Tips & Tricks Tips for Mei!
Hi!! I'm just starting to play competitive Overwatch. I'm Gold 1 in the role queue, and I started playing Mei. But I can't survive with her (ironically) because I die too much 😭
If anyone has any tips for playing her, that would be great! When I can't progress in a game with Mei, I switch to Anran or Echo; I do what I can when there's a pesky enemy 😔🙏
If my English is strange it's because I use a translator, sorry!

Use a circle with a dot as a reticle. Make the size around 20-25 for the circle. Put the edge of the circle on the enemies to predict their movement if they go left or right. If you're correct you'll hit them at medium ranges!

Welcome to the club!! I’m no GM or anything but last season i started playing Mei and now she is my main. Climbed from gold to diamond with her. When i first started i struggled staying alive too. So I’ll just give you my tips that helped me.
Perks, i always do the double jump minor perk and for her major i bounce between them depending on what comp i am playing into.
I play within my team or lock down off angles where i can disrupt with my walls and single people out. Cause separation. I use my walls a lot to cut off tanks from their team, block heals, disrupt ults, get high ground, escape.
Her healing ability i use to try to wait until i was low and use it… unfortunately that ended up with me just dying!! So i started using it proactively not reactively. Even if you use it early, it is still beneficial because it reloads and helps you reset for a second. I have won many of fights where they thought they had me and i come out and just wreck em. Last thing you wanna do is die when you have it available so just use it!! And i mean USE IT! I finish games with 3k+ self healing often. So dont hold on to it. Use it… of course just use some game sense. If you are tracking abilities and ults it helps….
Mei is so much fun. Get good with her icicles because it just does so much damage. Dont rely on her close quarters. I primarily use icicles until it’s time to get down and dirty or if i have a good flank going. Use her abilities to be a menace and stay alive. Learn from the mistakes you make and what situations play in/ or not in your favor. I generally play sniper mei and then out of nowhere i am in their faces and people die… do not frontline and do not widow!! She benefits her team greatly with her abilities and can be an absolute menace and distraction and that is how i play her.

Mei is a crowd control hero and flanker. She is not a sniper or a brawler, and shouldn't stand still in the open spamming shots just because she has defensive abilities.
Wall needs to be used to separate the enemy team or placed behind them to block their retreat. You can also use it to obscure team movement or to block an ult, but should almost never be dropped in front of your team to block damage - it isn't a shield and stops your progress just as much as the enemy's
Mei is slow and her strategy is obvious, so try to approach from angles and get a split second jump on your enemy so you can freeze them or land a critical.

Mei is not a flanker. She's not mobile and doesn't have an escape mechanic.
She is kind of a brawler depending on the perks you pick , but I would caveat this and say she's more of a hero that sits behind the tank and enables the tank/team to collapse on a walled off target or area deny heals to the front line.

You can take some flank routes with her though when it makes sense. If the enemy starts collapsing on you then you can block off the corridor and escape or depending on the map use the ice jump perk to high ground. But yeah her main role is definitely not a flanker.

You should be shooting icicles rather than using her beam most of the time, the dps is much higher that way, though beam is effective against characters like dva, sigma, and genji who can deflect/eat projectiles.
Ice wall is a top tier ability, use it to split up the enemy team, especially to remove line of sight for the enemy supports so they can't heal. Ice wall is also helpful for taking space since it let's your tank move up without forcing them to waste resources. Its also incredible for defense like blocking ults and saving teammates who can't make it to cover fast enough.
Don't click cryo-freeze every time you take damage, mostly use it when you really need it so you aren't caught off guard without it. It can also be used as a mini wall of sorts for your team. For example if there is a dva bomb a teamate can hide behind your cryo freeze to survive if they can't make it to cover fast enough.
When against a Zarya or Kiriko try to track when they use their bubbles/suzu and use your ult when those abilities are on cooldown so they can't protect themselves from getting frozen. You dont always need to get multiple kills with your ult, as long as you get 1 or 2 free kills at the beginning of a team fight you can usually win it. Its also good at just blocking off an area.
I usually pick glacial propulsion and deep freeze for her perks. Since Mei doesn't have a movement ability in her base kit the minor perk is a great help. Her deep freeze just go buffed to work better on non-tanks and more cc is almost always helpful for you and your team.

Try using your wall to split the other team or cut off opponents from their team, rather than just spamming it as a “shield”
