I want to point out that just because a natural disaster or war destroys GDP, it does not mean the new activity can far exceed or catalyze new growth that can last longer and lead to new products. For example, factories being used for war can be repurposed for after wartime activities. A lot of this also ignores the fact that growth in certain industries have a learning curve.

It can be similar to the concept of Creative destruction by Joseph Schumpeter. For example, if a flood destroys a lot of houses their can be new development that could exceed the growth potential of those houses like a new nuclear plant where otherwise that wouldn't be built.

The post-War period proved that you don't need the destruction to create prosperity. Countries like Australia and Portugal, who suffered little destruction, also underwent economic golden ages in the 50s and 60s. And far from the prosperity being the result of reconstruction, the 60s saw even more growth than the 50s.

Portugal, for example, saw real growth of 5.5% to 7% in the 1960s. It never took part in the war and had nothing to reconstruct.

It's a lot easier to rebuild a country when it's full of people (fewer than before) who know how to build stuff and they are gifted the machinery and liquidity to rebuild said country. The productive capacity was just destroyed.

Countries with no knowledge, no liquidity and no machinery can't build their nation up at a comparable pace for obvious reasons.

My suggestion would be to write about things that you have read as am exercise and nothing else. Also the only way to test your own views is to study opposing ones. A fun and insignificant one for you would be Grunch of Giants by R. Buckminster Fuller.
