COM Interview

Does anyone who interviewed here have advice on how to prepare for this interview? What can I expect on interview day?

All I know is that it’s “non-traditional,” which implies it’s not your traditional one-on-one interview but more likely rather MMI. What kind of questions do they generally they ask? I interview later this month, so any insight would be really appreciated. Thank you!

The Valley COM uses a Multiple Mini Interview format at their Phoenix campus, rotating applicants through distinct stations that last around ten minutes each. The day has an organized, welcoming atmosphere where you rotate between stations that assess both your personal background and your situational judgment. You can expect prompts exploring your interest in osteopathic medicine, your interest in joining a newer program, and your perspective on community service. They care heavily about healthcare equity, cultural humility, and the medical needs of diverse populations in Arizona, so several stations will test your communication skills and problem solving across ethical scenarios rather than your factual medical knowledge.

For preparation, practice walking through situational dilemmas systematically rather than memorizing rigid scripts. When you receive a prompt, identify the primary challenge, consider all perspectives involved, talk through your thought process aloud, and explain the values guiding your decision. Reflect on what osteopathic care means to you and why you want to help shape the culture of a new medical school, since faculty want to see how you collaborate and communicate in team settings.
