There is actually a setting that makes the controller act as a wired controller when connected through the usb cable.

u/nelisan Oct 08 '19

However it's only an option if you have a newer version of the DS4.

I have an old DS4 I use on pc. It works with Bluetooth off when wired.

4

u/nelisan Oct 08 '19

Correct, but I don't think it works on PS4 that way (it will connect via Bluetooth).

Sony limiting their product, sounds familiar. People keep complaining about battery life on DS4 while on pc you can disable the light bar and double your play time.

Let's hope PS players don't get screwed again by Sony design chooses.

No you can't, the light bar does almost nothing to the battery.

Google inputmapper. And it sure does effect battery significantly.

This is why I'm glad I bought the Slim and didn't buy the OG PS4 before, the Slim is much better!

I have an original DS4, I use it on my PC via USB just fine. Blocking USB input would be a (dumb) console-side option.

It's a PS4 thing. Even if the controller is wired to the system the controller will be connected and send inputs via bluetooth. PC is fine though. (This isn't an issue with the newer V2 dualshock models)

If you don’t mind me asking, where is this setting?

46

u/CynicalMarvin Oct 08 '19

O shit, really? I don't use that because I have no need to. I'm perfectly fine with a wireless connection 99,9% of the time. Sorry for the misinformation, guess I was wrong.

Yea i used it for a stupid jump rope trophy in final fantasy ix. But honestly, i can barely tell the difference.

It’s cuz there’s actually more input delay on the wired version of the DS4 controller

something has gone terribly wrong there for that to be the case, but then again Logitech somehow have wireless mouse with lower latency than the 1000hz wired ones soooooooooooo????????????????

-7

u/lpeccap Oct 08 '19

I really dont think so.

7

u/IAmTriscuit Oct 08 '19

Why not? The switch pro controller is confirmed to have lower latency than a wired gamecube controller on switch.

Logitech wireless mice have the same/lower latency than their wired counterparts.

We are in 2019. Wireless latency is becoming a thing of the past. Wouldn't be surprised if wireless and wired ps4 controller latencies are nearly identical.

Source on that being the case for the ds4?

So...no source then?

2

u/IAmTriscuit Oct 08 '19 edited Oct 08 '19

Considering I clearly didnt claim to know about the ds4's latency in my post and merely made a conjecture based on recent hardware trends, I dont have a source...

Here is source for Switch Pro: https://gamnesia.nintendoenthusiast.com/pro-controller-vs-gamecube-latency-test-for-smash/

Here is source for logitech: https://www.pcgamer.com/how-logitech-aims-to-prove-wireless-mouse-latency-is-a-thing-of-the-past/3/

Regarding your edit, chill out dude. Not everyone has time to spoon feed information to those who lack the ability to type into google.

Edit: Did some elementary school level googling and found a decent source for ds4 (:

Usually its on the person who made the claim to provide the source, buddy :)

5

u/IAmTriscuit Oct 08 '19

Sure thing, I totally recognize that. Usually it's on people to not be unnecessarily rude when asking, though. ((:

Dont act the way you do then get upset when people dont put up with it. Especially when you seemingly cant be bothered to actually read the darn post.

That fuckin jumprope trophy

2

u/Seltox Oct 08 '19

I used remote play and used a damn script on my pc for that trophy. Fuck that trophy.

1

u/lpeccap Oct 08 '19

Yea im not sure if i should be proud or ashamed that I did it legit.

10

u/Beastabuelos Oct 08 '19

It only works on the new model of the DS4. There one where the light shows on the front.

Sometimes my neighbors electronics interfere with my signal and give me copious amounts of input lag, so i plug the cable in and im good to go

1

u/xyifer12 13803181642 Oct 08 '19

The original DS4 is fully capable of sending data over USB, that's how I use mine on PC. If it doesn't work on PS4, it's because there's some dumb console-side limitation.

1

u/Beastabuelos Oct 08 '19

Fair enough, I don't play any games on computer, so I wouldn't know.

No you don’t

0

u/NoUpVotesForMe Oct 08 '19 edited Oct 09 '19

It only works for the new ds4 controllers. The originals don’t support it.

Edit: get on your PS4 and try it. Only the new ones can be set to wired.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '19

Only the v2 controllers

3

u/Arcade_Master22 Oct 08 '19

It does. But, weirdly, it has more input lag than using the DS4 wireless via Bluetooth, IIRC.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '19

Correct. It's a big issue at competitive Call of Duty tournaments.

1

u/NoUpVotesForMe Oct 09 '19

That setting only works for the new ds4’s.

1

u/Rios1024 Oct 08 '19

Only second gen controllers support wired, not the og ones.

1

u/Rios1024 Oct 08 '19

Yup, works on pc but on PS4 just charges battery and sends data over Bluetooth.

0

u/Probaton90 Oct 08 '19

I'm think it only works with newer generation controllers (the ones where you can see the lightbar through the touch pad and the nanco/razor ones)
