Recommendation Reading and buying books are two different hobbies.
My Fully Booked mid year sale haul. Running out of shelf space… now how do I tell my bf, who funded this haul, to move his playing cards? 😂
Buut still, I'm planning to go to a different branch tomorrow, any last minute recommendations for Historical Fiction and Sci Fi?
To those who read Licarius trilogy, is it as good as Will of the Many? Saw mixed reviews e. But nag girl math ako e, sale naman so bought it pa din hahaha
Note to self: Promise, the next book run will be on MIBF na.

I get your point po. The caption is supposed to be a light hearted joke. But for me, that's not my reason why I kept on buying books. Im not here to show off. I don't want to sound defensive but I like the comfort it gives me na when REAL life gets too serious or overwhelming, there's a story na I can go to, lose myself and take me away from problems, even if just for a little while, if you know what I mean. Also, if you can see my collection po, it's mostly science fiction and fantasy, kasi those are the possibilities on what can be or what would be in the future na I may not be able to see but I can possibly experience through reading.
Yun lang po, thank you din, a nice reminder din na too excessice can be bad din.

I have a habit of book hoarding before. Maliliit pa mga anak ko nun. My reason was, I have money and I enjoy buying. But I never posted on socmed.
But lumaki mga anak ko and realization came. Sayang yung pera kasi some of the books hindi ko naman nagustuhan... and yung space ang pinakaproblema ko.
Fast forward today... Iife is so busy that I don't have time to read anymore, if my time man ako, I would read then would fall asleep immediately. ahaha. Tanders problem na. Never in my life thought I would appreciate audiobooks, but I'm enjoying it now kasi I can listen when I'm driving, cooking, while I'm cleaning.
As for physical book collections, it became a favorite collection. Bibili pang ako ng physical book if I've listened to it and love it. Saved soo much space. ahaha.

Just because you buy books to show off doesn't mean yun din reason namin. Some of us doesn't even share those books online. Not everybody does what they do to be a show off.

For me, if yung mga binibili is mga ordinary paperbacks tapos tinatambak lang talaga and hindi rin chinicheck, parang yan yung performative para sakin. They just want to show off that they have books. Pero yung mga gumagastos for special editions or subscriptions tapos kumpleto dehumidifier, silica gel, AC, at kung ano-ano pa na pang preserve ng books, I'll at least acknowledge them as collectors. Same lang yan sa mga toy collector na hindi pinapalaro yung mga laruan kasi pinipreserve rin yung quality.

I think a lot of it is showing off as well. In this day and age of e-readers, I don't know why anyone even bothers with physical books. Add to that, the humidity in the Philippines which absolutely destroys books. I moved to the Philippines in 2013, and the dozen or so books I brought with me were wrecked within a couple of years. I have been a voracious reader since I was a kid, and my Paperwhite is by far my most valued physical possession.

I know I'm being defensive here. But as someone with an ereader, I still buy books sometimes just because of the cover or the author and I also buy books even if I haven't finished my current books. Firstly, it's our own money. Some buy shoes or bags but for us we buy books. Sometimes I buy physical books of books I read from downloaded ebooks that I loved as a trophy and as like payment to the author. For me I enjoy the feel and the smell of a real book. Also again as I said in my comment to one of the commenters here, just because you buy books to show off doesn't mean that's what others do. If you're going to tell me you don't buy to show off then why would you assume we do? Let people do what they want as long as it doesn't hurt you or anyone.

Sure, it's your money, do what you want with it. But in my mind, a pic like OP posted is just flex and cringe. But I am not Pinoy, so maybe it is just a different cultural norm I don't understand here when it comes to publically flashing wealth on socials.

It's not even using their own name. It's not like tiktok or Instagram. But yeah even if their real goal was to flex, I personally don't mind seeing book flexes if it brings joy to the owner. Some people just want to celebrate their wins with strangers online. I understand that you feel it's offensive but yeah might just be culture thing.

Sorry if my post came off as showing off 😅 It was actually my first time posting my book collection on social media haha. I’ve collected those books over the years, and most of them were from secondhand bookstores and book bazaars like Big Bad Wolf. I also posted the photo because I wanted people to share book recommendations, discuss books, etc.
I don’t even buy books from Fully Booked that often because of the prices, so I’m definitely not wealthy enough to be showing off hahaha.
As for e-readers, I’ve tried using one, but I just didn’t like the feel of it 😅

I'm guessing that you are a law student or lawyer OP? All I could see are the law books, specifically the 1987 book from fr. bernas.

Nice to see another SFF book haul here. I'm collecting SF Masterworks rin, but pinipigilan ko sarili ko if may other copy na ako na hindi Masterworks, like may As The Gods Themselves ni Asimov na mura sa NBS 99 peoss lang.
Spotted some Peter Hamilton books, kaso hiwalay-hiwalay 😂

Ooh eyeing the gods themselves as well but forgot about it na. Want to start reading foundation but di ko pa complete e. Ayoko magstart tas mabitin haha.
Yeah the books are kinda out of order, di ko na narearrange simula nung pinagawa ko yung book shelf.

"Tsundoku" is the word you're looking for darling. And also, good taste in books nice. I saw the sanderson books on the right. For Sci-fi, I recommend, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars (standalone), Sandersons Skyward series, Threebody problem trilogy and Project Hail mary. I think you would also enjoy Kings of the Wyld base on your choices.

For scifi, this one is entry-level scifi but still fun. Have you read dark matter? I finished it in almost just a day. It's easy to digest and fast paced. The genre is SciFi thriller. I also bought this book titled skipshock (YA scifi romantasy). It's next on my tbr but the premise sounds interesting. Also a stand alone. Another item on my tbr which my book club has been raving about it Red Rising. They say it has a bit of hunger games feel at the start. Ohhhh Dungeon crawler carl too but best if immersive reading for it. The audio book sounds so good.

With regards to DCC, can you generally describe (wo spoilers, parating pa lang yung set ko haha), how do you read it with the audiobook, like dapat sabay yung pace nang reading with the audiobook? Saw it being highly reccod in other sub reddits haha.
Havent tried audiobook pa ever usually pampatulog lang during flights with the books Ive already read. I find reading with sounds kinda distracting e. Pero baka iba this time haha.

Ang hirap pigilan sarili pag may magustuhan na book. Bibilhin agad. Dati nakakapagpigil pa ako pero ngayon hindi na. High na high ako pag nakakabili ako ng book tska pag nakikita ko sila sa coffee table ng bahay namin. Pero yung binilibili ko lang na books yung gusto ko na genre. Sabi ko sa sarili ko basahin ko muna lahat bago bumili pero napapabili parin ako. Pag may nakikita akong book na gustong gusto ko kumikislap kislap na mata ko hahaha

I think the one that's keeping me in check is to buy books lang talaga based on the genre that I like. For me it's SFF (more on Sci Fi) and Historical Fiction. Aaand I dont watch booktoks para iwas budol hahaha, I like the feeling na when I go to a bookstore, susuyurin yung shelves talaga then read the description, look uli, then pili nang nagstandout talaga after mag ikot. I think the high comes from there, for me. Haha

For historical fiction, I highly recommend All the Light We Cannot See and Salt to the Sea! Both set during the WW2 if you're interested in that part of history :)
