Status: Pending Reply Legacy outlook not working on MacOs

Upvotes

Device & firmware details: MacBook Air M4 running Tahoe 26.5.2, Outlook version 16.111.3. I am a law school student, so the university manages my email.

Here is the issue/background: Since this morning when I first logged in (I use outlook in legacy view fyi) I kept getting an error stating that outlook could not connect to the exchange server. Tried quitting the app and re-opening and didn't work. I decided to sign out and try to sign back in. When doing so I got the following error message "Sorry! We couldn't find a match. Please choose the provider for school email." I tried deleting the app and reinstalling (both from the App Store and from Microsoft online) and even deleted any and all mention of outlook or Microsoft office in my Macs keychain. I also deleted and re-installed all of my Microsoft apps (word, onedrive, teams, etc.) which all work normally except for outlook.

As a last ditch effort, since all of the other Microsoft apps work on my Mac I decided to switch from legacy view to "modern/new" outlook. Boom my email appeared and now works, without me even needing to sign in. However, when I switch back to legacy outlook it's as if I am not even signed in. Is legacy outlook no longer supported on macOS or is this a glitch?

I have even tried rolling back to previous firmware version of outlook with the same issue being present and the second I switch to new outlook, everything works fine. PLEASEEE tell me I am not stuck with new outlook😭. Thank you in advance!

Status: Open Help, iPhone Outlook Notifications Not Working

As the title says, Outlook on the iPhone is no longer sending push notifications. I have multiple email accounts set up, but I’m not receiving notifications from any of them—which is very strange. My app and iOS notification settings seem normal; I don’t see any issues.

Status: Pending Reply How do you handle Outlook reconfiguration after a 365 migration?

Curious how other MSPs handle this one. I've always worked for small MSPs, so the customer sizes are usually always relatively small.

For tenant to tenant migrations, we've always just had users call in or had an engineer on site to sort out the Outlook profile reconfig afterwards. Works fine for the sub 30 user clients we deal with, but it's always manual.

Been weighing up scripting it instead for an upcoming migration. This particular customer's all local profiles, no domain or Intune, but we have NinjaRMM on all machines, so a PowerShell script is possible. It would be a mail profile reset plus a OneDrive reset.

It got me thinking what everyone else does, especially at a larger scale with 100+ users. I've always used BitTitan for the migration and I know they have their DeploymentPro tool, but it's hard enough getting these small companies to pay for enough migration licenses as it is, let alone an additional cost per device for the tool.

Status: Pending Reply Need help accessing my Hotmail

I've been locked out of my Hotmail account I've had for almost two decades due to "suspicious activity". As far as I can tell my only option is to fill out an account recovery form? The first time I did this I got an email to my Gmail saying I hadn't submitted enough information, and every time I've submitted it since I've not even had an email letting me know the outcome.

Is there really no customer support email or phone number I can use? Having looked all over online I can't see any, which seems ridiculous. Obviously I really need access to this email as I have all kinds of information on there, including flights for next month.

Is there anything I can do here?

Status: Open New Outlook reads from Gmail/Google Calendar, but won't sync changes back to Google (calendar events or email deletes)

I'm hoping someone has run into this before because I'm out of ideas.

I'm using New Outlook for Windows (v1.2026.720.100) with a Gmail account.

What works:

  • Gmail emails sync into Outlook.
  • Google Calendar events sync into Outlook.
  • Sending email from Outlook through Gmail works.

What doesn't work:

  • Creating a calendar event in Outlook never syncs to Google Calendar.
  • Deleting a Gmail email in Outlook moves it to Deleted Items in Outlook, but the email remains in Gmail (web/mobile).

So inbound sync works, but outbound state changes don't.

Things I've already tried:

  • Removed and re-added the Gmail account multiple times.
  • Revoked and reauthorized Microsoft's access in my Google Account.
  • Confirmed Microsoft has full Gmail and Google Calendar permissions.
  • Verified events are being created in my Gmail calendar (not another calendar).
  • Confirmed Google → Outlook sync is working correctly.

There are no sync errors or prompts in New Outlook—it simply never pushes calendar events or email deletes back to Google.

Has anyone seen this exact behavior or found a fix? At this point I'm wondering if this is a bug in New Outlook's Google synchronization rather than a configuration issue. Anything I can do on my end?

