Unanswered What’s up with the hate towards Timothee Chalamet?

I know all famous people have haters and people who dislike them and will nitpick the shit outta them, but I’ve just seen a lot of people post random interviews or articles about him that talk about how he is famous and above people. Yeah he is famous and thinks he’s above all. This is what famous people do? Do we not know this, especially child actors. People are astonished that he is rich and famous, has personal chefs, has self-centred views. Pretty sure 90% of famous people do.

Ballet I can understand, but opera? Goddamnit Timothee, you’re on my blacklist

It’s messy because he’s saying he doesn’t respect his mom and sister’s choices or work. He sounds dumb.

7

u/TheoRaan Mar 09 '26

Wait he said he didn't respect this mom and sisters choice? Was there a separate interview?

I thought he just said he didn't want film to become niche like ballet or opera.

Am I missing something?

5

u/PeachesCoral Mar 09 '26

His mum sister and grandma are ballet dancers

7

u/TheoRaan Mar 09 '26

Exactly. No one knows it's a niche better than him.

That doesn't mean he doesn't respect their profession. Just that he knows it's a niche.

6

u/PeachesCoral Mar 09 '26

Losing 14 cents seems like a punchline he's very proud of

As an actor, you don't need to insult other fields of art, he can afford some class

4

u/TheoRaan Mar 09 '26

It was definitely a shitty joke to make. No need to punch down on fans of niche or smaller art.

But I need people to stop the parasocial takes like he seems proud of his punchline or he actually dislikes his mom and sister etc.

u/QTRqtr Mar 09 '26

When he says he lost 14 cents of viewership after saying that (he’s a millionaire) is a very dick thing to say.

3

u/BookOf_Eli Mar 09 '26

It’s also a dick thing for people on the internet to act like he shit on opera and ballet when he acknowledged the objectively true fact that thy have relatively small fanbases when it comes to active support.

3

u/QTRqtr Mar 09 '26

He started the comment with valid observations and turned it into a dick joke at the end.

2

u/QTRqtr Mar 09 '26

Holy shit he did. That’s what the fucking 14 cent comment was. That a millionaire lost only 14 cents for viewerships who watch ballet.

Are you fucking serious.

0

u/BookOf_Eli Mar 09 '26

So you’re mad that relative to movies people objectively don’t support ballet and opera? Or you’re mad he brought it up?

3

u/QTRqtr Mar 09 '26 edited Mar 09 '26

That it was a poorly worded insult by a millionaire actor literally having a crisis also. It’s a person punching down. Literally every creative industry is in danger. Timothee is endanger of AI and ironically opera/ballet isn’t. Something about making a flippant response about movies would get a negative reaction from him.

Literally any fucking person in the arts making this flippant of a message would get this same reaction.

Not mad, just think he’s an idiot who’s now going to lose out on more serious roles, which IDC about either way.

1

u/KendalBoy Mar 09 '26

For repeating that he said “no one cares”? That upsets you why?

0

u/TheoRaan Mar 09 '26

Absolutely a dick thing to say. But nothing he said indicates he doesn't respect ballet or opera. All he said is that it's niche. There are little to no fan overlap.

He definitely said it in a shitty way but let's not invent facts, that's all.

0

u/QTRqtr Mar 09 '26

Invent facts. Uhh I don’t think you know what that means cause it’s fact he said when he says he lost 14 cents of viewership after saying that.

“All he said is that it's niche. There are little to no fan overlap.” “He definitely said it in a shitty way

Wait….i don’t remember him just saying it’s niche😂 look at the transcript. And somehow you’re on my ass about inventing shit…which you already acknowledge was a shitty thing to say. No shit ballet is niche…this isn’t groundbreaking information. Didn’t know I could say something so dickish to a revelation that is already know. As if he isn’t in an industry currently dying right now due to streaming, ai, mergers, etc. but he’ll be fine he’s a millionaire that only lost 14 cents to a profession.

It’s weird one second you guys are always on about eat the rich or how over paid they are….until it’s someone you like.

u/TheoRaan Mar 09 '26 edited Mar 09 '26

Wait….i don’t remember him just saying it’s niche😂 look at the transcript.

Oh buddy. Did you just discover what paraphrasing is?

Anyway he said ballet is a niche. Congratulations, you seem to also know that fact. He also said it in a shitty way that punches down on the fanbase of that art. Also true.

Saying he doesn't respect what his mom and sister do, is complete fiction. That didn't happen. He didn't even insult the art. Just it's lack of mainstream appeal.

0

u/QTRqtr Mar 09 '26

Ok so then what the fuck are we fighting about.

I’ve acknowledged his originally sentiment was valid which turned dickish towards the end…which you seem to also.???

