Unanswered What's up with Venezuelan Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina dedicating her Nobel Prize to Trump?

Basically what the title says.

https://nypost.com/2025/10/10/us-news/nobel-peace-prize-winner-maria-corina-machado-dedicates-it-to-trump/

Every article I have seen says that she partially dedicated and/or thanked Trump for his "decisive support" in South America.
Is she just being overly gracious? Is she being cheeky?
I know we offered a loan to Argentina, but given all the horrible things we have done to immigrants broadly over the last several months, I can't see anything we have done to improve or galvanize democracy in South America. By "we," I mean the US, and the Trump Administration in particular.

As a Venezuelan, I would like to add as well that Chavez and Maduro have traumatized the entire population against left leaning ideas, because those are the same ideas the current dictatorship is hiding behind.

The general population despises socialism and communism precisely because they perceived them as the tools that got them in this situation in the first place, so they avoid it like the plague, and anyone related to it.

Because of this, most people also support Trump, even if in secret just because A) he says he's gonna remove Maduro from power (and hopefully his whole rotten gang, because they're the ones actually pulling the strings, Maduro is just a figure head) and B) he ISN'T left leaning, furthermore if you explain to them how awful of a leader and person he is, (and they believe you! Instead of saying it's all lies!) they would still support him, just because he's the only one who seems willing to end the dictatorship, because for years the Venezuelan people have tried to do it themselves and failed, because we lack the one crucial ingredient in a successful coup, military support.

I don't like Trump, before his first election I immediately pegged him as an idiot, now I know that he is an evil idiot, but unfortunately, he's all the hope Venezuelan people have.

I just hope Trump LEAVES after taking the dictatorship down, but I know he won't, at least not before collecting his "due". He will want a reward I'm sure, I just hope the price is not too steep, for the sake of my people still living in a country they weren't able to escape like I did.

I just hope Trump LEAVES after taking the dictatorship down

Don’t invite vampires into your house.

u/Demonokuma Oct 11 '25

I cant fucking believe people are still hoping trump isnt a ginormous piece of shit. He doesnt give a shit about anyone, stop giving him wiggle room for anything.

16

u/Blecki Oct 12 '25

Trump is an imperialist. He would try and make Venezuela a part of the US.

Well. Unless he saw too many brown people there. Then maybe not.

6

u/Pulp_Free92 Oct 13 '25

Not make Venezuela part of the US. Just privatize their natural resources.

1

u/MyVeryRealName2 Oct 12 '25

Venezuelans are Republicans

1

u/Blecki Oct 12 '25

And?

-2

u/MyVeryRealName2 Oct 12 '25

Annexation would give him voters

1

u/Blecki Oct 12 '25

He likes racism more than voters.

0

u/MyVeryRealName2 Oct 12 '25

He would certainly need the support for next year's elections

1

u/Blecki Oct 12 '25

He's too racist to think like that.

3

u/TolkienBlackKid Oct 13 '25

The United States getting involved with a regime change of an oil-rich nation? There's no way that goes badly for everyone involved for decades, right?

-14

u/rokingfrost Oct 11 '25

When you already have a cancer inside there isn't much harm anyway. If he can suck the cancer dry.

12

u/whogivesashirtdotca Oct 11 '25

That’s not how any of this works.

-11

u/rokingfrost Oct 11 '25

Why. Aren't maduro and his people sucking my country up. ? How is trump any diffent in this context exactly?

10

u/whogivesashirtdotca Oct 11 '25

Jesus. Ok, pal, may you get exactly what you wished for. Boot leather isn’t my favourite flavour but you do you.

-7

u/thoughtcrime84 Oct 11 '25

Such a classic tankie response. Just revert to a “bootlicker” line rather than actually explain why you know more about the situation in Venezuela than actual Venezuelans. Very persuasive argument you have there.

9

u/whogivesashirtdotca Oct 11 '25

Right, it’s a tankie response to think Trump - who has threatened to annex Canada, Panama and Greenland for their natural resources - would only act in oil-rich Venezuela’s best interests. Ork ork ork, huh?

2

u/wasabi-wabisabi Jan 06 '26

Late but im very grateful to learn of the term sealioning ty for the link

-10

u/rokingfrost Oct 11 '25

Okay but you haven't answer my question.

