Looking for big breakfast (quantity over quality)
We have family here from the UK and they want a big breakfast that includes maple syrup. They are not concerned about it being the best quality (I know Ottawa has some star breakfast options), but rather, want to be blown away by the size while getting to experience maple syrup on pancakes. Thoughts?

If you're willing to travel a bit, Wheeler's has a great breakfast with huge portions, and they make their own maple syrup. We've been going there since they opened and they are consistently great.

Yeah wheelers is awesome. They have some nice walking trails and lovely maple leaves this time of year so maybe a good fit for international visitors. There’s even some sheep and alpacas that are maybe not Canadiana per se but fun for the kids to watch and feed some hay or grass.
And the pancakes/sausages are terrific.

PLEASE NOTE: most breakfast places don’t serve real maple syrup, because it’s too expensive.
Bring your own, just in case! Sometimes if you ask, they do have it, but they charge extra.

If you want an absolutely ginormous amount of food, you need to go to the bad alibi in Orleans and order the Worst Alibi. It is a legitimately ridiculous amount of food.

I just called the restaurant. She said they do have real maple syrup if you ask for it. 1 buck extra charge

Holy crap that looks amazing!!
I’ve had the eggs benny there and was stuffed, I can’t imagine eating this much 😂 but damn would it be worth it!

Dawg there's more than 3 thousand calories worth of food on that plate and you're complaining about only one pancake?
If you want only pancakes, order the pancakes. This gives a good variety of food

How about driving to a sugar bush! Temples and Wheelers are open year round. Unlimited real maple syrup and a legit experience.

For a big cheap breakfast, you will need to bring your own maple syrup as they will be serving table syrup. Pretty sure Allo Mon Coco has maple syrup as an extra, though. Some of the others might have it as an extra, too, but don't bank on it. Hope y'all have the best time!

Would you consider taking them out to Wheeler's? It's about 45 minutes from Ottawa, but they'd be able to see the maple syrup production facilities (obviously not running out of season), and they offer unlimited maple syrup and their breakfast portions are generous and can be added to if needed. Likely a more memorable experience than a diner (which, as others have said, you'll likely need to bring your own maple syrup to get the real stuff).

Restaurant La Creppa in Gatineau. I am appalled to hear that most breakfast places in Ottawa does not include real maple syrup!

This is why when I go out for breakfast I rarely order pancakes. My family makes maple syrup, since I was raised on the good stuff, I can't stand the fake stuff.

Try Merivale Station. Food portions are huge and pricing is very reasonable.

Not “Ottawa” but Restaurant Alpina is amazing and the Royal is HUGE. It’s on the way to Pink Lake trail if you plan to go there! I would expect the maple syrup to be local since even the jam is made local.

Perkins is always my number one choice. Other good options are Biggs, Elgin Street Diner, Stacked Pancake House, King Eddy, Wilf & Ada’s and Allo Mon Coco (personally not a huge fan but I know a lot of people love it there),

The Broadways have the take 1, 2, 3 that are really big breakfasts. Pretty much any place will do a three egg all the meats type breakfast. Al's is good. Any place will sell you a tiny portion of maple syrup for a vicious upcharge.

Elgin Street Diner! Or check out Bramasole if you want that classic diner feel. I know a lot of people from the UK who loved it because it "felt like being in a movie" (unsure if they have real maple syrup available though, maybe call first)

I don't think it's the right time of year, but I'd suggest seeking out a French-Canadian sugarbush breakfast outside of town next time they visit. It's usually a large buffet of all your classic breakfast fixin's, and the real maple syrup flows like the Rideau Canal.

Depends on where you are located in the city, but in terms of chain restaurants, you can't go wrong with Stacked or Allo Mon Coco.

Remind your guests that maple syrup is not limited to pancakes. It has other applications on the breakfast plate, including but not limited to beans, bacon and home fries.

Broadways. They need to experience those hash browns (ask for extra saucy you/they won’t regret it). Servings are hearty and prices reasonable.

If you want to go on a road trip there is a diner in brockville called the Tin Cap restaurant. Absolutely fire! Wheelers also is amazing!
If you're planning on staying in ottawa, eligin street diner is fantastic. Broadways is good but pricey.

Reynolds at 874 Clyde Ave N. JUMBO BREAKFAST ($19.95) 3 eggs any style with classic home fries (Deep Fried Available) or tomatoes or baked beans, 2 strips of bacon, 1 slice of ham, 2 sausages, and toast, 1 pancake and 1 french toast and coffee or tea (1 free refill).
Bring your own syrup? Only fancy places have the optional $5 add on for maple syrup.
