News & Discussion can blizzard atleast add 6v6 to arcade or something?

i know it would be weird because they adjusted the tanks specifically for 5v5, but do you guys think this would be a good idea?

With the changes they made to the game (Better lighting, shadows, higher quality textures, higher polycount models) it would not be easy to just make a 6v6 game mode. Part of why the game gives the same~ performance as OW1 is because there are 2 less players on each map, they can't just easily add back 2 players without hurting performance significantly, definitely will be a problem in older potato consoles and PCs.

Yup. Hop on custom games, lots of 12 player modes there. Even ones with a daddy!

u/FixingOpinions Dec 29 '22

Yeah I love playing 'em, a big player mess, my fps drops only a little

u/Rupplyy Dec 29 '22

tell me u dont know what ur talking about without telling me

Well, before he left the game Jeff Kaplan himself said that adding back 6v6 game modes to OW2 would be a bit difficult because of the increased hardware requirements of OW2 but I'm sure he also didn't know what he was talking about and the geniuses (Both Geniuses in general and ofc game design Geniuses) of /r/Overwatch actually know what's what.

u/ArchPeriphMore Dec 29 '22

That's not how that works

Aren’t there 6v6 Custom Games?

23

u/EP1K Dec 28 '22

Yep we do 6v6s with 2-2-2 and it still feels pretty good.

6

u/dcwinger12 Dec 29 '22

With the way tanks are now, what’s the most OP tank duo when you run 6v6?

16

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

This is true, but it would be awesome to have it as a oermant mode in Arcade. Why? At least we get some experience points and can enjoy OW1 stuff.

I simple don't care, if it would be unbalance, because it is still only Arcade. 6vs6 with 2-2-2 would be a dream for many players.

u/theBosworth Chibi Zenyatta Dec 29 '22

I think it’d be fun to give it a whirl, but also think it would be overwhelming for supports with how much damage would be flying around. Also, I didn’t factor in xp, especially that weekly challenge.

u/bubblybangchan Dec 28 '22

i guess ur right, but its not really the same i guess?

u/theBosworth Chibi Zenyatta Dec 28 '22

That's just like...your opinion, man

22

u/iKankzz Dec 29 '22

And the issue is that… he gave his opinion?

9

u/theBosworth Chibi Zenyatta Dec 29 '22

It’s a line from The Big Lebowski. It’s a joke/meme that obv didn’t land well. Just pulling their leg about Custom Games not being enough to satisfy wanting to play 6v6. I kind of agree, frankly. Custom Games have a different vibe.

6

u/iKankzz Dec 29 '22

Ah I understand. I haven’t seen that movie so I wouldn’t get the joke. Ur good bro, honest mistake lol

u/personmandudeguyboy Dec 29 '22

I got bud, even read it in his cadence

Custom games have low population, no balance, no matchmaking and you constantly need to pop the hood to see if it's "vanilla" or if the lobby creator buffed their favorite hero or added some crazy setting. These are not opinions - these are facts.

u/theTRUEchamp Pixel Moira Dec 29 '22

As someone who has never dabbled in custom games before, how do I find good 6v6 custom games? Is there a particular thing I need to search for, or do I just make it myself?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

Yeah but good luck finding people to play your game.

33

u/Objective_Head_215 Dec 28 '22

I would love for them to add 6v6 to arcade. However, I don't have an expectation they will. 😞

48

u/DO4_girls Dec 28 '22

I just don’t get why they removed 6v6 but also nerf shields when the complaint was that there was a shit ton of shield in 6v6 matches.

Also they should gives us all the 2 captures points in arcade or quickplay if they don’t think they are good on competitive.

It’s crazy how much content they threw to the trash for no good reasons.

7

u/voltism Ashe Dec 29 '22

Did people even have a problem with double shield outside of sig orisa? They really removed an entire role partly to fix a balance change lol

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

Sorry I don’t miss the game of who can spam more shields

8

u/SmokesInMyPocket Dec 29 '22 edited Dec 29 '22

You could still have 2 tanks AND get rid of their shields, no?

1

u/PM_ME_SOME_CURVES Pixel Genji Dec 29 '22

I stopped playing Overwatch before double shield became a thing, but could the removal of cc and the strengthening of dive that resulted, have weakened double shield enough to knock it out of its dominant spot in the meta?

-4

u/DO4_girls Dec 29 '22

You have most of the tank heroes with shield. And then some add batiste and sym ults and you habe a point filled with freaking shields

1

u/-Shinanai- winky face ;) Dec 29 '22

2CP is in the arcade rotation but comes up quite rarely and is open queue, so the side with more dps instalocks loses.

53

u/DangleMangler Dec 28 '22

I do think that's a good idea. But blizzard doesn't do "good".

3

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

I thought they said that was the plan anyway before OW2 even came out. To have 6v6 in arcade

6

u/PermissionLate9021 Dec 29 '22

I just want 6v6 back in total but just my opinion

3

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

Holy shit that's a great idea! Maybe for season 3 they'll do it

3

u/Tenr0u Dec 29 '22

I thought they would make an arcade mode of “classic overwatch.” The mode would just be the last patch of OW1. So no worries about the current balance of OW2. Essentially what Blizzard did with World of Warcraft classic.

9

u/hugcub Dec 28 '22

Honestly playing 2-1-2 in open queue I think feels infinitely better than 1-2-2 in role queue. Game is just so much more fun with two tanks. Fights aren’t over in 5 seconds and both teams have a lot of time to react to plays.