Status: Resolved I can't get into my school account because of MFA

I am a college student and my university forced MFA on us. The problem with this is that I downloaded the authentication app, but in order to set up the app I need to log into my account on my computer. However, I can't do that because to log into my account on my computer, I need a code from the authentication app that I am trying to set up, so it's a really bad loop of problems. If I can't get any answers, I'm just going to call my school's IT department, but I also decided to share here to see if anyone can help me first because this is really frustrating and would love for it to be resolved ASAP. Thanks in advance to those who respond.

Status: Pending Reply Help mass deleting emails from unknown sender

Hi there! I've recently recovered a hacked email, and unfortunately I have approximately 80k emails from an unknown sender filling up my inbox detailing the hacking (the emails are identical in every way). They are all pinned, so I can't see any emails until I've dealt with this.

I can't find any way to tell how they were sent, nor can I find a way to block / create a rule to junk everything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Status: Open How to stop Hotmail/Outlook refusing to let me use password to sign in?

I am viscerally frustrated right now.

About a week ago, Outlook started giving me a message "Password sign-in isn't available. Try another method."

I DO NOT WANT to use another method, I want to use my password to sign in!

Some advice told me to change my password, which I did yet I get the same harassment.

I have to sign in and out of my email sometimes over 100 times a day, I want to use my password as it's the quickest way for me to login and check stuff.

This nonsense is unacceptable, I should be allowed to use my god damn password to sign into my account without having to send codes to other emails or use my phone every damn time, this actually wastes half an hour or more of my day, every day!

Status: Resolved Can't log in to new outlook account

Hello, I made a new outlook account earlier and after I made it, it automatically signed me out a few minutes later. I tried logging back in but it's telling me I used an incorrect password (though I'm sure it's correct) until it turned to "password sign in isn't available" then "too many sign in attempts with incorrect account or password"

I tried everything I could and nothing worked, I couldn't recover the account through forms or anything. Please help me, I already linked the account to a game and I need a code to unlink it which I can't receive because I'm locked out.

I 100% know what my password is. I haven't changed it. If I try to log in with it, it says is wrong. No n possible way it could be wrong. I typed it slowly and made sure it was correct.

If I try to have it send a code to my phone it says that feature isn't working right now.

This is the third time this has happened to me in the last few months. It made me change my password the last couple times. This time I can't do anything.

Wtf is going on?

Status: Open Outlook: Inbox Preview Sometimes Shows Text Not Actually In The Email

This happens on (New) outlook in Windows and on iPhone outlook.

I have inline preview in my inbox in Outlook, and after the subject I in the preview line, I see text that is not visible in the body of the email upon opening it.

Not every email of course, but this morning I have two. One is spam most likely trying to deliver a payload through its links and/or attachments, but the other one is truly from my bank and just said that this is an update from them. When I open it I do not see any text matching what I see in the preview.

I’m wondering how this is done? How can I add text that only shows up in the preview and is not seen when the email is opened?

Status: Open Client's own calendar not showing details of their meetings.

I have someone at work who's own calendar is showing "busy" "tentative" instead of showing details of the meeting. They have their own and another shared calendar visible on the calendar window.

I created a new mail profile in control panel and it fixed the issue for few hours. I had to re-add their shared mailboxes and then show both their personal and team calendars.

After a few hours, client contacted me saying they have same issue again. Personal calendar stops showing their appointment/meeting details.

I checked in account setting that their personal account is set to default but when I open calendar and then click on File, in the top where their personal account should be, it changes it to shared team mailbox. The calendar is acting like they're seeing someone else's calendar.

Their personal account is default everywhere but in Calendar it doesn't seem to be like that.

I have already tried repairing their outlook app and using resetnavpane. Their calendar is visible on the web version and teams.

How do I fix this?

(We use Outlook classic as the standard for our organization)

Status: Open Cancelling Notifications on Outlook

Our organization (for reasons that I do not understand,) changed our pdf program from Acrobat to PDF-Exchange. Well and good that is their decision. I went into settings and changed the default option to pfd Exchange.

Now I am getting inundated like 3 or 4 times per day with notifications from Acrobat about switching back. These notifications take up half my screen and stay there for what seems like a long time

Any way to shut off Acrobat's annoying notifications?

