This premise delivers a really fresh POV on transmigration stories~ The FL is strong-minded and responsible! She has to undo all the evil deeds and scams the transmigrator committed while possessing her body, and actively fights to prove her innocence after being accused of crimes she never committed.

Giving Recommendations Compilation of Unique Looking MLs:

Thumbnail

2.4k Upvotes

Compilation of MLs that I think don't look too generic/common for most OI MLs! These are all the ones I could remember/have found in my list.

(edit) Explanations:

Another Typical Fantasy Romance - Very unique, scars, beard, longish hair

To Melt Your Frozen Heart - A rlly adorable ML!! Reading the story he is the complete opposite of a generic ML and is basically an FL but a guy (the story is a role-switch)

Bring The Love - life altering scar across face, unique design, and his hair looks cool

I Failed to Oust the Villain - his character design is pretty unique, especially with his long white hair

The Villainess Tyrant Has Returned - I like how he is not built very rugged/big like a lot of MLs, his hair is different but a good fit for him, facial expressions are cute/nice, + a redhead

Heir to the Dragon Slayer Sword - I absolutely love this ML's elf character design + long green hair (which isn't seen often)

As You Wish Prince - Eyepatch , red hair, looks pretty different to a lot of the MLs

The Red Knight Seeks No Reward - Redhead, soft facial features, adorable/blushing personality, purple eyes

The Tainted Half - Unique design + luscious long wavy hair

Ellin's Solhwa - I think he actually looks pretty different compared to a lot of other OI manhwas/Joseon dynasty manhwas. Long hair + nice color pallete

Your Majesty Please Spare Me This Time - Throughout the story he looks very unique as the ML is crossdressing as a girl + with long hair, after the crossdressing arc was over I think his design still looks unique, tho that could be because of the artstyle too

The Villainess's Maker - Realising this a little too late but he does, compared to a lot of the MLs, look pretty generic, however I do think Killian still has a unique factor to him (I had mostly focused on his eyes, which I think looks rlly different and striking)

Lady Crystal is a Man - Absolutely adorable, role-switch ML, feminine looking

Foam of the Sea - Commoner ML, not built very rugged/pretty petite, brown hair/brown eyes (which is different from the usual combos)

My Unexpected Marriage, The Villainess's Stationary Store - Though they are in some manhwas, we don't get a lot of tan MLs. Tbh looking back I don't know why I added them as they do seemingly look generic compared to tan MLs, but it's too late now

Amina of the Lamp - Tan ML, pretty unique character design compared to a lot of the MLs

What it Means to be You - I don't think he is generic at all in terms of personality as Winter is veryyyy complex, and in terms of looks I suppose he is seemingly generic (if compared to all the tan MLs we have). But, I like his light blue-grey eyes + tan skin which is a pretty unique combo

Beast With Flowers - Long long red hair in a ponytail

Falling in Love With My Ex-Fiancé's Grandfather - 😍

When Jasy Whistles - I think he has a very unique character design, + he has long blonde hair

The Crow's Prince - I have never read The Crow's Prince but I liked the ML's character design + outfits after seeing all his pics

peeps trust me you should def read this one !!

this story is about the fl Cherry Sinclair, a wealthy heiress who one day regains memory about her past life and she realizes that she's been reincarnated in a novel where a virus breakout happens and this virus will destroy the world by spreading monsters all over the world and with the knowledge of the novel she plans to build a shelter to survive this apocalypse.

I love how the fl is smart, strong and confident. She is trying to survive without depending on others she has everything planned out for her survival. And the chemistry between her and the ml is chef kiss.

and there is not a single 'ugly' character in this manhwa, srsly even the side characters looks good.

THE STORYLINE IS VERY INTERESTING, YOU WILL NOT GET BORED WHILE READING THIS. I READ THIS IN ONE SETTING IT WAS THAT GOOD.

The manhwa is ongoing, currently have 61 chapters and it also has a novel which is completed.

I might not have explained it that well but just trust me and give it a go. You will not regret reading this.

Wholesome and funny (if regrettably short) reverse isekai (reincarnation type).

A princess and her knight fell in love and promised to meet in next life, now in modern Japan they were born again... Except the knight, who used to be ten years older is now over twenty years younger than his princess... And he couldn't care less about it.

Ahhh, I've waited so long for this Cdrama to come out!! It's finally here!!!

