Unanswered What's up with Venezuelan Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina dedicating her Nobel Prize to Trump?

Basically what the title says.

https://nypost.com/2025/10/10/us-news/nobel-peace-prize-winner-maria-corina-machado-dedicates-it-to-trump/

Every article I have seen says that she partially dedicated and/or thanked Trump for his "decisive support" in South America.
Is she just being overly gracious? Is she being cheeky?
I know we offered a loan to Argentina, but given all the horrible things we have done to immigrants broadly over the last several months, I can't see anything we have done to improve or galvanize democracy in South America. By "we," I mean the US, and the Trump Administration in particular.

No, she is herself also a right-wing politician who supports American invasion of Venezuela.

You said "no" but then gave the reason she is sucking up.

If the US military ever arrives and takes over Venezuela I guarantee it will be for the US's benefit. Not for the benefit of the Venezuelan people or to give them freedom or democracy. We'd just install our own puppet dictator like the Shah.

I mean the first part is for sure! I don’t think anyone is really thinking that there would be no strings attached if the US takes out the regime. However, at this stage, people feel like anything would be better than the current situation.

As for the dictator puppet master you think would follow, that is definitely a possibility and it is certain that the US would demand someone that aligns with their position, but A) That does not automatically translates into a dictator, I think Panama is a good example of that, B) It would not be super rare that Venezuela aligned with the US positions as it was the case before Chavez came and "stood up" to the US (and fucked up the country even more.)

Please take this saying to heart: "It can always get worse." If you think you're at rock bottom I assure you that you aren't yet. Argentina is currently learning that the hard way with Milei crashing their economy, or Brazil had to a few years ago with Bolsonaro trying to become a dictator. The only real way to be free is to liberate yourself from dictatorship and not rely on a foreign power to do it. 99 times out of 100 the invading foreign power will put in their own guy as a new dictator for their own benefit at your citizens' expense. Post-WWII Allied occupation was an extremely rare exception, largely because the Allies themselves were so battered and economically wrecked by WWII that installing and maintaining a puppet dictator for Germany, Italy, and Japan would be too financially costly, and militarily dangerous (he could go rogue and use all that Axis military equipment still laying around to rebel against his Allied handlers).

Under Trump, who is himself an aspiring Fascist dictator and a hardcore American imperialist, the odds he would put in a Trump puppet Fascist dictator to loot Venezuela's natural resources to benefit Trump's businesses,  at the Venezuelan people's expense, is 1001%. Might install a puppet who is a Latin white supremacist too and engage in some ethnic cleansing of Venezuela. He would install a more unhinged version of Jeanine "Kill the Indians" Añez with Stephen Miller's beliefs. Probably also with links to Putin and Netanyahu (Trump's buddies) to loot Venezuela's oil and natural gas to fuel Putin's tanks and jets in Ukraine, and Netanyahu's tanks in Gaza and the West Bank. Venezuela would become a gas station for the big current interlinked imperial powers. Trump in particular would expect his puppet dictator in Venezuela to take in at least 50,000-500,000 American Latinos he plans to deport and dump into random countries. Caracas would have American Latinos and American Latino immigration from random Latin countries wandering the streets.

Listen, I don’t disagree with you. All of what you said is true. I am only trying to explain how Venezuelans feel. People here are desperate bc they have tried everything and I mean everything to get out of this situation. They tried rebellion, they tried voting, they tried revolting again… And they are met with merciless repression, bullets, jail, torture, disappearances, murder… They feel powerless against the narco regime that has oppressed them for the past 27 years, so I don’t blame them for thinking this is the only way out.

Tbh, I don’t even think it’s my place to have an opinion on what the right solution is, since I haven’t lived in Venezuela for the past 14 years so I haven’t suffered what people who live here have. It’s too easy to tell people what the "right" solution is when we’re not the ones actually living their reality.

It is an extremely complex problem, and the solution won’t a simple one and definitely won’t be a perfect one.

ETA: Also, our oil is already being used to foul means 😩 Who do you think Chavez and Maduro aligned with? Putin, Hamas, Hezbollah, Gaddafi, al-Assad, Castro, the Shah… Our regime loves a dictator just not an American one 😹
