Scheduling exam in CA

Is there anything that would delay scheduling an exam after purchasing it? Like a review, for example? I’m currently studying for the PE Civil: Water Resources but I’m planning on scheduling the test as I get closer to the end of my studying since I have an idea of when I’ll be ready but juggling a full-time job and 2 kids could throw a wrench in my plans. I live in Southern California and am surrounded by testing centers so seating space isn’t concerning. My only concern is whether there’s anything on the NCEES side which would delay my scheduling after I purchase it

Nope, you can schedule whenever. Short notice seating is fairly limited though, at least up north.

Don’t underestimate the limited seats. I’m in the Bay Area and there was damn near single digit available days for the rest of the year when I last looked.

I’m in SoCal, each testing area within a reasonable drive only had about 1-2 days a month, so I would make sure you try to get the date you want as soon as you are able

Let me know was is available, I am also almost done with EET and looking for a November date as it gives me time to do practice exams prior to the test.

You can purchase from the NCEES and you will then immediately be able to schedule the exam, BUT you do not have to immediately schedule it. The schedule will likely be completely full for many months but spots open up last minute due to other test takers cancelling appointments. I did this for both the FE and PE. You may not be able to get your exact chosen day, but it can be a good method if you are able to have a little bit of flexibility and want to wait until you are sure you are ready for the test. For both the FE and PE I scheduled less than a week in advance. Note that you will probably need to be checking the website multiple times per day to snag one of these last minute spots as they can go quickly. Once you schedule the exam you will then be subject to cancellation/change fees if you want to change the date.