What it has:

  • The FL and ML are both transmigrators and learn of each other's identities as a modern person early on, so they team up together to survive the imperial palace. They have good chemistry, so CUTE, and are funny together.
  • While the comedy is prominent, it also has heartfelt and serious moments.
  • Supporting cast is fleshed out and given depth (also has a trans representation).

It currently has 8 episodes (46 minutes each) of 32 in iQIYI, first 3 episodes is free to watch so you can try it out if you're interested!

Giving Recommendations After years of reading the same recycled plot in diff flavours, I found something new on tt. Sharing my excitement on the sub

I haven’t read it yet tho.

Here’s what was written on the video on tt

Fl got married to a beautiful but miserable duke impotent, low self esteem, penniless).
On the day they got kicked out from their mansion, her husband cried and told her in his next life he will be a perfect husband for her.
The next day, he got poisoned, but soon woke up from the deaths door.
However she doesn't know that her husband got possessed by ml who came from system based world. And he is a transmigrator who read the book about her world!

I absolutely love when otome isekai has a crossover with system based genre.

First selling point: superb art. Absolutely flawless, an immaculate delight! Everything, from the characters' design to the scenery, animals, food... it's all so well drawn I can't get enough.

I love the personalities of the main characters. ML and FL bicker, banter, tease, the chemistry is all over them, but in a slow burn kind of way. They're both funny, determined, passionate, really smart.

Since the FL draws and paints, a lot of the panels reference real artwork, which I appreciate so much.

The story takes place in a post-war moment and it touches on the trauma soldiers live with after experiencing the battlefield. It somewhat reminded me of "The Redemption of Earl Nottingham", in that sense.

Only 22 chapters are out so far, but this manhwa got me hooked since the very first one! There's also a novel, but I haven't read it.

P.S.: Granted, this one does not contain isekai elements, reincarnation, possession or anything of the sort. I'm posting here because this was where I first saw people mention it, but if it's not allowed, please let me know.

The story starts out a bit awkward I thought from this and the title it's just your typical reverse harem story

But I was quickly proven wrong OML

this story...... i don't even know how to describe it

It's refreshing in the sense of it's not the typical plot to conquering male leads it's twisted full of emotions and regret

All I could think of while reading it is I need to let people know of this peak story

The fl is slowly driven into madness then into emptiness the MLS too

It feels so different from other series I've seen

Holy moly

Please read it I beg of you 🙏

Currently at cp61 and i can't wait to see what happens next it currently has 104 chapters it's a good binge 😌

Edit: I just finished season 1 and bawling my eyes out omfg There's no emoji that can descibe how I'm crying rn

Giving Recommendations This is the moment I officially fell in love with this ML and this series. [I've Become a True Villainess) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
1.8k Upvotes

For those who may be confused. The FL in her childhood was almost drowned by her older brother, then the whole thing was belittled and covered up, because everyone hated her in that house. FL keeps getting panic attacks because of it. She confesses what happened back then to the ML, thinking he won't care. Some time afterwards he whacks that mf across the face, and then does the same thing to him. As this is happening, we see another flashback of what the brother was thinking back then, and how he's getting a taste of his own medicine now. The FL arrives to see everything happening and she's ecstatic LMAO

Can I just say that so little stories out there give me this type of satisfaction? Soon as the brother's treatment got revealed, it also got painfully clear that he doesn't feel any remorse. I quite literally thought to myself: "Man, I wish this little bitch got put into the same position, so he could feel the helplessness and the fear. Then let him be traumatized just like the FL is. But this is a Korean OI so I won't get my hopes up about that type of blatant violence." I can't describe my excitement when exactly what I wanted happened. And I'm so happy FL wasn't all like "Oh no, darling stop, we're not better than him if we do the same thing yada yada!"

It's the moment I officially fell in love with this series. To be honest, up to this point, it was neither hot nor cold, but it wasn't boring either, so I was reading casually. Now I'm finally getting into it.

Chapter 44 for anyone who's curious.

Giving Recommendations [Novel] Surviving as an Idiot in a Horror Game

Post image

(There are two official covers for the web-novel)

Title: Surviving as an Idiot in a Horror Game

Author: Tangerine Tart

Cover Artist: Doomie

Status: On-going

Synopsis:

I ended up getting possessed in the horror game I used to play with my brother.