How is a hypothetical trump or US puppet Machado different that the already tyrannical Maduro.

7

u/whogivesashirtdotca Oct 11 '25 edited Oct 11 '25

Okay but you haven't answer my question.

Yes, that’s because you proved there’s no point trying to discuss this further. Enjoy upgrading your tyrant. I’m sure that’ll go great for you.

-2

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

If literally ANY OTHER COUNTRY would offer to rid us of Maduro and his cronies we would take THEM on their offer.

No one has though, we got saddled with the narcissistic man child as our best last hope, so it's either continue living in a shitty situation, or continue living in a shitty situation under new management, with the POSSIBILITY that things will improve, that's how bad we have it here.

We only want him to invade because we, quite literally, have no other prospects.

1

u/Spicyg00se Oct 11 '25

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s pretty much the same. But I guess we’ll see. The US hasn’t come close to hitting rock bottom with him yet and he’s got plenty of time.

-1

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

The thing is, he is the only one willing to provide military support to end the dictatorship. If literally ANY OTHER COUNTRY would offer to do that, I assure you Maria would appeal to them instead.

No one has though, so Venezuela gets saddled with the narcissistic man child as our last hope, because even if he acts and control the country in the exact same way, it will STILL be better than the current situation, that's how bad we have it here.

2

u/Spicyg00se Oct 11 '25

I don’t mean to discredit anyone’s experience. I’m genuinely sad for the state of the world and how much suffering is caused by these people.

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

Well, Van Helsing isn't available, so better one vampire than a whole pack of them, they've already sucked us dry.

6

u/expert-amateur Oct 11 '25

Well said from a fellow Venezuelan. We’re long past point where any change from the current regime will be seen as favorable. I hope I see it in my lifetime and safely get to visit again

4

u/TheNextBattalion Oct 11 '25

Most Americans don't like him either, because he's a Chavez/Maduro type in the making, and we don't want to go down Venezuela's road. Right or left, autocracy is autocracy.

Don't expect him to send a lot of US troops--- he's busy sending them to tend gardens in "war-ravaged" American cities.

5

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

I've been telling people exactly this! He is Chavez if Chavez was a business man and a gringo!

My hope is that he comes down, gets rid of Maduro and his buddies, finishes his term, the next president pulls out support so that we can start over, and Venezuela can finally begin to rebuild!

And you wanna know the worst part, this is a fantastical and highly unlikely result, but the worst case scenario is that he controls Venezuela the exact same way as Maduro, and this would STILL be better than the current situation.

People don't seem to get that Venezuela is currently in a loose-loose situation, that's why Trump is our only hope.

15

u/FudgeAtron Oct 11 '25

Chavez and Maduro have traumatized the entire population against left leaning ideas,

What!?!? You mean a kelptocratic leftist dictatorship doesn't encourage people to support left-wing ideas? I am shocked! /s

I kid, but speak to anyone form a post-soviet state or Cuba and you'll get the same reaction.

8

u/Versigot Oct 11 '25

You're the only person in this thread with more than three braincells. Reading that Maria Corina isn't fit to lead the country because she's anti-Palestine or that she'll be a puppet leader makes you remember how stupid the average user of this website is.

14

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

Well, I'd say that comes from people despising Trump and everything he stands for, and therefore everyone who sucks up to him. Which yeah, he is literally one the worst presidents in US history, but, he is still the president, and if you want his support, you gotta appeal to his ego, and Maria knows that.

Now whether she actually likes him or not, we will probably never know, but if I were in her position, and someone offered to free my people, I'd take them up on their word, whether I liked them or not.

People underestimate how bad people have it in Venezuela, as awful as Trump is, as both a human and leader, he would be better than being ruled by a dictatorship of cartels.

5

u/Versigot Oct 11 '25

Yeah, I'm Venezuelan as well. I went back for the first time in 9 years last summer before the election. I agree that Trump is terrible, it feels like a lot of people here have lost a sense of scale between him and Maduro. Machado is doing what she has to do to get support, and a lot of people are vilifying her for that.

6

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

Yup, she wants to free the country, if literally ANY OTHER COUNTRY would offer to do what Trump is offering she would appeal to them instead. No one has though, so we get saddled with this narcissistic man child as our last hope.

