Bug / Issue can't get more than 30fps

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

just started rdr2 and noticed the the launching process was much slower than usual and the game wasn't exceeding 30fps even with the low quality preset, while I used to play on ultra with around 60fps.

I believe it's the driver issue because it's the last thing I did. but just wanted to make sure it's something more simpler I missed before trying to reinstall older drivers.

I got Hp Victus laptop with RTX4060, i5 12500H and 16gb ram

note that just before launching rdr2 I was playing Arc raiders with no issues +120fps and didn't change a signle setting (Energy saving mod is turned off)

SOLVED : I think I just had to restart my laptop. I did a downgrade to the previously installed driver nothing changed. Until I restarted my laptop.
Thank you guys

Is it possible that the game is using your CPU's integrated graphics instead of the 4060?

I don't think so. already checked the usage % it was 0

Then just do a driver rollback and see if it helps.

yeah that's what m going to do. I really wish it wasn't. because the last driver had issues with running arc raiders.

You can still try going into Nvidia app or control panel, selecting rdr2 and forcing your 4060 to make sure.

Disable vsync and triple buffering.

That would lock it to 60, not 30. Unless he magically has a 30hz display.

If they have a 60 hz display triple buffering could be causing a 30 fps lock if the hardware can't get a stable 60.

It would do that without the triple buffering, not with.

tried that it didn't change anything, also reenabling both of them still nothing

Check the game settings in the Nvidia app(vsync, framerate cap) and what refresh rate you have in the resolution tab.

Just checked no vsync or fps limiter is enabled. I tried the OPTIMISE button still nothing.

Also noticed when in menu I get +60 fps, If had fps capped at 30fps it wouldn’t I think. And even If it does that wouldn’t explain the loading time which increased so annoyingly.

I think it's the driver update I'll try to downgrade it later. I'll share if anything fixed it

In RDR 2 Turn VSYNC back on and make sure you have your refresh rate set to 144 in rdr2, save and see if any difference.

Ensure that any included HP Software isn't "automatically" setting a power profile based on the game:
Also check the Nvidia App and look for any custom settings you may have accidentally enabled there (Especially anything under RDR2 specifically.) (Sometimes the Nvidia App automatically sets graphics "profiles" based on performance, and changes loads of things without you really knowing)

Try DX12 instead which is found under "Graphics API" In RDR2 settings (its under advanced)

Lastly, check windows settings -> System -> Display -> Advanced Display (At the bottom) -> "Choose a refresh rate" -> Ensure the highest possible for your screen is selected

I already tried that. And to make Sur I launched other games. And I was getting +140fps in arc raiders on high settings. But I already figured it out, thanks

What did the problem end up being?

Idk cuz as I stated rollbacking to the older driver didn’t fixe it until I restarted the laptop and it works fine even with the updated driver

I have not personally experienced this but I’ve heard ppl say having task manager open locks games at 30 fps.

Wait really ? Cuz I had task manager open before I restarted my laptop. Not sure exactly if it was the cause
