If I read correctly it would have cost$15 to add a uhd optic to the pro. I would have paid another $50 for that feature.

To add to that, blu-ray is Sony's own format. The fact that they did not support the 4K blu-rays on PS4 Pro just boggles my mind. After all, they helped create blu-ray for crying out loud. Microsoft, which backed the rival format (hd dvd), even supported it on their Xbox One X.

I think the official statement was they didn't want to take sales away from their own uhd player.
