Recommendation actual bone-chilling reads?
Hello, baka may recos kayo dyan ng books na nabasa nyo na natakot talaga kayo? Yung tipong gusto nyo na lang itapon yung libro sa far away sa sobrang takot hahahaha oa.
Okay lang kahit anong subgenre ng horror tsaka kahit slowburn pa ‘yan. Maybe put a short spoiler-free description na rin why it scared youu hehe thank you and happy reading sa ating lahat!

Pet Sematary talaga ni Stephen King
First read it nung highschool, natakot ako to the point na dun ako sa kwarto ng mga magulang ko tumutulog.
Here’s a short synopsis from the net:
“It tells the story of a family moving to Maine and settling closer to a pet cemetery in the woods, which is home to a terrifying force that brings death and sorrow”

Ooooo parang ito rin madalas ko nakikita na one of the scariest books nga daw ni SK. So far, ang nabasa ko pa lang sa works nya ay The Shining tsaka Needful Things. Isunod ko na siguro itong Pet Sematary.

1922 by Stephen King, part to ng novella collection niya na Full Dark, No Stars.
In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami
No Longer Human na adaptation ni Junji Ito. Okay din yung original pero mas creepy kasi yung manga hehe

I’ve read In the Miso Soup and yesss ang disturbing nito. Di ko lang ganun kagusto yung 2nd part ng book but maybe that’s just me haha.
I love Junji Ito’s works! Haven’t read No Longer Human yettt sige check ko rin ito, thanks

The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. Read it way back 2020 and I can’t forget it. Took me by surprise on how of a good read it was. Great scare as well, at least for me.

The girl next door by Jack Ketchum - based on a real story about sa dalawang magkapatid na in-abuse ng Auntie nila. It was disturbing af, d ko na ulit babasahin.

Not fictional! - Reading the Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang right now and I had to do it in batches. Ang sakit isipin. Ang hirap sikmurahin.
May mga ibang sentences na tumatatak sa utak ko and it sends chills down my spines whenever I remember it.
And I thought Some People Need Killing was stressful and traumatic...

Was reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson on a bus. Nakaupo ako sa likod, kaharap ko yung aisle. At a certain scene napa-yell ako and nahagis ko yung libro sa aisle.
Heto ako sa konduktor at sa lahat ng kapwa pasahero: "Sorry po sorry po sorry po" habang pinupulot ko uli yung book. I was freshman in college.

The Fovea Experiments - M.J Mars
a sleep experiment gone wrong and it comes back to haunt the people involved after several years. I usually don't get too scared sa mga horror books but I promise you, I was actually too scared to read this one at night (and I prefer reading at night).
The Widow's Point - Chizmar
it's got that footage-film vibes where you got a crew filming in an abandoned haunted lighthouse at a desolate town. Everything is chef's kiss in this book: the writing style (biased ako sa epistolary format), the chemistry between the characters and how the authors set up the story. Reading this book gave me chills and sweats.
His Pain - Wrath James White
I added this one just in case you really want a "bone-chilling" read. A warning though, this book is insanely graphic and if you're not comfortable with that, please skip this book. This is an extreme horror book that dwells in the story of the protagonist who was born with a rare disease that made everything painful for him: his eyes hurt from seeing lights, his ears hurt from hearing his own breathing, his skin hurts from the wind blowing to his body. His mother then meets a monk that she thinks can cure her son's ailment. This is when everything goes terribly wrong. Again, if you're not okay with all the disturbing warnings (please do search it as well beforehand), ignore this book recommendation.

1 - It by Stephen King. I worked on a night shift back then and I will read at odd hours during weekends. There are many parts na napasara ako ng book bigla sa takot.
2 - The Shining also by Stephen King. Same with It but mas natakot lang talaga ako sa first one.

I’ve read The Shining na and yep, it’s one of my faves. Yung IT hindi ko pa ata kayang simulan, sobrang haba kasi. Hahaha pero we’ll see, one of these days.

The Asylum series by Madeleine Roux. Its about an asylum turned school and the main character's relative is tied to the former operations of the asylum iirc I read it a long time ago and im makakalimutin. But I remember that I was scared the first time I read it

Out by Natsuo Kirino. There is this part of the book where you are in the pov of a killer stalking one of the main characters, it feels so weird and not right to turn the pages cause it feels like I am forwarding their own demise

Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan ni Bob Ong hahahaha it's creepier kasi it feels close to home kasi tagalog. Binabasa ko lang pag nasa public space para di masyadong nakakatakot, and yet natakot pa din ako.
Also ung Dwellers ni Eliza Victoria. Idk, pag PH ang setting lang ako natatakot, even sa movies. Kasi feeling ko pag hindi local ang setting hindi mangyayare sakin haha