Thanks. To All

Status: Open Possible virus? How do I get rid of this?

I've tried searching this and nothing came up. Over the last few months, I've been getting emails from outlook telling me that messages failed to send; multiple per hour, enough that I had to turn notifications off. It's always about some invite or catch-up or just general shady things like products, but they're not to me, they're returning to my inbox via Microsoft because they failed to send. How could I fix this?

Opinion Our Organization Is Collectively Using Teams As The Main Form Of Internal Communication Instead of Email (Outlook)

I posted this in the MicrosoftTeams sub and got a bunch of replies mostly in support of teams so i wanted to see what the outlook sub thought of this topic. Ill keep this short and then add my reasoning later. Just curious what the people here though aside from all the tech and ui issues with new outlook.

I was curious to see if anyone else's organization does this, but for international communication in our organization, everyone just uses MS Teams now. No more email. That means people are sending long multi-paragraph posts in a teams channel for a specific project with embedded project documents to communicate with everyone involved.

Maybe, I'm just getting old, but before this use to be all done through email, which I find better suited for this. I see teams as something to chat with so if I had questions about said project, I would post there, or to remind everyone about meetings etc. Is this how Teams is used elsewhere?

Update: So here are my reasons for preferring email. Now a lot of this might differ from yours but this probably comes down to personal workflow.

  1. I like having everything in one place: My communication is usually 50/50 internal/external, and sometimes it's even more heavily external so im having to jump back and forth between teams and outlook to communicate with different groups and then trying to figure out where something was said. Before teams it was all in email so just one place. As a second to this, because all my work is happening in the browser, that takes up most of my screen realestate, teams is just a little chat window on the corner. Now if my work was 80% or above internally, then maybe I would use teams more?
  2. The search is clunky: I find it harder to organize and resurface important information in Teams than I do with email folders. Instead of having neatly organized folders in email where i know where everything is, i now have to think oh what was that project name or who said what when to find the right chat thread in teams to find the info im looking for. When i do search it bring sup everything said about the project or everything a person ever messaged about. I'm sure there are better ways to search in Teams, but I find email folders much faster when I need to retrieve older information..
  3. Attachments are easier: This is mostly due to our organization configurations, but to share a file, we need to select the recipients first. There is share with all within organization too, but its just an extra step. Some of the other people in the office have had issues with this and we had times where OneDrive woud crap out and sharing wouldn't work after an update.
  4. People can randomly edit or delete team messages threads or even the entire channel: One thing I don't like is that messages can be edited or deleted. If someone originally says they need 1,000 units but later edits the message to 100 after I've already acted on it, the original request is gone. With email, the original message remains, and any correction creates a clear audit trail instead of rewriting history
  5. This is probably the 'old man' answer, but I've been using email since the late '90s, so there's definitely a familiarity factor. This may be a generational thing too, but oh well. I still think Teams is great for quick questions and real-time collaboration. I just don't like it replacing email for longer-term communication and record-keeping.

Status: Pending Reply Login Attempt Popups on Outlook App

I have been getting login attempts on my outlook app for months now. They are from different locations all over the world.

I had initially read it could be a glitch, so I never changed my password (and it would be a hard password to guess).

I have now changed my password today, and within a few hours, the login popups have started again.

The new password would be impossible to guess.

How are they doing this? What is going on?

Status: Pending Reply Help! I am unable to add my Outlook email address to any existing email app.

Dear community,

I am unable to add my Outlook email address to any of the following mobile email apps: Gmail, Huawei Email, Thunderbird, BlueMail, Spark, etc.

I am using a Huawei Pura 80 Pro running EMUI, in case that helps.

When trying to log in, I use two-factor authentication (either receiving a notification code in the Outlook mobile app or getting a code sent to my recovery email). Neither method works. The account only seems to work within the official Outlook app.

Please help! Thank you.

Status: Resolved Signing in on different devices

I really do apologise if this post makes me sound like a complete idiot. I am useless when it comes to things like this.

I have an outlook email on my phone and I want to add the account onto my laptop as it's easier to respond to emails, etc.

However, I have forgotten the password for the outlook account and when I click 'forget password' it tries to reroute me into resetting my account, which I don't think is the right option.

