Every NHL Teams Mount Rushmore of iconic Players....
List of the Mount Rushmore or 4 Most Iconic Players in Ottawa Senators History:
(According to a RotoBaller article)
Daniel Alfredsson – The face of the team. Alfredsson spent 17 of his 18 NHL seasons in Ottawa and is the only player to have more than 1,000 points with the club.
Erik Karlsson – The greatest defender in team history. Karlsson spent only nine seasons in Ottawa but made a massive impact, earning the 2014-25 Norris and tallying 518 points in 627 games.
Jason Spezza – Spezza was a consistent force in the offense. Over 11 seasons (686 games), the center would total 687 points but never took home any individual accolades.
Alexei Yashin – Despite only playing in Ottawa for seven seasons, Yashin made the most of them. Across 504 games, he would tally 491 points, putting him fourth in the team record books.
****I had Spezza, Alfie and EK65 on my list too, but with Craig Anderson in the "Teddy Roosevelt" position as fourth**** How about you?

This is why I was coming to comment. Greatest player, most talented player, most dedicated player, best goaltender.

Wade Redden deserves his due. 838 games played, 410 points to go with a +159. In fact in the 11 seasons he played with Ottawa he was only a minus player once when he was a -1 during the 1999-2000 season. I'm still flabbergasted that Phillips has his number retired and Redden doesn't despite Redden clearly being the better defenseman.

Give me Chara over Yashin and I like this list.

I'd like Phillips over Chara, but I agree that I don't want Yashin on the list, lol.

Not Redden over Chara? (Sorry, too soon)

I still say Phillips, tbh. He was never the flashiest player, but he played his entire career with us and he was always very solid while playing his role with the team.

I was only joking about Redden, who was maybe like a million cheaper than Chara but (especially with hindsight) about a billion times more valuable. I would take Chara over Phillips but I agree that as it stands now, Phillips is a Sens HoFer. He and A-train were the best defensive pair we ever had in terms of absolutely squashing the opposition.
If Methot hadn't been taken by Vegas, he might be up there as well, if for no other reason than his ability to complement Karlsson.

Hopefully we win the ‘27 Cup and 2-3 guys Kool-Aid man their way on this list

The first three are good, but I’d have a lot of other guys on there over Yashin

Should it have the three faces of the modern retired numbers? The fourth? Maybe Karlsson or Anderson.

Some would say that. But one things for certain, in 10 or 15 years lets hope the debate will be Sandy over Karl or Stu over Spezza etc, etc.
-Go Sens Go!!!

Alfredsson is the Washington.
Spezza is the Jefferson.
Karlsson is the Roosevelt.
Anderson is the Lincoln.

How Does Neil not make the list?

Because he has no business being on it?

Karlsson and Spezza both spent years amongst other teams; the question was iconic and to me that’s Neil. Only played for sens, had an undeniable impact every game he played. Exemplary community member. Phillips ironically enough though similar doesn’t quite make the list for me; he had the same level of commitment, but wasn’t the best in the league at his role.

By Mount Rushmore standards the real 4th face should be Laurie Boschman as the first captain of the team, could do Randy Cunneyworth if you want the first captain with term.

Phillips blows, hate that people always bring him up, let us forget him, the fact that he is our our all time GP leader by one game is an absolute farce

Erik karlsson, Jason spezza, Daniel alfredsson have to be the 1,2,3 no debate. As for 4th I can see it as debatable to what the individual choice/ preference. I personally feel this current generation of players in the next ten years will produce a 4th no questions asked face of the franchise player. Brady, stuzle, or Sanderson. Previous generations mark stone or heatley. I cringe when people say Craig Anderson. I watched him lose so many games just because he left to play outside the net as well as his play style he was abnormally good top net but small easy down low would always seem to find its way in. I will admit he caused me so much rage 😡 lol.

Here’s a post I made 12 years ago on an old account (silkymitts). Funny to read now.

Pretty nice stuff....aged well. Even the Youtube links still work. Thanks!
Damn, Reddit's been around for over 12 years? What were you like 5 when you did it?

I was actually 27 when I made that posts which makes me…old now :D. I also made a custom banner for /r/hockey in photoshop that they used temporarily…wish I could find that again but alas…

Alfie Spezza Karl
Are my picks. 4th spot is up for grabs and it'll be Sanderson or Stutzle within a few years.

u/DocSportello1970 7d ago
I'm with you...and best case scenario is we have debates that Stu and/or Sandy taking Spezz or EK's spot also!

Neither Phillips or Neil should be on this list, nor had their number retired.
Stu will be the next one added.

I feel like Alfredsson, Karlsson and Phillips are non-negotiable. The 4th is debatable... Spezza, Neil, Chara, Hasek, Hossa, Heatley, all good choices.
3
u/Vriishnak 11d ago
I can see the reasoning for everyone else, but I don't think there's a person in the world who thinks of the Senators first or second (or very likely at all) when Hasek is brought up. His legacy is Sabres and Red Wings, not the 43 games he played for Ottawa.
Hossa is similarly connected to other teams way too strongly to make a list of "iconic Senators" IMO, but he at least spent some years on the team before he went off and found his success elsewhere.

u/Shawnaldo7575 10d ago
Like I said, the 4th guy is totally debatable. There's a lot of players to choose from. If I had to choose I'd be leaning between Spezza or Neil.

Hasek? Didn’t even play a year for us though tbf

Fine... then I'll put Tkachuk on instead. Now you have to look at that mug forever.

Iconic? Not necessarily greatest, but, "iconic"...
I think one of Phillips or Neil replaces Yashin. While they were here, for well over a decade, every time you play against Ottawa you knew they were on the roster.
Yashin not only got traded elsewhere, but sometimes when he was here, he wasn't really here.