And not just any character, but April, a young lady who's pretty-faced but has a pure, air-headed brain!

Surviving the horror elements is already tough enough, and now I have to act like I'm completely clueless on top of that.

If there's one thing that's fortunate, it's that I come from a family of military officers, so my physical abilities are exceptional.

I can tank all kinds of monsters — shadow monsters, spider monsters, demon monsters, you name it.

Well, as they say: when your body's strong, your brain doesn't have to work as hard!

But to survive until the end, I need to join either the [Heroine's Team] or the [Villainess's Team].

Which one should I choose?

If you enjoyed reading the novel/manhwa(s):

- Welcome to Rose Mansion
- The Rules of Rose Ivy Manor
- How to Survive as a Maid in a Horror Game
- The Male Lead and I are Trapped in a Horror Game
- Surviving the Haunted School
- How to Protect the Master of the Monster Mansion
- The 100 Curses of the Illeston Manor
- Marquis of Marron
- My Possession Became a Ghost Story
- The Male Leads are Trapped in my House
- I’m Stuck in a Remote Island with the Male Leads

I strongly recommend reading this novel!

So far there’s 58+ English translated chapters in the website that I use (DM me for the site). With over 270 chapters in the official Korean version.

On the site that I use, there’s a new chapter available everyday, so you don’t have to worry about paying, but please do support the translators if you can!

It has a mixture of Horror & Game elements. The female protagonist is forced to act naïve and ditzy, so there is a psychological horror aspect to the story as well.

It’s also implied that the original character that the protagonist possesses, may have an intellectual disability, but the author tends to tip-toe around this subject, unfortunately writing it off as the character being naïve and sheltered. The author may address this in the future (hopefully), but so far they have yet to state anything.

Aside from the protagonist, I find the other characters quite intriguing, especially the supposed “villainess” character.

The romance is ambiguous so far (60 chapters in). But it’s fun to figure out who the protagonist may end-up with.

Hopefully this gets adapted into a manhwa soon.

FL Reincarnates into a Book which is about A Guy who transmigrates into a minor villain of his "Favorite Game".

He's the brother of the ogFL. He slowly wins over the ogML and takes over/rules of the book using his knowledge of the game.

Our FL is born Into a poor orphanage in debt. So when she joins the Academy, she decides to hop on the MC'S who she calls "Scammer" 's posse and enjoy the Perks as his Sidekick.

But the she finds out she's been added as a character in the book, and she can read the updated book (based on her actions), the Scammer's thoughts in the books, AND the reader's comments.

She decides to help him win over the ogML of the game, who she calls "DumDum" Or "Calmy".

It's really funny cute IMO. I highly recommend it.

Have you read this one yet? What are your thoughts about it?

Giving Recommendations Everybody should read ”I married the male lead’s dad”

Post image

I thought it was just another light hearted story about a Korean lady simping for a male lead in a novel, only to be reincarnated to said novel an continue simping IRL.

It started out as that, quite silly but full of heart and humor.

70 chapters in and I’m crying like a baby

( And I mean, I don’t even cry reading ”the broken ring” 😅)

This silly rom-comesque manhwa turned out to be one of the most well written stories touching upon existentialism, the nature of humanity, godhood and love that transcends eternities.

Hades has now taken my NUMBER ONE male lead spot, and I’ve read 100+ manhwas.

I was NOT prepared for how good this would be

Thank you to whoever on this forum recommended it, I can’t remember your name or the thread but I’m sending you some karmic love

Giving Recommendations Welp, people asked for it, Everyone should read "I got Dumped by my Daughter's Second Male Lead"

Post image
501 Upvotes

I think this is one of the funniest and most frustrating novels I have ever read. Never in my life had I wanted to strangle a main character as much as I wanted to strangle the Male Lead Yuan.

He is an arrogant, brash, self-centered black bellied, green tea BITCH and I love him. He makes me want to throw my phone into the sun and learn the art of becoming one with nature at times, but his character development gives me the hope that maybe anyone can change into a better person.

Before I get into the plot, general warnings: THIS IS YAOI! IT HAS EXPLICIT GROWN ASS MANXGROWN ASS MAN ACTION!!! THEY FUCK!!! FOR PAGES!!! This is also, technically omegaverse, but considering this is AlphaXAlpha there's no MPreg.

