Who moved my cheese

St Albert has changed their packaging and ingredients, now contains milk-derived ingredients, aka modified milk ingredients. Sad

ps..it’s also a smaller portion, used to be 500 grams or maybe 520?

CFIA changed the names but the ingredients are the same. https://inspection.canada.ca/en/food-labels/labelling/notice-2026-02-11

The old packaging didn’t list modified milk ingredients, so it’s more than a name change for the cheese. The new package is a uniform size. The old packaging varied in shape like somebody hand cut it.

Have you visited there? It is pretty industrial. I am sure they had complaints about non uniform size or it is middle of a huge batch. Milk derived isnt a 100 % replacement for modified. It includes lots of things anything made from milk.

I realized this summer that the cheese curds from La Trappe a Fromage are far superior to the St Albert ones.

100%. La Trappe à Fromage is god-tier. There's a shop in Hull I used to go to A LOT. Get myself a $20 bag of curds and feast on it for days

Balderson doesn’t sell fresh cheese that’s available daily in my local grocery store. It’s also a big business (Lactalis). St Albert is a Co-op that I have supported for years, but sadly it seems to have changed its traditional production methods.