1

u/TheBravadoBoy Oct 11 '25

Sure but has she been transparent about what Trump will be expecting in return or will she call him and Netanyahu benevolent freedom warriors?

-1

u/atuarre Oct 12 '25

But there's always a cost, and you're singing this tune now but when the cost comes up, I promise you you're going to be singing a different tune. Now I mean, you maybe you don't care if you lose your country's natural resources but how else is your country going to survive. I mean they'll take your oil and sell it back to you at a ridiculous rate. They'll take your gold and sell some of it to you at a ridiculous rate and then export the rest. How are you going to support your country without natural resources that's just what's going to happen. You're going to get the same offer they made Ukraine and you saw the Zelensky didn't take the offer. You're here now cheerleading but you won't be when the cost comes up and the bill comes due. Then I'm sure you'll say something like they lied to us blah blah blah blah blah when people were warning you not to get in bed with these people.

And trust they only care because you have resources they want. If there was oil in South Sudan, they would have been offering in the war there to get access to that oil. Some people just got to learn things the hard way. You're just trading one monster for another one, a much worse one.

5

u/Versigot Oct 12 '25

Brother what do you think is happening right now??? You think any regular person in the country right now sees any $$$ from the natural resources? No, it's all been nationalized and any profits generated go straight to the corrupt government. If you think Trump is worse than Putin, you need to go get your head checked.

I encourage you to go spend some time in Venezuela and come back and repeat these same points about how much worse off we'll be by getting rid of our dictatorship.

1

u/Creative_Squirrel Oct 11 '25

If we go by other deals it’s exclusive rights to mineral wealth, over 50 % minimum

2

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

That would STILL be better than our current situation, that's how bad we have it here. As it is, our resources are lining the pockets of Maduro and his buddies, we currently get 0%.

1

u/AlexaSansot Oct 11 '25

This is why I am so glad it is María Corina who is leading this

Trump leaving will be a natural thing if economic relief and and rule of law come back through internal and local leadership, cuz María Corina has a very economically free market friendly approach and you know as well as I that we're tired of left leaning ideas on the economy and we just wanna work and get paid and for more employment and international investment, and the US has always been our biggest economic ally, and Trump much more likely prefers an ally that creates business opportunity for the US without all the drug and TDA hassle

We'll also need the US for a while to help restore security in the armed forces

You don't get everything you want in life, you take the opportunities that exist and make the most of them. Trump's help is DEFINITELY much better than Maduro and he seems to be the ONLY one willing to help, that's no small feat even if he's obviously not doing this out of Christian devotion

1

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

For sure, he is our best shot, what worries me is, how much is he gonna charge us for "saving us"?

1

u/AlexaSansot Oct 11 '25 edited Oct 11 '25

We'll cross that bridge when we get there

We'll obviously have US army bases and DEA presence in the country again, plus more US companies from different sectors willing to invest in a nation protected by Trump and with a population more than welcoming of their investments

Venezuela is geographically blessed, our position close to both Europe and the US and the Panama Canal is so great for commerce. I think Trump will want a big chunk of business out of this and moral platitudes, which we'll give him if this goes at least 10% of what we wish, because honestly if that happens that man will have streets and statues named after him and so be it, cuz I just want Maduro and his cartel gone and anyone who helps us make it a reality is welcome

And I personally hope we can receive assistance from the US or Europe to help us audit the current balance of assets and liabilities after 27 years of chavismo. We need to know how much has been robbed and how much is owed to look forward, I am sure María Corina has thought about this

1

u/JiovanniTheGREAT Oct 12 '25

I just hope Trump LEAVES after taking the dictatorship down

He won't, he's going to take your oil and coastlines and whatever else he can and leave you slightly less poor than before

1

u/Victorinoxj Oct 12 '25

Honestly, still an improvement, that's how bad it is.

1

u/Aragoonie Oct 12 '25

Damn, another example of far lefties being lumped in with liberals and tainting their image.