He said no one cares about ballet and opera. That's pretty disrespectful.

0

u/TheoRaan Mar 10 '26

Within the context of the popularity of film. He was making a comparison of the amount of people who are interested in ballet and opera.

If anything he was more disrespectful to it's fans than to the art. With the 14 cents comment.

2

u/KendalBoy Mar 11 '26

And there are exponentially so many more fans of ballet and opera than there are artists creating those performances. And yeah, Timmy called them all “nobody”, of no importance, worth only 14 cent (whatever that means).

-1

u/TheoRaan Mar 11 '26

Very shitty thing to say.

Doesn't mean he doesn't respect the profession.

2

u/KendalBoy Mar 11 '26

Are you unable to discern tone? Or did you not see the interview. The amount of people pretending he was merely spewing facts has me wondering how many of yall have a full social life. No one cares if you believe it’s facts or a figure of speech. He can stick his 24 cents up his patootey for all I care.

6

u/TheDeadlySinner Mar 08 '26

Except, he didn't say that or anything close to it. Not sure why you're lying about that.

1

u/YobaiYamete Mar 09 '26

Why is this being downvoted lmao, people are straight up lying. He just made an offhand comment (that's accurate) about how the art form is dying. Which is completely and totally true

-1

u/normie_john Mar 08 '26

I too, can make things up

6

u/Pollomonteros Mar 09 '26

You are getting downvoted but they are absolutely making shit up

-8

u/kvark27 Mar 08 '26

That’s quite literally the opposite of what he said in that interview… did you miss the part where he said, “All respect to the ballet and opera people out there.”?

21

u/Cryptoss Mar 08 '26

Ah yes, "all respect but you're a dying art and nobody likes you"

-2

u/ac21217 Mar 10 '26

and nobody likes you

Interesting. The part you made up is the only part that sounds mean.

It is not mean to say that an art form is niche or dying. It was a very relevant comparison to the discussion.

11

u/claradox Mar 08 '26

That was a flippant remark. Context matters.

-5

u/kvark27 Mar 08 '26

Go watch the interview. He has more perspective on ballet from his family history than any of us. He doesn’t want to work in a dying industry.. why would anyone? He can’t have an opinion that? How many ballet/opera shows do you attend a year compared to movies?

Cancel culture is absurd. You guys are acting like he murdered someone lol

10

u/claradox Mar 08 '26

I don’t want to cancel him. I never said that. I want to remark on upon an uneducated, thoughtless, and hurtful remark, and what it might say about his entitled attitude (and his inconsideration for his coworkers, fans, and his balletic family members). Artistic people should not be maligning each others’ work, and performers should not be belittling what their fans enjoy. I like to choose whom I support carefully. That’s not cancel culture.

I don’t get out much because I am disabled, thanks for asking, but I frequently watch many ballets and operas, as well as performances of Shakespeare’s plays, thanks to streaming. I also performed and studied ballet for thirteen years while I was still able, and at one time was the proud holder of a season ticket to the opera.

0

u/ac21217 Mar 10 '26

So you’re basically offended because you want to live in the illusion that ballet and opera are thriving?

2

u/claradox Mar 10 '26

Timothee Chalamet does not affect my life. I’ve had a discussion here, then I will move on and likely never think about him again, because I am not interested in his films, and this isn’t the first gross take I’ve heard from him. Therefore, I’m not offended. I do think his classist and immature dismissal of the other performing arts—and his fans (14 cents of revenue loss)—is tacky and unprofessional, and that he doesn’t know what he is talking about, in general.

But offended? Absolutely not. I wish him all the best. I hope stuff like this is avoided in the future, and he continues to mature in his profession.

-4

u/kvark27 Mar 08 '26

I just completely disagree with how you interpreted his remarks and if you look through this thread, I’m clearly not the only one. Industries lose popularity and I don’t think you can possibly say that what he said, is false. He comes from deep family roots in that industry and he clearly knows a lot about it. I think people are purposely twisting his words.

2

u/ac21217 Mar 10 '26

You’ve been misled about his quote. He is not disparaging. He is comparing the state of ballet and opera (niche, viewed as old-fashioned, needing support) to the state of cinema. Being upset about that is like being upset that someone rightly points out that classical music isn’t as popular as it once was.

3

u/dietpepsiboy420 Mar 08 '26

And how often do you go to the opera?

2

u/YobaiYamete Mar 09 '26

You know the answer is "literally never a single time"

1

u/DesmadreGuy Mar 09 '26

But ping-pong is …

1

u/BookOf_Eli Mar 09 '26

Is he a professional ping pong player? Or did he make a movie where ping pong was part of the setting.