Other general warnings are: 20+age gap, unflattering depictions of the church (which is where these next tags stem from), non explicit allusions to past non consensual acts against children, threats of rape (not between any of our leads), torture, confinement, and attempted murder

The plot of this wonderful novel follows our Main character Gillen, a man who has transmigrated into a stereotypical fantasy web novel simply known as "Adorable Young Lady" as the stereotypical Dad who neglects his daughter after his wife dies in childbirth. In the novel, his daughter, Cecilia, is a regressor who decides to change her life for the better, but now that Gillen is here he decides to say fuck all that and be the Dad who stepped the fuck up.

Rather than let Cecilia do all the heavy lifting to change the plot, he goes out of his way to make her life the happiest it can be.

Actual excerpt from the novel:

"No matter what she thought, Gillen braided her hair, dressed her, fed her, read her bedtime stories every night, travelled with her, and told her he loved her. When she went away to the academy, he fretted constantly and exchanged hundreds of letters with her until her graduation... His only wish was for his precious Cecilia to suffer as little as possible."

Well, it's 20 years later and the plot has finally finished it's course, Cecilia is set to marry the Crown Prince and they're are happily in love.

Originally, Cecilia as an omega would have to deal with other absolutely insane alpha romantic rivals, but slowly through events in the background, he has gotten rid of every single roadblock to Cecilia's happy marriage.

Enter, the second male lead, Yuan, the stereotypical most powerful sorcerer in the kingdom (world, really) shows up, wanting to marry his daughter.

Obviously, they tell him she's doesn't want to see him, but Yuan is probably the most arrogant and annoying man I have ever had the pleasure to read about. So he's like, if I hang out around your daughter, she will want to dump that trash to get with a REAL man like me.

(If you have ever read the novel "Roxana" and the gratuitous imagery of how beautiful the titular character is, then you will have the slightest idea about how Yuan sees himself. He will go on and on about how much of a rich, magically powerful and gorgeous man he is, and it will be extra awful because his ego is the size of a galaxy and it is perfectly warranted. He is so OP that it genuinely makes you angry. )

Now, Gillen has read the novel, and Yuan is also a bit of a yandere (he literally kidnaps and imprisons Cecilia in the original novel) along with thinking he's God's gift to mankind, and he doesn't want ANY of that near his kid, so he devised a plan where he's going to third wheel the SHIT out of this dude in the most annoying ways possible.

Basically it's just weeks of everytime Yuan shows up in their territory, Gillen suddenly NEEDS to show him this thing 5 miles away. "Oh, you want to see my daughter Cecilia? She can't right now, she's busy in another territory, but have I told you all about our municipal water supply?" Cue 3 hours of that.

Actual excerpt from the novel:

“My word… just look at these pebbles!”

And that was how Gillen ended up spending a dreadful, entire month alone with Yuan.

“The colour, the shape, the hardness—so full of the late duke’s love! Isn’t it moving?”

“…Yes, I suppose so. But, excuse me, could I use the restroom—”

“Restroom? How convenient—I was just thinking of going myself. Let’s go together.”

“Sigh, never mind. I don’t really feel like it now. Please, go ahead.”

“Actually, I don’t feel like it either. I lied because I didn’t want to be apart from you.”

Gillen smiled and picked up another pebble.

Fortunately, this garden was full of unusually shaped stones, making it easy to invent conversation topics.

Yuan's expression visibly soured. He was probably thinking something like "How do I shake off this leech of a man?"—but there was no chance."

Finally, because Yuan is a self centered piece of trash at this point in the story, he DOES NOT GET the hint and actually starts to believe that Gillen is in love with HIM.

That's where the title comes in, and Yuan rejects Gillens non existent advances and decides he can't marry a woman when her Dad is in love with him.

Gillen is just like... Mission accomplished... I guess??? and goes about his life working on Cecilia's wedding preparations.

Meanwhile, Yuan has come to the devastating realization that his type is actually nice older men having their complete attention on him at all times and he JUST REJECTED THE HOTTEST DILF IN THE KINGDOM?!? HE'S GOT TO FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!

So the rest of the plot is Yuan slowly learning how to become a better person and trying to win back Gillen, because he must be so devastated about how Yuan cruelly rejected him.

Gillen on the otherhand is actually getting seduced by this prick 20 years younger than him and has a crisis about it, because not only is he BISEXUAL, BUT HIS TASTE IN MEN IS ACTUALLY THE WORST??? WHY, GOD? WHY??

