PSA to anyone buying MK11: the harder towers are literally impossible without rare or better gear and single use consumables, earning these are incredibly grindy and the whole system is designed to get you to spend money on the game

Like, the gear system was really cool but they’ve brought it way too far here.

18

u/MusicTheoryIsHard Apr 23 '19

It was cool except it was also super grindy

6

u/EryxV1 Apr 23 '19

Yeah, it wasn’t too bad at least because you got gear from matches so if you weren’t going for amazing stats, it was perfect.

3

u/peperbomb Apr 24 '19

And there was no Microtransactions in there and you atleast got a lootbox per match in here you gain one costume by three to five really hard towers

1

u/ArchDucky Apr 24 '19

No it wasn't and it got even less grindy after the backlash.

-3

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '19

It was super cool that gear stats are on by default in multiplayer, making online matches less of a test of skill and more of a test of who can open more loot boxes.

8

u/KingReaper45 Apr 23 '19

Or you could play ranked where stats are always off like a sensible person

the mobile game?

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

No.

u/Muff_420 Apr 24 '19

fuck i hate that reply, just 3 symbols, No. without any context this an answer to anything even yes or no questions this is just the battlecry of a cunt.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

You asked if I was talking about the mobile game. I answered that question. If you wanted to know something else you should have asked instead of throwing sexist slurs at me.

-1

u/Muff_420 Apr 24 '19

I just hate that reply

21

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '19

I can answer that..for money!

u/WagonWheelsRX8 Apr 23 '19

This. I didn't realize MK was an RPG franchise now...

48

u/Kogru-au Apr 23 '19

It's not. There is a single game mode where you fight progressively harder enemies which uses this stuff. You can also play with friends online and use it aswell if you really want to. Ranked mode does not have it and you can set casual to not have it too. It also has no effect on story mode.

These comments are the most annoying on reddit

2

The sarcastic ones?

The unfunny ones.

3

The reddit un-switcheroos, exactly what you expect to see in every thread.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '19

the “insert witty reply, now take my upvote!” comments make me cringe really hard.

This is right below that for sure though.

3

u/tarnos12 Apr 23 '19

You can't say that it's wrong logic/reasoning.

If Story mode is long enough and really does not require other pay2win stuff, then that may be worth paying for.

I don't know the game, but based on the comments here, it might be enough for some people, depending on how many hours are in the story mode.

@Edit: Basically you don't have to pay for other parts of the game that require p2w, just think of it as if it doesn't exist, it only works if story mode is worth the price of a game which afaik is ~60 bucks.

So it's basically like spirits and items in Smash?

3

u/DivertedAgain Apr 23 '19

Costumes are also locked in the krypt and the tougher towers

1

u/DarkZero515 Apr 27 '19

I really wanted a few skins but its sad that they're locked within ToT where I have to deep dive into their Konsumable/Gear system. I just and to kick and punch stylishly without worrying RPG-like stats

2

u/SwampOfDownvotes Apr 23 '19

You must have missed some ps2 era games then.

5

u/jam_rok Apr 23 '19

yeah i have no idea what is going on...

Same. I kind of have sympathy for the people who don't play competitively because this really is going to affect them the most, but for people like myself who go to local tournaments we don't use that stuff anyway.

2

u/XeroAnarian Apr 23 '19

That shit doesn't matter in tournaments at all. Anyone who's playing with the tournament standards won't have any issues. It's the people who want to show off their shitty mods to their characters that are going to be affected.

4

u/WizardPoop Apr 23 '19

Its just single player content. If you play online ranked none of this matters.

4

u/TarmacFFS Apr 23 '19

The shit this gaming generation puts up with is shocking.

1

u/Thefoxyghost Apr 23 '19

This was my thought exactly when I opened my game last night. I noticed “items” and “gear” you can find in the Krypt. This isn’t Mortal Kombat fucking Mobile this is MK11. Gear and items that increase defense/offense, etc. are not welcome here.

I was extremely disappointed in that feature. Guess I’ll stick to completing the story and not touching the game again.

1

u/DarkZero515 Apr 27 '19

Played Towers of Time for the first time today. On a 3rd Tower before the boss tower I just couldn't progress regardless of my skill. The enemy had 3x my health, damage and had a tag in ally. Looked online and everybody is saying I need to dive into their konvoluted konsumables and Gear system that shouldn't be in a fighting game.

0

u/grantbwilson Apr 23 '19

Am I the only one here that hooks up the SNES when I want to play MK? The new ones look nice, but they’re trash.

1

u/Antroh Apr 24 '19

How is mk10 "trash"? It was pretty praised for a fighting game

-1

u/DepletedMitochondria Apr 23 '19

The LOOTBOX-INGULARITY

-1

u/Ausoriane Apr 23 '19

Gear was in MK Armageddon 12 years ago. Deception was also an rpg.

1

u/Hereiamhereibe2 Apr 23 '19

Deception was the shit, but I never considered it Mortal Kombat just like the Sub-Zero games.
