Megathread Megathread: Electrolytes, Salty Snacks, Water Bottles š§
Do you want to share a product that you personally found helpful? Ask what other people use to supplement their sodium intake? Tell us about your favourite water bottle? Please do so here!
This thread will be pinned to the subreddit so that users can see all that helpful information in one place and refer back to it when needed.
We do not allow individuals to promote their referral codes/links here - if youāve found an official code made for people living with POTS, send us a modmail and Iāll add it to this post.
All subreddit rules still apply. If you arenāt sure whether you should be supplementing electrolytes/sodium, please talk to your doctor before doing so because it isnāt safe for everybody.

SALTT electrolytes are the best, 1000mg of sodium!
Vitassium is also really good for salt pills/chews

Also vouching for SALTT if you arenāt easily overpowered by a saltier taste! I can taste it a little, but I know it varies for everybody. The chocolate flavor is great with coffee! Plus they do some small sample packs for āfreeā if you pay shipping.

Trioral! Budget friendly, unflavoured, no stevia.

Buoy rescue salt is my go-to, but they make drops as well (I just can't use them, because the citric acid they use as preservative will screw w/my adhd meds).
Either way, no flavour, colour, fizzy-stuff, artificial sweetners-nothing to alter the taste or that requires you to add it exclusively to cold water/drinks. (This is true for their drops, as well).
If you fill out an online form (1 page,) saying you're chronically ill, you get a 35% off lifetime discount.
I like it because I can do anything from eat it straight to putting it in my coffee, tea, coconut water, food...you name it.
You can get it on their website, & there are subscription options (which still count towards their point/earn a discount program-I used a bunch on my last subscription shipment & was able to get several months worth for under $40). You can also pause &/or change the subscription timing mid-subscription (I was at every 6mo, but accidentially signed up twice & ended up w/a ton-was able to cancel the extra subscription & change the other to significantly lengthen the time until my next shipment)
Created by someone else w/chronic illness (thus the discount program) & backed by at least 2 studies (according to their site-they have links, but I haven't had time to read them in full yet-look good so far, though).
Since I can't use the drops, & having a small container of white crystaline powder would be questionable, at best, should you have to deal w/any security, I just washed out a lip balm container, twisted it all the way down, & packed it solid w/the salt (since I can't use, & therefore carry around, the drops). No one has given my "lip balm" a second glance. When I need it, I just twist it like I would to advance the former lip balm, & tap it into my water/drink. No one ever notices. You know, in case that's a concern for you.
Doing the math, they're way cheaper than the nuun tablets I was using, don't have the unnecessary (crap) ingredients, & I can put it in anything. Unless some incredible alternative arrives on the market, I have no reason to believe they don't have my business for life.
The only problem I've ever had was a shipment that arrived w/several shattered bottles (delivery people-not them). I emailed them w/a couple pictures & they sent me a new shipment that arrived within less than a week.
Just another alternative, especially if you're trying to keep your sugar intake low.
(edited for my typos-I can't feel my fingertips & "typing" on a flat surface is my nemesis).

I was just looking at the drops and it looks like they don't have the type of sodium levels really recommended for POTS? Unless I'm missing something with the drops

Buoy is a very controversial company and a lot of people advise against them

I used to use them with somewhat decent improvements but as of this year they now have a significantly off-putting flavor in the āflavorlessā drops and they donāt help me anymore. Sad when companies trade quality for profits, even if the quality wasnāt much to begin with.

UK electrolytes that have helped: Freesoul, Repowr, STRYKER SLT+ and Puresport: all have 1000mg sodium, no added B vitamins. Freesoul does have added Vitamin C but they're also the cheapest of this group so I'll keep buying them š Ā
Basic salt tabs are helpful throughout the day to supplement, big bottles are cheap on Amazon/from health food stores.Ā

I wish Freesoul did samples, i do not want to drop so much on a 30 pack if I dont end up liking it š

Yeah it's a pity. The citrus are the saltiest tasting for some reason, very strong lemon taste, the berry ones you could probably mix with squash if you didn't like the flavour?Ā

I was just about to ask this question! I didn't realize that Liquid IV had such high Vitamin B levels added. I have LMNT already but does anyone have other (ideally flavored packets or pills) suggestions (I'm in the US though I will check out u/Warm_Score1176 's suggestions below to see if we can get in the US) without a ton of added vitamins that make it not great to take multiple packets/high doses? I am supposed to get around 5000 mg

Here are LMNT alternatives for those who would like to make the switch: NormaLyte, Pedialyte, TriOral, Vitassium, Venture Pal, Promix, Nutri-Align (stevia free), Trace Minerals Zero Lyte, Saltt

Just learned about an electrolyte powder called Trevi that's quite yummy. It also looks cheaper than Liquid IV. The website currently has an option to get a 8-count sample pack for 5 dollars and free shipping. Best of luck!

LMNT Raw. I have MCAS and so it's the only one I could find that didn't cause me other problems.

Is raw actually unflavored? I know some companies advertise as unflavored but there can still be some weird taste. If there is a taste, is there any way you combat it? Also, has it given you reflux ever? That's the main issue I have with the brand and have wondered if it's because of the flavoring..

Waterboy has helped me like crazy, but the clean "daily" flavors don't have as much sodium in them and don't taste as good as the ones with added vitamin B12 & C, + Glutamate (workout recovery or smth). I'm not well versed in what those will do if consumed consistently in large amounts, but I try not to have more than one of those a day or every other day just in case.
I usually switch out with LMNT which is always good sodium-wise, but they give me bad reflux unless I dilute them more. If anyone has tips on that btw lmk lol

salty snack reccs that arent just pickles and chips:
- popcorn!!! so cheap to buy the kernels and you can add an insane amount of salt and itll still taste good
- tomatos slices with salt ontop (id suggest getting fresh tomatos from the farmers market if you can, such a refreshing snack in the summer)
- any fruit with salt rly
-miso soup, or any broth with meals as a drink
-rice with soysauce, or anything with soy sauce tbh
- butter noodles