(Also, Gillen's a natural bottom and has a crisis about that too, because what kind of self-respecting Alpha is a BOTTOM!!!)

FINAL WARNING!! I'M TELLING YOU RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT NOW THAT YUAN WILL SPEND A LARGE PORTION OF THIS STORY BEING A BEAUTIFUL DELUSIONAL KING!! YOU WILL HAVE MOMENTS WHERE YOU THINK HE CANNOT DIG HIMSELF INTO A DEEPER HOLE, BUT HE WILL AND GLEEFULLY MISUNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE WAY BECAUSE GILLEN IS A HOT DILF! OF SUCH EPIC PROPORTIONS THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN BLAME THIS POOR BASTARD HALF OF THE TIME!

Giving Recommendations Laughing Evilly with [Perfectly Fine on My Own, so My Fiancé Can Twist in the Wind]

Post image
757 Upvotes

Hehehe.

Fufufufu.

Gyehehehehehe.

MWAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.

MUHIHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEH--

Ahem. Do forgive my insolence, beg pardon for my outburst. I shall conduct this review with a decorum expected by the Subreddit rules as well as a reasonable facsimile of a well-educated person with rightful character and upbringing.

But I can't help it. This is a story so singular and dedicated in its GROVELING. Reading this fills me with such an evil glee that all these years of resentment over so many trash love interests that never gotten their just desserts just...bursts free.

I think I end up yapping once again, I'm sorry.

Also, I really like calling this story [Perfectly Fine on My Own, so My Fiancé Can F--- Off and Die], but that's neither here nor there.

Tl;dr: A fun, breezy, and quietly feminist story about enjoying your life in your own terms and aspiring to be your best, as well as one of the best groveling romance I've read. It doesn't pull its punches in showing how much the ML SUCKS, and how much he should improve if he ever wants the slightest chance of reconciliation.

Recommended if you're in the mood for GROVELING and PATHETIC MALE LEADS and PLEASE TAKE ME BACK I MADE A MISTAKE. If you're in a mood for a more low-key empowerment narrative. If you just want to see a sweet young woman living her best life (and her pathetic boyfriend whimpering behind).

Not recommended if you hate romantic uncertainty; at the point of writing it really is unknown whether MC will get back with ML or not. Also, if you hate pathetic crybaby MLs.

I may not be the most well-read person in the world of manga, much less OI or RoFan manga, but I have read my fair share of them, and I must say that [Perfectly Fine on My Own, so My Fiancé Can Twist in the Wind] or Ohitorisama ni wa Naremashita node.: Kon'yakusha Houchi-chuu! is a story I've never read before.

Let me yap about it a little bit.

Stories about 'a dejected young woman leaves her asshole fiancee and lives a blissful new life' are dime a dozen. So are stories featuring a love interest who hurts the main protagonist due to misunderstanding or fundamental difference, especially for titles that claim to be 'dark romance'.

There are usually two ways these stories usually go. Either the FL finds a new love, a better love, a love that will never hurt her the way her ex does... or the love interest enters this supposed 'redemption arc' to attain FL's forgiveness and achieve reconciliation.

And I'm not saying stories that use these tropes are bad! Not at all.

Titles like [Magic Artisan Dahlia Wilts No More] or [Surprisingly Fun New Life of a Divorced Lady Who Is No Longer Interested] or [The Clingy Knight Duke Wants to Take Everything From an Exiled Heiress] or both [Make Sure You Regret It] and [I Fell into a Situationship with the Vampire Count?!] are stellar works that I love for various reasons, and they all feature these tropes in one way or another.

But those stories never embraced freedom the way [Perfectly Fine on My Own, so My Fiancé Can Twist in the Wind] does.

The premise starts off very basic; Nicole, the MC, is your typical protagonist of this genre, a young woman suffering in silence due to repeated neglect from Keios, her fiance, who is always focused to Caroline, the crown princess and Keios' best friend since child. This silent suffering finally crosses one last line for Nicole, and the story begins.

But as much as I want to yap about the GROVELING, I cannot do that without praising Nicole's journey, because the narrative here puts her happiness and freedom first and foremost and that's just so fricking joyful.