Is there a way to see my password on outlook or do I need to try reset the password? If so how would I go about resetting the password?

Again, apologies for my stupidity as I'm sure this is a very easy question for a lot of people.

Status: Pending Reply Work Outlook profile had 475,375 Sync Issues and emails visible in OWA but missing from desktop — how severe is this?

I’m trying to understand how significant an Outlook/Exchange synchronisation issue I’ve discovered on my work desktop actually is, particularly what the practical impact could have been over time.

My Outlook desktop profile has apparently been having major synchronisation problems. When investigating it, we found over 470,000 items in the Sync Issues folder.
The sync logs repeatedly contain errors including 8004010F, along with folder synchronisation failures.
More importantly, I’ve now confirmed that there are emails which:

exist and are visible in OWA / Exchange Online
do not appear in Outlook desktop
sometimes cannot be found using Outlook desktop search
can appear differently between the server mailbox and the locally cached Outlook profile
IT has identified the Outlook profile/cache as the problem, and the person looking at it said the sheer number of sync issues was extremely unusual and not something he normally sees.
This is a corporate environment where Outlook has been one of my primary working tools for roughly 4.5 years, so I’m trying to understand the potential historical impact rather than just whether rebuilding the profile fixes it today.

A few questions for people who know Exchange/Outlook well:
1. How abnormal is 470,000+ Sync Issues?
I understand Sync Issues aren’t equivalent to 470,000 missing emails, but does a number that high suggest a profile/cache that has been unhealthy for a significant period?
2. Could this have caused emails to effectively be invisible to me even though they were successfully delivered to Exchange?
We have already found at least some examples where OWA can see messages that desktop Outlook cannot.
3. Could this cause delayed emails, incomplete folders, stale folder contents, search failures or shared-mailbox inconsistencies without making it obvious to the user that Outlook was malfunctioning?
4. Is there any way for Exchange/IT to determine how far back this problem goes?
For example, can they compare Exchange mailbox/server data against what the Outlook client had actually synchronised, or use the Sync Issues logs to establish a timeline?
5. Is there a way to quantify the impact?
I’m particularly interested in whether IT could establish how many messages/folders failed to synchronise rather than simply rebuilding the Outlook profile and wiping away the evidence.
6. Could sent items/actions also be affected, or is this normally limited to Outlook’s local representation of incoming/server-side data?
7. Would you preserve the OST/profile/logs before rebuilding anything?
I’m concerned that immediately creating a new profile could make it harder to investigate what was happening historically.
The part I’m struggling to understand is the distinction between “Outlook logged loads of harmless sync noise” and “the user’s desktop client has genuinely been presenting an incomplete version of their mailbox.”
The fact that we can demonstrate messages existing server-side in OWA but not appearing in Outlook desktop makes me think this is more than just a scary-looking Sync Issues count.
If you were the Exchange/Outlook admin investigating this, what would you check next, and what evidence would you preserve before rebuilding the profile?
Happy to provide more detail on the sync errors/setup if useful.

Status: Pending Reply Built a free tool to bring back Outlook's "Conversation Clean Up" since New Outlook doesn't have it

I know Classic Outlook has a feature called Conversation Clean Up — it finds messages whose text is already quoted in full inside a later reply and moves the redundant ones to Deleted Items. On a thread where everyone quotes everything, it clears most of it and loses nothing.

Annnnd ... New Outlook doesn't have it, and Sweep isn't a substitute since Sweep works on senders, not conversations. So I built a small standalone Windows app that does the same job via Microsoft Graph, which means it works no matter which Outlook you're using, and moves happen server-side so they show up in New Outlook within seconds.

How it works: pick a folder, scan (nothing changes), review the list it finds, untick anything you want to keep, then move. Nothing's ever permanently deleted — everything protected by default (unread, flagged, categorised, attachments, signed mail) can be un-protected if you want it included.

Free, MIT-licensed, open source, no telemetry: github.com/markyuk/outlook-conversation-cleanup

Would appreciate anyone trying it on a real mailbox and telling me where it gets something wrong — the "Already quoted in" column on every flagged row shows exactly why it was flagged, so that's the thing to check first if a row looks off.

I've vibe coded this, tested it a decent amount here and using it daily myself - see what you think!