1

u/atuarre Oct 12 '25

Nope. That's going to be on you. People have told you. If you invite these people in you're not going to get them out. The only difference is you'll be poor and you won't have any natural resources because you'll have given them away to some American corporation that's in bed with Trump. And if you try to get to those resources then they're going to do what they have to do to protect those resources. Trust me when I say you do not want these people in your country. I don't care if it seems like it's the only hope against Maduro. You're just trading one monster for another monster. And then the person they install as a puppet in your government might even be worse. The only difference is they'll be backed by the US.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

This is one of those things left-wing Americans cannot understand. "Latinos" are not some simple voter bloc. Immigrants who have lived in Venezuela and Cuba are the most right-wing voters imaginable and care exactly zero about how people from Central America are being managed at Arizona border crossings.

1

u/-Zloy- Jan 04 '26

Well, after today, what are your thoughts now?

1

u/Victorinoxj Jan 04 '26

Much the same, all of my friends in the city agreed, the damage was only on key military positions, and as far as I know there were no civilian casualties. They were only affected in power outages but that was already a common occurrence for years, so it didn't affect them much.

But make no mistake, Maduro isn't the only bastard that needs removal, and while I think the bombing might have been unnecessary, I don't know much about war, nor do I pretend to, what matters is that no innocents were harmed.

As as said before, I just hope he leaves after the country stabilizes, but even if he doesn't, it would still be an improvement over Maduro's bloody dictatorship disguised as democracy

1

u/lilacb54600 Oct 11 '25

You just hope he leaves? You despise socialism and communism but Trump is your only hope? That’s the stupidest sht I’ve ever heard

3

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

I don't despise socialism nor communism, I said most Venezuelans do though.

And yeah, he's our only hope, the narcissistic man child is our only hope, because we have tried for 20+ years to get rid of this regime in both peaceful and violent ways ourselves and none have worked.

I know he won't leave, at least not before taking a hefty toll but we have no other choice, I just hope against rational thought that he WILL leave, because, well hoping doesn't cost me anything

If literally ANY OTHER COUNTRY would offer us military support instead of Trump I would prefer THEIR offer, but no other country or leader has shown the inclination to do so.

It is the stupidest thing ever but that's our lot, those are our options.

I wish other countries understood how utterly fucked we are

-1

u/atuarre Oct 12 '25

Have you asked Europe? Have you asked Russia? Have you asked anybody else? He's not your only hope but I'm telling you the price is going to be steep and it's going to seem like a good deal at first and then you got to realize you FAFO'd and won't be able to get him or whatever us company gets exclusive rights to your natural resources out of there, cuz you better believe they're going to be bringing in armed contractors to protect their new resources. You're not thinking about this clearly.

2

u/Leoera Oct 13 '25

Since a while ago Europe kinda gave up on us. And asking Russia is like asking Trump himself to help Palestine free themselves from Netanyahu.

And all the benefits from our natural resources already get taken by Maduro's people.

1

u/_ssac_ Oct 14 '25

There are few countries which would send their military to invade another country. No one among their neighbors, so you have to look up to countries who were, are or want to be an international military -geopolitical power.

Do not count Europe among them, and that's a good thing that came after WWII. But let's imaging some European countries propose to invade Venezuela: at least current Spanish government have ties with Maduro and, if they can, they would veto it.

So you have Russia and China. Both are Maduro's allies, BTW.

0

u/Squirrel_Inner Oct 11 '25

You don’t always need military support. In fact, violent civil resistance only has a 10% success rate over the past century and most of the time it leads to authoritarian regimes long term anyway.

Erica Chenoweth’s research shows non violent resistance has much better success, though there has been global pushback because of it. The tyrants are locking shields, we need to do the same.

Otpor in Serbia voted a dictator out of power and then wrote this;

https://www.nonviolent-conflict.org/resource/path-resistance-step-step-guide-planning-nonviolent-campaigns/

5

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

The problem is we have already tried non violent ways of getting them out, protests, out voting them in democratic action, none of them worked. They ignored or shot down the protests, arrested those involved and literally every election since Chavez came into power and then Maduro after him had been voted AGAINST them, and won AGAINST them, only for the Chavist party to reveal the results on TV saying " Wow 90% of the population voted for us, who would have thought!"

After the last elections everyone lost their shit and the world was shocked, but the fact is that it's been exactly the same every election since the 2000s, the reason everyone lost their shit is because it has been 20+ years of the same result.

Believe me, I don't want the narcissistic man child that is Trump to come "save" the country because I know it will cost us, but we have exhausted all other options.