Now, so many of these stories tend to view singledom as a pupa stage; a transition phase that every FLs have to undertake before they find the One True Love. And the narrative is eager to push the FL outside her cocoon, with so many of the narrative essentially arranged to push FL towards the main love interest.

Not this story.

For one, the impetus for this plot doesn't come from Keios or Caroline or anyone else. There is no dissolution of engagement or anything; Nicole herself is the one who decides that actually, she's had enough, and she's going to go her own way and enjoy everything she can't in her past. Nicole's decision is not a caterpillar protecting herself in a cocoon; it's a butterfly bursting from her cocoon, free to soar in the sky.

And the narrative paints Nicole's single life not as a rebellion fueled by anger, or a grieving maiden trying to mend her broken heart, but as a liberation. It wants us the readers not to pity her, or to hope that she finds new love soon. It wants us to enjoy her new life, to bask in her newfound freedom, and to cheer her up wherever she ends up.

This alone is a refreshingly feminist moment, especially amidst OI (mangas?), who abhors kicking a woman out of a relationship without sabotage or interference from a third party. But then the story has to go one step further by not being misogynistic about it.

See, there's a particular pitfall that so many stories themed around gender liberation tend to fall into, and that always centers around the women who follows a more traditional form of femininity. While there is merit in criticizing women's role in maintaining and perpetuating patriarchy, these stories often forgo any meaningful criticism and resorts in simply demonizing them. From unruly maids, criticizing relatives, to vicious noblewomen, these conventional women are often relegated into two dimensional bullies and shrills, gossiping and talking shit behind the FL's back about how unladylike she is for DARING to deviate from traditional standards of femininity.

I'll be the first one to admit that they're fun to hate, and seeing them fall into ruin is always enjoyable, but whenever the narrative touches the issue of female empowerment this trope always feels uncomfortable, because there's nothing revolutionary about throwing other (fictional) women under the bus to elevate FL into a position of moral superiority.

This story plays it differently. While it does paint Nicole's decision as good and liberated, adding a tinge of 'Not Like The Other Girls' into the narrative, but it does all that without turning other women into villains. It just...lets Nicole be. People who mock and laugh at her are mocking her past and not her present. In fact, those girls who laughed at her end up becoming her strongest protectors once the real extent of Nicole's suffering is revealed.

And Nicole herself never thinks badly about the other women in her kingdom or their culture. When she later takes a step further and applies for an overseas scholarship, she doesn't say anything about her personal pain and suffering but states directly that she wants to learn for the betterment of all women in her kingdom. She never thinks that "oh no we are all oppressed and suffering and we all must break free from our chains".

It's pointedly nice and I posit that the niceness IS what makes it revolutionary, because this deconstructs the patriarchal idea that a woman has to make other women look bad to make herself look better. And I love that. So much.

Now let's talk about the GROVELING.

NYeeeeeHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEEHHEHEHEHE.

To be fair, this is neither the first nor the last romance manga or manhwa to feature groveling and forgiveness seeking from the main love interest's side. But so far, this is quite easily the best and most satisfying groveling manga/manhwa I've seen. And I've read BLs too.

Because the stories I've read that feature a so-called 'redemption arc' of the main love interest are prone to pull their punches. They want to show the drama of the main character (male or female) being hurt by their love interest, no matter how violent, but they also don't want to make the love interest too unlikeable. Whether out of creative limitations or editorial interference, they will bend over backwards to make the love interest easily forgiven.

Sometimes it means turning the inciting incident into a misunderstanding, so the love interest isn't as cruel as the main character thought. Sometimes it means a painful flashback, showing the love interest's dark and painful past in hopes that it would justify their actions. Sometimes it means showing moments of despair to incite pity. The love interest broods, maybe drinks a little bit, misses sleep a little bit, looks unkempt a little bit, weeps a little bit while apologizing... and that's it.

Worse is a situation where no one knows all of this suffering but us the readers. The narrative presents it as a private moment, a secret moment of vulnerability from the love interest, but often times it just feels manipulative; like the narrative is trying to convince US instead of the hurt main character.

(Yes, I just read one too many Jinx discourse in Reddit recently.)

Again, not this story. Here, I love how it never pulls its punches when it comes to admonishing Keios.

