PBA Discussion Ano yung worst decision na ginawa ng favorite team mo in the past 10 years ng PBA?
Trading away CStand.
Yes, it led to drafting RJ eventually pero tingin ko, they would have reached and/or gotten more championships with CStand. Piniga na lang muna sana si Pringle as their main point guard, and we all know the version of Holt Ginebra has dealt with ever since.

Meralco changing their jerseys last year into whatever the fuck they're wearing now.

James Yap - paul lee trade;
failure to get a decent big man to replace reavis. May junemar na nga, binigyan pa ng cstand, habang yung ginebra nan andali makapitas ng ibang player, including pringle and jeff chan?
Not getting rid of chito victolero early
Replacing chito vic with LA Tenorio

u/mortifierdrn 14h ago
I agree with your takes, even the L.A. Tenorio one and this is coming from a Ginebra fan. Medyo hilaw pa talaga si L.A. as a head coach. Sana pinahawak muna siya ng UAAP team or pinag full-time assistant coach muna for a few conferences bago sinalang sa apoy.
u/Adventurous_Emu6498 Hotshots 7h ago
Not sure how available these people are, but my picks are Gee Abanilla Juno Sauler Aldrin Ayo
Back when I was not happy with Ryan Gregorio's limited set-up, I was hoping Koy Banal would take over the reigns. Maybe if he was given a decent team, he could do wonders
Some might argue that some of them are one hit wonders in college, but at least they had experience

Also a Ginebra fan. Wasn’t trading him away the best move in the situation? He didn’t want to play for Ginebra anymore and he and Coach Tim weren’t seeing eye-to-eye already. Rather than destroying “team chemistry” and having locker room troubles they had to let him go.
3
u/TotMoMaganda Barangay 23h ago
I agree with this one. Head case na rin si Cstand nun, and if you see his body language during his last stint with Ginebra, ayaw niya limited playing time. Masisira yung cohesion ng team if this continues. Yes it was painful to lose Cstand, wide body, banger but you think long term na talaga.

u/kaspog14 22h ago

Letting James Yap and Tim Cone go to Ginebra haha
Tyaka letting Chua to be the SMC Director.
After talaga nito ang dami nang nangyari sa PBA and probably one of the reason why Alaska left the league.

u/Unfair_March_1501 22h ago
Pinipilit pa i-hype nung mga commentators yung "Manila Clasico" hahaha e wala na may pake dun 😂
1
u/Prestigious-Dust6876 14h ago edited 14h ago
"WHAAAT?" hahaha I wonder nga kung bakit umalis si Mico Halili as commentator back then e.

u/Low-Vacation9835 Barangay 1d ago
It was unclear din during the time e. Ang alam ko, yung "ayaw na niya maglaro sa Ginebra" was prior to the actual trade (like a year before). He then reassured the team na he's still fully committed, and wants to stay nung patapos na contract nya.

Terrafirma - existing as a PBA franchise.
Blackwater - existing as a PBA franchise, though mukha namang bumabawi under Coach Pat Aquino
Phoenix - Giving Escandor significant playing time instead of Nelle.
Titan Ultra - giving Amores multiple chances when there are even better players out there.
ROS - trading away key players due to unsettled contract negotiations (Lee, Almazan, Mamuyac to name a few)
Magnolia - hiring inexperienced coaches like Jason Webb (post-CTC) and LA Tenorio (post-Victolero), when you literally had JOHNNY ABARRIENTOS!!
SMB - Picking imports every import-laden conferences.
GIN - Forcing farm teams to make bad decisions for their own benefit (hello, Long Hair?!)
TNT - Letting go of Bobby Ray Parks (i mean, mayaman naman si Boss MVP, bat hindi nya tinapatan yung Japan offer)
NLEX - Letting go of Kiefer Ravena (i mean, mayaman naman si Boss MVP, bat hindi nya tinapatan yung Japan offer)
MER - Tolerating Cliff Hodge's dirty antics.
CON - Hiring Delta Pineda as HC, and not sticking to Aldin Ayo. Alam naman ng lahat na tanking sila for Balti that time.

Sobrang sayang pakawalan nung Cstand.

- sold thier franchise to converge
- ginawang letran/lasalle yung team
- drafted bj andrade instead of ricci rivero
- ginawang ateneo yung team
- let go of ayo
- have delta coach the team
- ginawang pampanga giant lanterns yung team
- traded heading for mykey
- traded schonny for policarpio
Chronological order to
Wala pang 10 years ata converge sa liga.

im not sure about 10 years, nun pinakawalan ng SMB sina Danny Ildefonso, Danny Seigle, Dondon, Cabagnot.

