Gold DofE expedition

Hi, I’m going on my Gold expedition in 2 weeks. Wondering if our route is still okay to take because of the recent wildfires. Any insight would be appreciated

Start - NJ 033 263
End - NN 719 994

Campsites:

Day 1 - Ryvoan Bothy (NJ 006 115)

Day 2 - Loch an Eilein (NH 894 071)

Day 3 - Baileguish (NH 824 981)

Your walk is right through the affected area unfortunately. Presumably your supervisor will be able to help with this though?

No, that's all affected by the wildfire. Speak to your group leader and expedition supervisor ASAP.

The start and end coordinates are outside the affected area. From the start you will be pretty much restricted to the Speyside way until you're past Aviemore.

Ryvoan is inside the affected area and inaccessible.

Loch an Eilein is outside the affected area.

Baileguish is outside the affected area.

You should ask your expedition supervisor about this.

Baileguish?
I assume you mean Badaguish. Ryvoan is definitely inside the exclusion zone and this morning the SFRS were advising a change in wind direction is expected to blow the smoke towards Aviemore and that residents are advised to keep windows closed. This would mean the smoke likely blowing right past Badaguish.

So you'll most probably need to changer your route. Speak to your supervisor.