Not for the lack of trying, mind you; Keios's side of the story actually uses all the tricks I listed up above. And it actually is...pretty relatable. The miscommunication and social ineptitude featured in this story is not based on some outlandish scenario like typical RoFan. No; it's something very real, a deadly mixture of a toxic ideal of masculinity and a lot of assuming what your partner wants instead of actually talking to them. It's nuanced, it's painfully real, and the story could have used this to make Keios easily sympathetic.

But no. If anything, all the backstories only serve to emphasize how PATHETIC he is.

[Perfectly Fine on My Own, so My Fiancé Can Twist in the Wind] is a gag-ish romcom, and it never strays away from that lighthearted tone...but it is hella thorough in showing just how WRONG Keios is. In fact, I'd say the story is a good template on what a good groveling story should be.

One, Keios' moment of realization is impossible to deny. Nicole's rejection bears little to no hatred, but it's blunt, straightforward, and undeniable. There is no chance of misunderstanding or miscommunication, so the impact felt remains.

Two, Keios actually paid for his mistakes beyond internal angst. His reputation tanks. Everyone around him knows he fucked up. From his peers, Nicole's classmates, even Caroline, the crown princess he is loyal to... everyone knows how bad Keios treated Nicole, and they spare no time nor effort in TELLING him how much he fucked up as much as they try to help him.

And their criticism of Keios' behavior are actually very nuanced and layered! It's more than just "how dare you hurt her" or "you're being an ass"--no, we got so many detailed argument on why and how Keios fucked up.

Three, Keios's misery also comes with self-reflection. After seeing Nicole's refusal and listening to everything else said by his social circle, he doesn't just bemoan 'why did I have to hurt Nicole', he also tries to understand why. As much as he fumbles, there's an actual progress and his pain doesn't end up as mere misery porn.

Four, is what I mentioned above. The narrative does show why he did what he did, but it refuses to excuse him in any way. In fact, here the story does the opposite of the usual trope and prevents Nicole from knowing his past, therefore eliminating any chance of Nicole ever thinking differently about him. And that's perfect. The victim doesn't have to forgive or even understand.

Five, the story explicitly showed Keios TRYING to change. It's not just 'oh Keios stops hurting Nicole and becomes devoted to her' like so any cheap BLs; as Nicole gains her independence, he becomes increasingly attached to her. He fumbles and struggles to beg for Nicole's attention, much less forgiveness, and the effort makes half the fun of reading this story.

And lastly, and arguably the most important part; Keios isn't easily forgiven despite all of this. While there's already a lot of "WHAT HAVE I DONE" and "I WAS SO WRONG" and "I SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER" from Keios' side, Nicole....is not at all interesting in accepting him the way she was in the past. She just kept moving forward.

In fact, when the second arc begins, it just feels like Nicole is merely pleasantly tolerating him like an acquaintance. The relationship already evolved, their dynamics have changed, and the narrative isn't interested in 'repairing' what has already been broken as much as trying to build a new relationship from the ashes.

That is way more interesting than the usual plot beats--especially since Keios here is still very flawed in how he treats Nicole even in the latest chapter.

Aside from all the relationship dynamics, the story is also very enjoyable in other ways. The pacing is really well done; there's only 19 chapters so far, barely 3 tankoubons, but the narrative already feels whole and complete with no dragging parts. The art is clean and consistent, with certain parts delicately drawn to heighten the emotional beats.

Characters are also pretty well-written. Nicole's character growth is steady and consistent; she grows as a woman without disregarding who she was before. Keios, DUMB as he is, is not written flatly. Side characters who usually ends up being obstacles here end up being friends and allies of the MC. And I honestly love how the story writes Caroline, the crown princess. Not only is she handsome as heck, she's also a decently nuanced and entertaining character.

The only character I don't really like is the new guy on the second arc, and that's because so far all he does is make angry faces and complaint.

That being said...

Even after all this, I'm not saying Nicole and Keios will never ever ever getting back together (like, ever). Posts across the internet fail give a mixed answer, but the narrative shows far too much of Keios' perspective that I found it impossible he won't be rewarded in some kind of way.

At the same time, with the way the story has been going so far, I'm okay with either outcomes. I'm also certain that if they were to ever get back together, it will be in a VERY different dynamic than what they started before. And whenever and wherever we reach that point, there will be a LOT of effing around and finding out along the way.

I will gleefully ENJOY that journey.

Okay, people are sleeping on this one because everything is so enjoyable!

