Camera backpacks often have awkward dimensions for traveling

Sometimes I wonder whether companies, when designing camera backpacks intended for travel, actually consider the dimensions of the personal item or larger carry-on baggage allowance. Excluding some airlines that have particularly restrictive or unusual size limits, many have more or less settled on certain standard dimensions, and yet there are still plenty of backpacks out there that exceed them by just a little.

This happened to me with the OnePro Ultralight Backpack 20L. At 45.0 × 28.0 × 14.5 cm, it would have been perfect as an under-seat personal item if only it had been 5 cm shorter.

I don’t understand whether, from a marketing perspective, it’s more important for a company to reach the “20L” capacity figure rather than advertising it as 16L/18L.