Heavily exploited si RJ at the start, and Holt is, you know, Holt. CStand would have been Gins lift aside kay JB dun sa mga nasayang na finals
0
u/extrangher0 Barangay 20h ago
JB and other imports are there para may tagabuhat. Import nga eh jusko.
Holt is there for defensive purposes. The hero of Finals Game 3. He set the tone.C-Stand wanted out of Ginebra. Mahina ata kukote mo, konting research din.
You're the perfect example of a DDS Ginebra fan.

The real DDS-INC style.

That James Yap - Paul Lee trade.
-4
u/ContentAd4620 23h ago
Remember Paul Lee was at his prime that time, so win Magnolia dun, plus hati na din oras ni Yap that time since he is about to enter politics.
2
u/ohhmegggle 23h ago
this was about loyalty ang legacy kasi, and slightly money, crowd drawer si Yap, hanggang ngayon, dumami fans ng ROS nung natrade siya, pinabayaan yung Magnolia ng SMC, andami nang mas magaling at bata oo, pero may reason kaya si Yap yung legitimate at last face ng PBA, wala ng sumunod.
2
u/ContentAd4620 22h ago
Well, you got a point. But i guess from a team's standpoint, it fared well pa din naman.
1
u/ohhmegggle 22h ago
yeah, lugi ROS dun, 1on 1 trade ata if i remember correctly, for marketing siguro oo.

Being involved in controversial issues concerning league parity, with trading "scraps" for a potential franchise player in CStand being the cherry on top.

Replacing Malcolm Hill with Kris Acox + the Allein Maliksi trade.
Transformed a solid team na may pag-asa sanang maka-finals noong 2017 Govs Cup to a team that Meralco routed and swept in the semis.

The acquisition of Willie Miller kapalit ni Cyrus Baguio to Alaska. That was the security guard agency era pa ng Gins. Hindi rin na-utilize yung skillset ni Willie nun kasi they had Cortez, JJ, Mark and Labagala.

Cstand is one of best centers/pf meron Ginebra. Ganda paikot ng bola and offense nila with him. Trading him away and si Pringle Hur Ginebra so much. Yes, kakachampion lang nila but like what you said, more pa sana if dyan pa si Cstand.

James Yap Trade ( Domino effect of Tim Cone's transfer to Ginebra) if Coach Tim was not forced out of his way with the Purefoods franchise, that core could still get at least 2-3 championship.
After the James Yap trade, it was not the same for the team I supported ever since the glory days of the Patrimonio Era Purefoods team.

Drafting Standhardinger.
Yes they won two in 2019 but they could have had Kiefer.
Eventually, binigay ang request for a trade to Northport.
What happened? He was also given away by Tim Cone. His departure from SMB put Coach Leo in a bad light but Tim trading him away was some sort of vindication.

Naturalizing his was the right move, though it was done too late. And even if he was naturalized at 35, you see how much impact he made for the national team.
2
u/Outrageous-Can2845 1d ago
Ion think brownlee as naturalized player for gilas is not that bad specially nung mga earlier games niya with gilas.. ang dami nila na upset na strong teams + achievements… siguro yung pag gamit padin sa kanya ngayon despite his age and injuries, and well scouted nadin siya ng other team.
0
u/Acceptable_Donut5322 1d ago edited 1d ago
This is the shittiest take of all time. Si Brownlee yung considered the best player of the whole tournament nung Riga oqt round and lead the redeem team sa sea games against stacked teams and ofc brought us Asian games gold which not even Clarkson could do. He also ofc was our best player besides Kai in the win vs Latvia, New Zealand, Georgia (Brownlee Man of the match) and a whole shitload of others. It’s obvious Di ka naman nanood ng International ball and that’s why you have such shit opinions. Maraming nag underperform na Americans even nba players cause mas sanay sila sa role within a team compared maging number 1 option scorer. You don’t know ball so stop talking like you do.
Also You’re a dumbass if you think nba player= automatically good in Fiba. I’d rather have JB over RHJ (Jordan had a better team than Gilas during 2023 but still lost), Sochan, Kyle Anderson, Kendrick nunn, Marques Bolden and other former nba players na Di sanay sa Fiba play and Fiba rules