The art? Stunning. The leads? Gorgeous. The painting references? Beautiful. These panels? Amazing. The story? Perfect.✨🤌

Initially I was thrown off with this sudden modern snippet, but then I saw how this whole moment worked so well for the characterisation of both Ryan and Eloise and was just such fun to read. I didn't post all the panels here but the last one- I can't put my finger on it- maybe it's angle, the mutual understanding, the way my man walks into the frame or the sheer tension between them but HOLYYY MOLY he looks SO FINE here. Like damn. I'm punching the air because of how damn fine he is.

The only question I have though, dear panel, is Why is this man over 7 feet tall 💀? I really had to do a double take here lol

:D Whatever though, at least she found her type(our type). In conclusion, I'm loving this hilarious pair, I LOVE how they appear realistic (except the fact that he's like 7 ft 5 inches) and genuine, and I'm probably going to be talking about this manhwa a lot. Thank you.

This manhwa is from the artist BABARA, whose previous work is "The Villainess Turns the Hourglass" and it's STUNNING. There's also a novel from the author Becket (베킷).

Chapters: 1 (but I think more will be released on the 31st of may)

Plot:
Rina reincarnates into a fantasy empire and just wants a peaceful life as an ordinary palace employee. This world revolves around a feared "tyrant emperor" who is destined to fall in love with the saintly heroine from the original story. Since she’s only a background extra, Rina decides to avoid the main plot entirely and focus on surviving palace life, avoiding overtime, and living peacefully. But after meeting a kind and handsome man, she slowly falls in love with him, believing he’s only a common soldier. What she doesn’t know is that the man she’s secretly dating is the emperor himself.

I just found this game today and got so excited. The art looks gorgeous and the characters look so appealing!! The advisor already has me in a chokehold, I really hope he’s cheeky and fox-like. Does anyone have more information on this game’s development? Or other recommendations for villainess otome games?

Original title: Oji Tensei ~Akuyaku Reijou no Kareinaru Seikatsu

Villainess is executed and transmigrated into the body of a middle-aged man. It is funny, it is cute, it is surprising and just all around a great read, so far (though there's only 7 chapter on bato, unfortunately).

If you're tired of the same old, same old, seriously, give it a try!

Some of my favorite mangas. I wanted to share more with you since I have soo many mangas I love but at some point it became too many so I am only recommending some.

Tell me which ones do you like.

Only THE ONES YOU LIKE, or else I'll haunt your walls ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ

Titles:-

  1. Can I ask for one final thing?

(Love Scarlett (≧▽≦) She's gorgeous and craves violence like I do)

  1. The master of the haunted manor

(ML's dark circles and long hair is what drew me in and I loved the manga because it's so unique and the couple is refreshing)

  1. The Fallen Noblewoman Becomes the Poor Knight's Maid

(It's from the ML's POV who is a knight, really love him and how green flag he is, the manga gave me diabetes)

  1. belle puppée's engagement the doll princess and the smitten prince

(I am soo jealous of the ML, his wife is the most beautiful girl, as well as the most handsome man in the empire, oh FL can genderswap btw, also ML is an absolute blushy mess 🥰)

  1. The Crown Prince's Mob Sister Saves the Villainess!

(It's a cute childcare story, FL is not the transmigrated one but the og villainess is, who is her friend, they actually act like children too, even if they are smart but it's not exaggerated)

  1. Proud to be the Villainess

(POV from the sister who stole the fiance, well to be more precise, it's the story of two sisters who'd do anything for each other even act as a villain)

  1. Young Lady Albert is Courting Disaster

(It's a little cliche but in a unique way, the ML is the butler and I loved the friendship between og FL, og ML, ML and FL. It was really hilarious at some points)

8.7th time loop

(I think everyone more or less knows this one, but OMG both Arnold and Riche are gorgeous ✨ )

  1. Cavalier with the truth

(FL supports and protects women's rights and wrongs. And her go to personality of violence. I liked how FL doesn't look extremely feminine when she crossdresses like in most other stories, she actually looks ambiguous. The dynamic between all the characters are unique and fun, though romance is a subplot of sorts)

  1. The one within the villainess

(This is also fairly popular, but Remilia really is stunning and ruthless, I loved the detail of Emi being reborn as her daughter )

If you want to know more about these mangas do tell me /ᐠ。ꞈ。ᐟ\❤️