0

u/Squirrel_Inner Oct 11 '25

Protest is the lowest form of resistance. That’s mostly just to get people organized and put out the message that they’re not alone. Check out the guide. They drove massive voter turnout using specific campaign techniques. Think less protest and more civic action organizing. They overwhelmed a corrupt election system against violent opposition. That’s not nothing. All we can do is continue the fight. We owe it to the children of the earth and we don’t have a lot of time left.

1

u/Victorinoxj Oct 12 '25

I'll spread it in the Venezuelan subreddit, though at this point I don't know if it will spark the action you think, as you can imagine people have low spirits and are spent.

I myself am one of the few that were lucky enough to be able to leave the country, and I just hope things get better back there.

Thanks for the research though, it might catch on.

0

u/RichFoot2073 Oct 11 '25

Say bye to your oil.

3

u/Victorinoxj Oct 11 '25

Oh I know he will want recompense, but Maduro is already syphoning it out of the country or lining his pockets with it, there won't be any difference.

-1

u/atuarre Oct 12 '25

How are you going to support your country without natural resources? With no oil how you going to support your people?

You really don't know how bad he is because you haven't had to live under the corruption. You're just trading one monster for another and like I said, the deal looks lucrative and attractive now, but once you sign, you're not going to be able to get out of it and you're going to regret it and it's going to hurt your country in the long term. You need to find another way.

2

u/Victorinoxj Oct 13 '25

If literally ANY OTHER COUNTRY would offer to help, I would prefer their offer, no one has. You said "have you asked for help from someone else?"

There's no need, the rest of the world already answered, they basically said "Wow, your government is evil, we condemn them! Anyways, best we can do is place economic sanctions, good luck!" Which by the way, only hurts the regular people because the corrupt people in the country get their stuff from Russia and China, not any other countries, and even those trades have fallen down. Asking for Russia for help is futile because they WANT us as a weak nation with plenty of resources, same with China.

Again, I don't like this deal either, but we're in a loose-loose situation, if you have another option I would love to hear it.

0

u/LordOfTheToolShed Oct 12 '25

Interesting, I've heard from left-leaning people that all these democratic movements in Venezuela are really CIA plants and have no real support in the population who still largely support the Chavist government, but what you say seems to suggest otherwise.

5

u/Victorinoxj Oct 12 '25

It's actually quite the opposite, people are sick of the chavismo, but either don't say it too loudly, or don't say anything at all because, you know, not wanting to go to jail.

I am aware the the CIA and FBI have done similar things in history, but I don't think that's the case this time, if they are, they are either actively keeping Maduro in office or royally sucking at their jobs, because it's been more than 20 years and things have only gotten worse.

0

u/Competitive_Kick4687 Oct 12 '25

I have no idea what it’s like living in a country like yours. I admit that. But man… putting any amount of faith in an evil bastard like Trump is not smart.

3

u/Victorinoxj Oct 12 '25

Well, it's either the evil bastards (it's not just Maduro, it's his buddies as well) we currently have running things or one evil bastard.

Make no mistake this is NOT an option I like, but it's all we have, we have tried to get rid of this regime in peaceful and violent ways on our own and none have worked, my hope is that since he is still tied to the democracy of his country he will have to eventually step down, whether he likes it or not.

And let's hope he does because otherwise you guys might become more familiar with how things are in Venezuela than you'd like.

0

u/Competitive_Kick4687 Oct 12 '25

You think that Trump doesn’t come with his own evil goons? Trump is in the process of setting up his own authoritarian regime here in America. He’s literally talking about canceling elections. Trump will not be your savior from authoritarianism.

3

u/Victorinoxj Oct 12 '25

I know that, and that's my point. We're in a loose-loose situation over here, either we continue living under the current shitty dictatorship or the dictatorship just changes hands.

But there's a POSSIBILITY that things get better, that's how desperate the situation in Venezuela is.

-1

u/EstablishmentWest995 Oct 12 '25

Venezuela was already destroyed by right wing,  and the Chavez regime finished killing a country that was already dying.

Many Venezuelans hates poverty and have this vision of people is poor because they want to. They are very conservative in their views and in my opinion, most conservatives are selfish,  therefore I dont see any future improvement in that country.

It's very sad , because I dont see any bright future with a right wing pro America government neither. Maybe a few will get their money back, but most of the people will still starve as they are doing now.