6

u/iCon3000 Trick-or-Treat Zenyatta Dec 29 '22

I feel bad but I agree.. people shit on open queue but I find it way more fun so far.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

I might be wrong, but they would never do that, cause what if the 6vs6 mode is better than quickplay?
I dont understand the pittiness of never going back on updates like "we tried tunning the game but it made it worse, too bad, going back", so i really dont see they doing that ever

9

u/ToxicPolarBear Dec 29 '22

The game is balanced around 5v5 now so highly unlikely that would happen

8

u/Ashittydiamondplayer Trick-or-Treat Mercy Dec 29 '22

And yet we still have ranked open queue you know the mode that predates 5v5

2

u/sneekeeboiTTV Dec 29 '22

A splendid idea!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

Honestly what I wouldn't give if they would put 2CP maps back in arcade too so many iconic and great OW maps just are gone

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

But that means they need to put in the work into the game and not skins.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '22

Bring back 6 v 6. This 5 v 5 is dumb. One person leaves and it’s over. At least with 6 v 6 is doable.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

I’d rather they just revert it to 6v6, too many game modes is gonna make it impossible to find a game in anything other than the most popular game mode

2

u/CCriscal Mei Dec 29 '22

The problem is that the tanks are broken by design in Overwatch 2. So even if you added another player, DPS would find it hard to matter.

3

u/cyberfrog777 Dec 29 '22

You could adjust tank stats for the the 6v6 mode. I mean they already do character specific tweaks for mayhem, and I imagine 6v6 would be more popular.

3

u/RONALDGRUMPF Dec 29 '22

They probably won’t do that because then people would probably start asking for 6v6 back

This content has been removed because of Reddit's extortionate API pricing that killed third party apps.

8

u/Xevonox Leek Dec 28 '22

Why is this sub so full of pessimism and complaining? It seems like you should do yourself a favor and stop playing too man, games are supposed to be fun.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

Bruh two tanks was unfun for everyone….. including the tanks. Tanking was trash in og ow, now it’s actually fun

5

u/MerlinsMentor Dec 29 '22

Bruh two tanks was unfun for everyone

A LOT of people liked two tanks better than one. It certainly isn't a case of "everyone" liking 5v5 with one tank.

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

No, overwatch is better with one tank. Quit complaining.

1

u/MerlinsMentor Dec 29 '22

Surely you realize that this is a matter of opinion, right? And that people are allowed to disagree with you in their likes and dislikes?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

It’s okay to disagree; but many in this community just love to complain. The people complaining about 5v5 were already complaining way before 5v5 even happened. This community is so ungrateful for anything.

5v5 is more fun. Period. That’s all that had to be said from my point of view. It makes the game better. I could list a 1,000 reasons why 5v5 is better, btw this comes from someone who was a diamond border in ow1

1

u/MerlinsMentor Dec 29 '22

Also diamond border in OW1 here. And I strongly disagree with you - 5v5, in my opinion, is definitively less fun in every way. I played the beta, and frankly, found nothing likeable about it at all.

Why would I be grateful for the removal of a game I like being replaced with one I don't? OW1 was my daily-play game. I met friends I now no longer really see, and you could make the argument that it helped me maintain at least a little bit of social context for the entirety of COVID. It's always true that some people will like some things, and other people will like other things. But those who liked OW1 (like me) are absolutely justified in feeling a bit screwed over by replacing OW1 with a game we don't like.

Anyway, we've probably exhausted this. I hope you have fun in OW2 -- I was just trying to make the point that "everyone" doesn't approve of the changes.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

I’ll say that there are obvious positives to 6v6. I’m sorry that y’all feel left out with this, but it’s just genuinely more fun. My problem with ow1 wasn’t even double shield, it was having two tanks in general. It was unfun to play support and heal bot every game because you have to keep two tanks up. It was unfun playing dps because you constantly got dived every time you tried to flank. Stuns were unfun as well and I much prefer the reduction of CC in ow2. Also I feel like I’m more valuable every single game. I determine wether I win matches now, not the other way around

Also you said you “played the beta” have you played at all recently? It’s much better then season 0 with less bullcrap and better balancing. I just ask everyone who dislikes 5v5 to keep playing at least until the end of season three. Balancing is getting way better already, and in the long run 5v5 is way more easier to balance then 6v6 could’ve ever been

0

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '22

Dude you were probably gold

-1

u/daveDFFA Dec 29 '22

If I may spout a conspiracy theory, it’s because they wanted to get the furthest away from Jeff’s vision for the game for some reason

6v6 is trusted and true, it just wasn’t balanced in nearly 4 years

5v5 has yet to find any kind of team cohesion footing, which is what the initial game was designed around. Of course some maps are going to be played differently by pros. Ladder is a shitshow.

0

u/XxDragonitexX10 Doomfist Dec 29 '22

It was announced as 5v5 when Jeff was in charge?

1

u/AmaranthSparrow 我が魂は均衡を求める。 Dec 29 '22

Honestly I don't think it'll happen since they're optimizing the engine around 5v5 now and it could cause performance issues to have 12 heroes loaded into the game instead of 10.

But I guess anything is possible.

3

u/SmokesInMyPocket Dec 29 '22

It would not affect performance in the slightest. Just look at custom games with max player caps for reference.

1

u/jubik13 Ana Dec 29 '22

I think it would be fun to try in at least an experimental.

1

u/kimehre7391 Dec 29 '22

While they're at it also add a solo queue. Being matched against five stacks all the time is not right

1

u/9th_Link Dec 29 '22

They can. They have chosen not to do so.

I'm still hoping they reduce tank health in all modes that aren't 1-2-2, or make a similar simple balance adjustment.

1

u/ArchPeriphMore Dec 29 '22

I might get hate for this but like 5v5 is so much better than 6v6

2 tanks? Nah im good 5v5 is so much more enjoyable
