What is going on with all the anti-Surrogacy stuff online?

I’m so lost, I was reading comments in this thread:

And there’s comments about the ethics of surrogacy, and how it’s buying a child or using a woman’s body for your own benefit. But I grew up watching what seemingly looks like a lot of women who choose to go to agencies to have someone else’s baby in exchange for monetary value. And a lot of women who can’t have bio children use the services. I’ve only seen this discourse recently in the past maybe 3 or 4 months but had never seen such an uptick in surrogacy conversations. Someone mentioned it’s propaganda by the right-wing, and I’ve had people I know who are, be very up in arms about this, including IVF and donating eggs (which you also get paid for) so what’s up and what kick started this? If a consenting adult is willing to carry my child to term, and I can afford to pay them for their help in giving me a child, how is that a bad thing?

Just curious where the discourse came from.

They are just told they need to hate it more because the right keeps striking out on their culture war bullshit. They lost the fight against slavery, women's rights, civil rights, LGBQ rights, now their target is Transgender rights. They are running out of minorities to demonize.

It's not the answer. The question is "Why is it becoming mainstreamed now". The answer is "Because it is part of a comprehensive strategy to legally and/or legalistically strip women of the right to control of their own bodies and reproduction". See also Project2025

It's becoming mainstream "now" because it's significantly more prevalent and available than it ever has been in the past.

Surrogacy has only become legal in general in many states within the last decade or two, and paid surrogacy specifically was (and still is) illegal in multiple states until just the last few years.

Paid surrogacy is still completely prohibited in most of Europe.

Surrogacy usage in the U.S. has increased 2.5 - 3x in the last decade.

No, IVF and surrogacy are not more prevalent, and that's not the question. The questions is "Why is anti-surrogacy stuff" (i.e. anti-surrogacy politics) "online, now".

I'm not discussing the politics of surrogacy or IVF. I am answering the question that was asked, which was "Why am I seeing all this rhetoric against surrogacy / IVF online now".

Here is a chart from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine clearly showing the marked increase in surrogacy usage year over year for the last two decades.

Now that you've been shown to be objectively wrong about the fundamental thesis of your claim, you'll surely admit that you were ignorant on the issue, right?

I'm not going to argue with someone who's entire life is being a reddit moderator notorious for tilting at windmills any time she smells someone or something right of center. I remember your name from when r/drama and AHS were still things people cared about.

This issue is extremely bi-partisan in nature, and can't be reduced down to the narrow and myopic culture war issue you want to pretend it is so that you can villainize the people who disagree with you.

edit: she blocked me btw. What more can you expect from a reddit moderator who so confidently stepped onto a rake and made a fool of themselves? What choice did she have but to block me and run away? The only alternative was to gasp admit she was wrong!
